There's Something About Gary
Some of this blog has spoilers in it and I’ve tried to identify for you which books the blog may have spoilers for. So you’ve been forewarned! Read at your own risk!
SPOILERS FOR DARK BLOOD/DARK PROMISES
Gary Jansen, the American scientist who we meet in Dark Magic, eventually becomes Gary Daratrazanoff when he is converted in Dark Blood. So, Gary has been with the series for a long time. And he’s been through a lot, earning the loyalty of the Carpathians, so he’s become a much-loved character with readers. We find out he is Human/Jaguar and we think his lifemate will be Gabrielle, but when the ritual binding words don’t work between them they know their feelings as humans has changed and as Carpathians they can only be friends.
Gary’s story has progressed so much and a lot of what’s happened to him has endeared him to readers and often surprised readers. The fact he was converted, that he’s now a Daratrazanoff, his human love interest was NOT his lifemate, he kept the memories of the Daratrazanoff line and is a great healer, he lost his ability to see in color all at once and with Dark Legacy we find out another surprise about Gary that may have readers discussing this character for a while.
SLIGHT SPOILERS FOR DARK LEGACY
So much has changed for the Carpathians. We find out in Dark Legacy that there’s more to lifemates than people may have realized, those some readers did catch it, and this new information may cause an epiphany for some readers/Gary supporters.
We also find that Tariq is Mikhail’s chosen leader in the United States, and as Tariq builds his own team and fights his own battles, he is in need of a Second in Command. And a great healer. Someone preferably from the Daratrazanoff line. Yes, you guessed it, Gary is going to be Tariq’s second just like Gregori is Mikhail’s.
Gary’s life has been turned upside down in just about every book in which he appears. But, if you think Dark Promises was surprising, just wait until Dark Legacy.

Thank you so much for this blog. Like everyone else, I love the Carpathians and was searching for news about Gary when I saw this. After reading all the comments, your responses and the 'spoilers', all of my questions have been answered. I own all of your Carpathian and 'game' books and have pre-ordered the new ones. Keep them coming.

Loved Gary. Would love to see Luiz, Jasmine--and her baby, Riley & Dax, again...one day.

I was disappointed with Dark Sentinal. It wasn’t as compelling and interesting as the other Dark Series. I count the months between Christine’s books because she has spoiled me for any other writer. This been said I always want to draw the book out and keep it was ending but I can’t stop reading. It’s always one more chapter and I look up and I have read it all. So even though Dark Sentinal was dry missing something I still love it because it was written by my favorite author. Where is Teagan, Gabby, Trixie and their warriors? I thought they were headed for the US.

All this speculation about Gary’s Lifemate, has anyone thought that Emeline just got back from Paris and is pregnant?
Will the Carpathians in America get a Guardian of All. A Lycan Carpathian mix. It would appear they need some advantage because the Malanov's have slivers of Xaiver in them. I realize they triumph in the end but the last Malanov brother keeps getting away.
I am glad more Carpatheians have come to San Diego. There has been speculation re Aidan, but what about Lucien, Dylan, Julian and Darius? They are all stateside. I get we need new characters to keep the series building but the other can give added back up. Lucien is an ancient as well so it is unlikely the ancients would have a problem with him. Maybe it is time for Dark Celebration 2 to link the communities together.
I would love a Dark Celebration 2. Glad the Carpathians seemed to have left San Antonio.
What will happen to gary is he going to turn vampire of find his lifemate
And poor Danny, he'll be converted...some time. I still wonder when --and if--Paul and Ginny will be converted into Carpathians, as well.

I don't think that Tamara is Gary's lifemate. She was born before he was converted. His lifemate would have been born after that, whouldn't she? So, Gary's lifemate would be younger than Tamara.
(I believe it was) In Dark Storm I felt like Jubal and Jasmine were on the verge of a relationship; I always felt the references to Ivory and Syndi favoring each other was going to lead someplace and Josef and Paul haven't made any appearances lately (I feel like I already know who Josef is meant to be with). I said all of that to say We could use a reunion book...something to bring a few of our favs back with atleast short stories on whats happening with them...

That's not to say she may not in the future, but right now, it's not happening. And if it did, I kind of want it to take place in the U.S. Stronghold for everyone in the Americas, and not Christmas. It would feel like she is repeating what happened in Dark Celebration. But if it's in the Americas, she could do any holiday she wanted!

I absolutely LOVE The Ghostwalker series..there is v currently 14 books in this series with the 15th one coming out in march which i am very anxiously awaiting. The sea haven series is amazing as well which starts with the drake sisters then the sisters of the heart series..then leads into a new series torpedo ink..i have every book she has written..and have had to rebuy a few when they get a little worn out..alicia

Very much so. So far, the 1st & the 3rd, are my favorites in the Shadow series. Can hardly wait for the 4th.
Would love to read more about the Guardians for All, as well as the Dragonseeker Clan.

Christine Feehan, you are awesome, I have loved every book, from every series, I get , and read them all. I have read each one several times. I look forward to each book that comes out.
I am a Dark series addict lol...Ive loved Gary from his very first introduction in Dark Magic I knew he would become very important to Gregory even then and I love his progression in the series even the turmoil that he went threw with Gabrielle it was great seeing another dynamic to the lifemate relationship. I can wait for his book I want Ms. Feehan to get it right lol. In the meantime though Id luv to see the triplets find lifemates or a lifemate I dont know why but I feel like their story would be a great oppurtunity for Ms. Feehan to introduce a little more than just the regular one on one lifemate dynamic not to mention one hell of a love story. One Carpathian is a panty wetter imagine having three omg lol.

Since Christine Feehan has already said Gary is getting his own book, she just doesn't know when, we have that to look forward to. I'm hoping it is soon, but that is a large time jump and Christine Feehan has already said that she doesn't want to do another large jump like that for a good long while. Having to jump forward for Dark Magic sped up Gregori and Savannah's joining, but what happened between then? Who found mates and who became vampire? Right now, let's just wait and hope that the last of the Malinov Brothers get what's coming to them. I'm wanting Ivory to show up and finish putting TRAITOR on Sergey's head!
When I read that Gary's LM was an infant in France my first thought was that it would be Francesca & Gabriel's baby. Not much has been said about it since Skylar found out that Francesca was pregnant at the end of Dark Wolf. But I'm unsure of it now since Gary is now considered a Daratrazanoff and I don't know if Francesca's baby has been born yet. Also, I have it in my head that the baby was to be a girl but can't recall if that was mentioned or just wishful thinking on my part, lol. But it's going to be a long wait to find out I'm afraid.
Gabriel and Francesca's daughter is Tamara. I don't remember another baby for them since then. Of course, their adopted daughter (and so very much loved by parents and Uncle Lucian) is Skyler, Dimitri's lifemate.
Actually, Francesca became pregnant again, making her one of the few women to have children close together. I think we learned about that in either Dark Wolf or Dark Blood. So, it is possible that Francesca and Gabriel's second child is Gary's lifemate, but we won't know until Gary's book is written.
You never know. Gary does know, however. If his lifemate isn't Francesca's second child, then Lucian and Gabriel will at least be watching and taking down vampires as they arrive in Paris. I see him and Genevieve traveling to Paris together, as she did say she felt she need to go back once the threats to them were taken care of. So while the pre-established women can't be his (or Luiz's) lifemate, this means that they are at least infants right now. Luiz's lifemate might not even be born yet, but Christine Feehan has said she hasn't thought about Luiz in forever, so who knows how the newest De La Cruz is doing right now.
Ok so i was thinking Gary's lifemate is a baby and in paris, is it possible that Gabriels and Francesca's baby Temara is Gary's lifemate? She is a baby and in paris? That would be intresting to see if that is who it was. Would that make them too close a family now that Gary is a brother to Gabriel?

And their second child I believe is male, but don't quote me on that one. I'm rereading the books to see what info I got wrong. But his lifemate is not Tamara, I do know that.
I am a sucker for a "geeky" character so instantly fell in love with Gary. I loved how sweet, nerdy but determined he was. So when he was converted and lost all of that, I was brokenhearted about losing one of my favorite characters. Cause he does seem like a new characters since he lost all of his characteristics the moment he converted. I am coming to enjoy this new character but it took a bit. I think it was a great way to show how male Carpathians lose themselves as the darkness grows but his was so sudden that it was a bit of a shock. I imagine the same will start happening with Josef as he appears since he is getting older and that will sadden me as he is also a great character as he is but I think that one may be more gradual as he ages. Looking forward to more books in this series.!

Josef seems to be a fun rascal. Be interesting to keep track of this young Carpathian.
I think it would feel like destiny and a huge turn of events if the baby he fights so hard to save turns out to be Gary's life mate. Sure it means he finds her really earlybut it seems he suffers more than most seeing that he deals with all the memories of his ancestors. Little Carismas life saved by him forher to grow and one day save his in return.

He just can't find her right now because of how young she is. However, he is suffering and he is keeping his mind off of that by doing his duty as Tariq's second. I love Gary, and each time he appeared in the series added to that. I cannot wait for his book and I know Christine has said that she doesn't want to do such a huge leap in time, but I hope we get his soon. For now, we have to get Sergey and Barnabas out of the way. That would still leave Vadim, but who knows what is really going on there at this point. And the last Dark Mage is hiding out, so it may be a while before we see him. As weird as it might seem, I feel like we are facing this war with them and it will be nice if we can get back to normal, when the vampires don't travel in groups, evil mages aren't stalking everyone, and there is long periods of peace again. Just one or two books is all I'm asking for. Then she can bring in some new bad a** to try and destroy everything. LOL

Also, Gary is now of the Daratrazanoff blood/family line so technically he is now related to them and any Daratrazanoff child that is born. So their daughters can't be his lifemate.
Further more, Francesca only just told Skyler in Dark Wolf (Book 25) that she is pregnant and it is also the same book that Gary is badly wounded and converted into a Carpathian in Dark Blood (Book 26). It is mentioned in Dark Promises (Book 29) only that his lifemate is in France. It can mean anything. France is a big country.
“Gary wasn't born Carpathian, so he had no lifemate until he was reborn as a Carpathian. At the moment he became Carpathian, a lifemate was born to him. She didn't exist for human Gary. Gary's lifemate is NOT Gabriel and Francesca's daughter. Looks like that's an old post, but since it came up again I wanted to make sure everyone knows that. Those of you who pointed out how that can't be so are right. Plus...I asked Christine. ;-)
