two minute pitch
This is the pitch I gave before a book conference last year.
What if you could inspire?
What if the creative, the gifted few
Could see something unique about your physical appearance
That would give them that boost,
And they could do incredible things?
The writer could craft that award winning novel
The researcher could forge that medical breakthrough,
And cure some terrible disease,
All because of you, in your role?
But what if the day would come,
And it would come
When that writer, or that researcher
Would tell you that they no longer saw the value of their work,
Or even the value of their own life,
And they wanted to end it all
There and then.
And you, in your role, would have to help
In this Jewish rewrite
Of the myth
Of the muse.
Vi Gold and Lea Marvin are two ladies with this terrible charge
And Vi hates it, and simply wants to have a normal life.
Lea is more casual, she’s been doing it for a long, long time
And on occasion will derive pleasure from killing.
This is not a story about a God from Hallmark greetings,
Or from Shanah Tovah cards
And neither is it about angels who escort you to heaven.
Rather, this is about harsh deals, unanswered questions,
But also about finding happiness in this life.
The story, and the trilogy, is called Dark Muse,
My name is Philip Mann
And I thank you for listening.
