Wild Carders Rule

It's awards season, and some of my Wild Cards writers have been covering themselves with glory.

David D. Levine, creator of the Cartoonist and the Recycler, just won SFWA's ANdre Norton Award for best YA novel, for ARABELLA OF MARS.

Carrie Vaughn, creator of Curveball and Earth Witch and Wild Fox, took the Colorado Book Award for AMARYLLIS.

And one of our newest Wild Carders, Emma Newman (wait till you meet her character), made the shortlist for the UK's prestigious Arthur C. Clarke Award, for her novel AFTER ATLAS.

Congratulations, all. Well deserved.

Oh, and speaking of Carrie, check out her post on the Wild Cards blog site, a tribute to her favorite WC character (that she did not create herself), Doctor Tachyon.

Carlos I believe it'll be before the next season of the TV series comes out.

Carlos I think there will only be 7 books in all, Dance with Dragons being the 5th. Either George RR Martin is writing the last two (6th and 7th) simultaneously or we'll have to wait some six more years for the final volume.

... But things like writing and creative work in general can't really be hurried. And this author has lots of outstanding projects. It's the price of well deserved success.

In some editions, like the Portuguese here, they "break" each of the original books in two. That makes ten volumes so far. As I read in the (American) original, it's five volumes so far.

We're all waiting for the sixth volume in the original, named "The Winds of Winter" and it's supposed to be a seventh and final volume, still unnamed.

As for the TV series, last year aired the sixth season, which starts beyond the fifth (published) volume. And as for the TV series, the eight season is indeed expected to be the last.

I agree with you that his writing is very good. I plan on revisiting the prequels soon and hope he'll write more of them. As well as other stories set in the same (7 kingdoms) universe, some of them probably to be adapted to TV as well.

And then I'll try his other work, such as "A Song for Lya" reputed to be one of his best early stories:

So there's plenty of reading material to keep us occupied :-)
