SPRING BLOG
Hello, I hope my blog finds you well.
To begin with Spring, one of the book I read recently which is a story about: can books, movies and other cultural expressions help everyone in his proper life? This is the subject of “ The Meryl Streep Movie Club” by Mia Marcha
Isabel's husband is unfaithful. June promised her son that she would find his father he never knew about. Kat does not know if she should marry her best friend and Lolly, the mother of Kat makes them an unexpected revelation. The three young women settle into Lolly's hostel and take part in the weekly movie night, and this time Meryl Streep's films are screened. The girls and their mother are discussing the films, talk about their concerns, their way of seeing life and the answers that Meryl Streep brings to certain questions through her films.
The novel is dealing with current situations and asks the question: to what extent fiction (novel, cinema, theater) allows us to identify with the characters and situations experienced by the figures in order not only to exteriorize emotions, but also to rethink our own lives, to draw resources from them, to take an action or to adopt new attitudes. The answer seems to be yes if the film is taken as an a opportunity for discussions and make easier to speak about things we feel.
The book is very pleasant to read (apart from some lengths, too much details for my "taste") even if you are not specially a fan of Meryl Streep, but it is obviously more appealing if you saw some films of this actress.
