First Time on the First- It's a LOVEly Time of the Year

February really came fast for me. I've been slacking off on my resolutions a little hard at work trying to fulfill many of my January resolutions and discovered something.
If I want a new, better habit to form, I can't get all drastic about it. I've learned to taper into big changes. Like, let's take eating right. I can do this and do it well if I can also have moments of eating entirely wrong (yep, still had some Christmas chocolate calling my name and whew boy, stressed is Rootbeer spelled forward).

But seriously, I've made strides in the right direction and I'm content because I've made progress and actually still have my list of goals in sight and on my mind. I've hit more goals than not and I'll take that as a win.

Speaking of working on goals, one of my goals was connecting more with folks here on GoodReads in a positive way. One of those ways is my Sofa Chats.

I want to continue on with these so if you don't mind chatting with me here on the blog in the form of a series of casual interview questions, drop me a comment or send me a message to sign up or inquire further.

And another of my goals was reading challenges. I tried the COYER (Clean Off Your E-Reader) Challenge (clever name by the by) for the first time last summer and did the winter challenge and I really made a dent in my older TBR pile books. There is the challenge of course, but also a fun and lively Facebook Group with daily activities that are optional, but oh so encouraging and fun. The three bloggers, Stormi, Berls, and Michelle, who host this challenge do an abso-fab job. So I am giving them a shout out, but also plugging it shamelessly to you all to join. :)

February really is a LOVEly month for me in that I get to celebrate my folks' anniversary, several family birthdays, and it was also the month years ago that I went on a blind date and later married the charmer who is still a charmer (he enables my reading and writing habits).

J. W. Garrett Oh Sophia, what a delightful post and I simply love the picture at the end. Is that not the cutest picture ever?

I love his art, too. I spotted these when looking up pictures I might use for banners on the Group sight. Thanks, Jeanne!

Don Jacobson You offer such a gentle and positive outlook here. Just the sort of fresh air(e) I needed after a difficult January. Now if I could just shake this cold! Working myself on the eating better...or at least the eating out less...and holding the wine until a special dinner! I think the sofa chat is a superb idea. And echoing JW...love the art.

Sophia How kind, Don!

I do like to look for the good out there and try not to let the Winter blues get to me.

Yes, steady steps with the eating better is a great way to see some success. At least for folks like me. Cheering you on to working in better eating habits, too.

The artist is Edward Blair Leighton and he did several romanticized pieces like this one. They are great when you're going for the 'swoony' feel good mood. :)

Oh hey, let me know if you want to be one of my Sofa Chat victims this year. Haha!

J. W. Garrett Oh Don, you are in for it now... we get to learn all your secrets. Buahaha... wait, that's Sophia's line. Oops, sorry.

Abigail Bok Great post, Sophia! You are really getting the tricks of clever, engaging blog writing DOWN. Makes me all the more eager to read your next published fiction! I learn a lot just by watching how you carry yourself in the Goodreads space.

Sophia I certainly am trying, Abigail. :) I do want a bit of personality to extend from my posts and be something that people are glad to have read since everyone's time is so precious.

I would be pleased to have your opinion of the latest work when it comes out in Christina's anthology. She tells me I'm improving. :))))

Abigail Bok Been meaning to offer: if the completion of one of your writing projects comes at a time when I'm stalled on my own (happens a fair amount, though on an unpredictable schedule), I'd be happy to do a beta read for you. I don't do it often, but occasionally, and for a writer like yourself it would be a pleasure! I'm expecting this summer to be fairly quiet . . .

message 9: by Sophia (new)

Sophia Oh my stars! That offer means so much because I know that even with slower moments you are still rather occupied. Don't be surprised if I take you up on it once I get through the tangle of my prologue in my WIP right now. :)

Mary Sophia, what a delightful post!!! I loved the picture!!
To think that many moons ago you met a guy, presumably set up by your friends, and you went on to marry him!!! Wow!!!!

New Year Resolutions are so difficult to keep, especially ehen the nights are so cold and dreary!!! ( That's my excuse, and I'm sticking to it!).
So I'm delighted to hear that you're making progress and despite the 'resolutions',you are still your cheerful, friendly and positive self!!

So glad you enjoyed my post. I was feeling blue-ish about not getting as far as I wanted with New Year goals so wanted to cheer myself up and maybe others, too. :) Love your excuse. Haha!

Yes, his artwork is heartwarming and full of romance. I think they'd make great book covers.
