The dictionary definition of a republic:"a state in which supreme power is held by the people and their elected representatives, and which has an elected or nominated president rather than a monarch."
The U.S. does not qualify because the people don't have supreme power and their so-called representatives do not represent them or their interests. Nor do the people elect the president, who is selected and nominated by plutocratic elites. Bernie Sanders was the people's choice in the last election. The Donald was the most unpopular presidential candidate in U.S. history. The people did not nominate or elect Trump.
The expression "democracy" doesn t show up in the Declaration of Independence nor in the Constitution. Some of the Founding Fathers were very critical on the term democracy. Rule of law is better than the rule of a majority. As to Trump, at least 62 million voted for him.
Right. The Founding Fathers believed that government should protect the rich from the poor. The term "democracy" is just propaganda. Yes, 61 million misguided souls voted for Trump, in subservience to the plutocratic media, but millions more voted against him. Jill Stein's recount was flawed because it did not count provisional ballots.
