Text for Tired Eyes:

You come to me, asking the point of all this,
asking the reason for your struggle, for
all the effort expended, for the empty hands
to show for it.  You ask me why, why they
run when you’re willing to stay, you ask me
if it’s a trait shared, down to our DNA,
by those that share my gender.  You, forlorn and
worn thin, wonder why you give, and give,
if nothing is ever given back.  You come to me,
heart bent and aching, and wonder why.
I’ve no words other than the honest ones I believe in,
I’ve no help to offer other than this:
Give, because your heart demands it,
open the door, locked now with light pouring
from the gap at the floor, to your soul
and let them wander in.  Let them stay,
let them run, and allow yourself the indignity
of falling in love.  All this will add up, it’s already
added up, in ways you cannot imagine,
in a million ways that will never rely on
the love, the affection, the trust that’s returned to you.
I know little, beyond this:  All you deserve,
after all you’ve endured,
is making its way
back to you.
