I am retired and it's awesome, Saturday every day.
KU certainly has a lot of readers! Many more than I expected (don't know what I was thinking) and many more than I gave up by having to drop other publishers to put the books on KU.
Laury

I went on another vacation (can you take a vacay from being retired?) and didn't get much done for a couple of weeks.
So, I haven't quite finished it and it still needs a lot of editing. Probably late July.
Hope you guys like it when it's done.
Laury D

It's done except for editing. Probably about 10 days.
I had fun writing it.
Hope you like it too.
Laury

"Sisters (a Hyllis family story #6)"
is available for pre-order on Amazon.
For those of you who read on Kindle Unlimited, it'll be up there a week or so later so the people who like to get books on other platforms can get it through Smashwords.com before it becomes exclusive to Amazon.
I hope you like it!

I think your stories (Donsaii series) just seem a bit more real to me. I really like how you are right on the cutting edge of current science. I don't think it will be many more years before we do have self driving cars and limited AI's for everyone. I also wouldn't be surprised to see quantum entangled communications become a reality. I certainly hope that the quantum entangled ports don't stay in science fiction.
I hope it won't take a few hundred years, as I would like to see it in my lifetime, but I think we will eventually find a way around that pesky speed of light limitation and get to the stars. I think our progress in biology will eventually give us a solution to our telomere issues, and we will need a way around that light speed limit in order to get out of this system before we collapse from population pressures. Hopefully, we will not be a scourge on the galaxy, such as your aliens in the Vaz series.
I also love that you get your books out relatively quick without letting the quality of your writing suffer. It is extremely rare to see a typo or grammatical error in your works.
I've really enjoyed the TeeCee's, so would love to see an eventual meeting between them and Earthlings. (Not one were we end up exploiting or doing something evil to them) Don't know how you'd get the science to sound plausible, but if Donsaii found a way to cross universal barriers with her ports, I'm sure that she and Vaz could do great things together. El and Tiona could figure out if the thrusters are really interacting with Dark Matter.
Those are just a couple of things that I've dreamed up and wouldn't be disappointed to see in your stories. However, even if those things never happen, I'll still be avidly reading anything you publish. You have a great talent for telling tales that really hook someone into the story. I'm sure you would have been an excellent bard in prehistoric times.
Keep up the great work!

Thanks!
Feels great to be included in David Weber's category.
I loved his early Honor stories.

I love long books if they are really good. The longer, the better if I could read without waiting long for more. But if I need to reread every time a new book comes out simply because its been so long, and then after its done, I know it's gonna be a few years b4 the next book. I was happy when i could read 13 Wheel of Time books b4 having to wait for the final installment, but if its a decade or more of waiting, it gets old.

Filming starts in the fall.

Kevin, those two were my fave authors for about 20 years or so. I immediately bought their items in hardcover as soon as they were published. I finally stopped when hardcovers hit $35. I started reading both of them in the early 90's. I'd buy the Jordan books every October, until he got sick and took a few years between each one. The last few Weber books have been disappointing. I've read some of Sanderson's stuff, and I thought Warbreaker was extremely well done. I am also looking forward to seeing how the tv show turns out. I just hope it doesn't get cancelled before the full story is told.
I've been getting my fantasy fix from Garon Whited lately. A bit of a mixture of scifi and fantasy. Check out the first book in his Nightlord series, Sunset.
Laury, I prefer a long story that I can really immerse myself in. That is what I really like about your writing, even though they are shorter than my usual reads. I really get engrossed in them. I've been really impressed with your follow through on your "what if" propositions. What if tiny wormholes were possible? What if there was a field that suppressed static charge? What if telekinesis was real? What if I could psychically suppress your realization that I was right in front of you? In each story, you have consistently and believably explored the possibilities that each of those questions open up. Once I've suspended my disbelief for that one thing, your stories hang together and your characters are engaging. I care about what happens to them. (I really felt bad for Tarc when Lizeth rejected him.) I am always disappointed when I get to the end of the book. You've left me hungry for more in just about every story you've written. I will admit that I didn't really like the transmuter's daughter at first. I thought she was an idiot for going into the mine alone. I'm not really sure if there's any more you could do in that storyline, but I am looking forward to more Proton Field, Blindspot, and Vaz books.
I can't remember for sure, but I got the first Donsaii book on KU or it was free, or really discounted. I ziipped through it. Was really irritated that the second wasn't on KU, but the story was so good that I just kept going. I'll be buying all your books, even though you are on KU now. I've got to support my favorite author. Can't wait until they are all on audible as well.

Laury, you might want to ignore the next part. I am just running my mouth off. You just keep writing stories. : )
Some thoughts on the book. I felt like the writing style changed and the character list has grown. Which I kind of understand, you can not have the same person being the hero over and over again. But I get lost in the names. I can read a book, and really enjoy it, but when I am done I could tell you about the story and not once refer to the MC by name. It is like I remember everything by relationship to the MC. So that new guy healer – he is Tarc’s Mother’s Sister’s Son. The other three, 2 girls and a jerk. Or was it 3 girls.
Weber,
I like his early stuff.
Path of the Fury
The Apocalypse Troll
Honor Harrington - I think I stopped in the low teens and the last few were only because I did not want to give up on him.
I think he grew as a writer, but he lost his fan base.

Probably 2-3 months (as usual) for the 7th Hyllis family book. Then about the same for the next Donsaii.
I'm not so good on the planning and never have deadlines. The books are done whenever I think I've told the story.
Laury
PS, glad you seem to like them!

For you fans of audiobooks, Rocket (an Ell Donsaii story #4)
is out on Audible
https://www.audible.com/search?keywor...
(it'll be at the bottom of the page).
It should be on Amazon and iTunes within 48 hrs.
Hope you like it!

Laura's started on Comet already. It takes about 1-2 months for her to do a book, then a few more weeks for ACX to approve it.
Laury

Read Terraform. Ell is pregnant.

But Vaz and his family just fought off aliens. If nothing else we get a space boon when they build the defense force. But i am hoping that his daughter asks Vaz to design an explorer ship with the new space drive. Or we could just fast forward a few years and his daughter is taking the first new explorer for a test drive.
Has it really been 3 years since the last Vaz ?

Laury is one of my favorite authors. He’s very prolific (which is good, ‘cause I’m a really fast reader ;-(
I love each of his SERIES... and have read them multiple times. When I was younger, I NEVER read a book more than once. Now, I can suspend disbelief and enjoy them again and again.
Another book that you might like is “Temporary Duty” by Rick Locke (sp??).
BTW, I have purchased all the books the Laury has written...
Thank you Laury... This is SO MUCH FUN!!!
Clay

Unfortunately Rick Locke passed away in 2012 while working on a sequel. Another good author falling victim to cancer was William Zellmann - his books are still available on Amazon.

One of my favorite authors only puts out 1 book ever 2 years. The last time he updated his blog was back in February.
But yeah, where is he? He better not be sick. Not allowed. Now if he is on vacation recharging, that is allowable.

Goodreads stopped updating me when you guys post comments so I hadn't seen what you'd written until this morning when I got on to post that
Comet (an Ell Donsaii story #5) is now available on Amazon and Audible. It should be available on iTunes in a day or two.
Reuben, I'm almost done with the seventh Hyllis story
Rachael, No science for that one, but somethings do just seem to come back to some/most people ("it's like riding a bike") though not to high performance levels. I like to think Ell would be better at that too.
Walter, I'm gonna have to get back to the Blindspot stories sometime...
Thanks everyone for your interest
