Starting a blog.

Hi, I'm Laurence (goes by Laury) Dahners and I write science fiction. I've mostly published on Amazon since I love the Kindle. A lot of readers communicated with me and other readers on the Amazon Author's Forums, but those don't seem to be getting much support any more and there have been a lot of complaints.

So I thought I'd start a blog here on GoodReads as well as responding to "Ask the Author" questions that are posted on this site.

I'm not sure how well this will work for those of you who like to have discussions that don't necessarily involve me? Let me know if you're aware of a way for me to facilitate such discussion that I may not be aware of.

Hope this works for at least some of you who like to express your opinions!

James Donsaii is still my favorite series. Looking forward to the next one.

Laurence Dahners Thanks!

Joe Kwok Mr. Dahners, i was wondering is the Vaz series done? It seems like a lot more can be written! Two of your series bring hope to my life more than just entertainment, I'm in a wheelchair so you can guess i wish the float chaurs were real! Lol. Are you planing to spin off Els' son in another series or keep it as one? I've read all your books except six bits, and listened to all the books out so far your doing a great job!!

Joe

message 58: by Laurence (new)

Laurence Dahners Since I write for fun, when I finish one book I just write what I feel like next. Vaz again maybe? I haven't felt much of a pull toward that recently, but might again someday.

I'm writing another Donsaii book at present and as you can imagine, her son Zage figures prominently, but it isn't a separate series.

I think some of the stories in Six Bits are a lot of fun and keep thinking about writing more books to go with some of them too.

Laury

message 59: by James (new)

James Do you have an estimate when the next book might be finished?

message 60: by Laurence (new)

Laurence Dahners October/November?
Sorry, just writing for fun, not to any deadlines.

Laury

message 61: by Wicked (new)

Wicked Take your time. Your fun is working and i love your work

Tyson Laurence wrote: "October/November?

Great to hear! I've been wanting to reread the series for a couple months now, but with you writing book 15, I decided to wait until you're almost finished. I have a difficult time rereading books more then once in a short period of time and I much prefer rereading right before a new book is released. Sound's like I can finally start rereading in early/mid October.

message 63: by Laurence (new)

Laurence Dahners Hope it lives up to your hopes!

message 64: by Tyson (last edited Oct 04, 2018 09:01PM) (new)

Tyson So any news yet? Not trying to be pushy or anything but I expect it will take me under 2 weeks max to reread the series and I don't want to start too late.... or too much earlier for that matter. That would make the waiting worse.

message 65: by Laurence (new)

Laurence Dahners Sorry, better not start yet. I'm thinking at least a month, but maybe not even by then.

Laury Dahners

message 66: by Tyson (new)

Tyson Oh well I guess I'll continue reading some books in the Kurtherian Gambit Universe. I just finished the first main series. Btw, not sure if you've been told but you and the Ell Donsaii series got mentioned in the series. I think it was around book 18 somewhere.

message 67: by Laurence (new)

Laurence Dahners Yeah, someone mentioned it on here. Pretty cool of them.

Laury

message 68: by Muehe (new)

Muehe Vaz is my favorite character. Even with his reduced appearance in the Vaz series.
I am willing to wait for inspiration to strike you before I get more. Quality bets quantity every time.
I am kind of hoping that the next Vaz is Tiona going to the stars, but there is no way Vaz would go with her – not sure how I will like a Vaz book without Vaz.

Remember back on Amazon we had the big discussion on who was smarter, Vaz or Ell. That was fun – It is even more obvious now that Vaz wins.

message 69: by Luis (new)

Luis Salinas I think the question should be who is smarter, Vaz or Zage?

message 70: by Tyson (new)

Tyson I like Ell and Tiona better then Vaz. I think Vaz is smarter in terns of pure IQ, but there are different types of intelligence. Vaz has barely any EQ or socal intelligence. I like that Ell and Tiona have at least average EQ and socal intelligence. I find low EQ characters somewhat annoying sometimes. Don't get me wrong, i really like Vaz, but he can be a bit frusterating at times. And I suspect that once Zage matures, his IQ might well beat out Vaz. Zage is only 5 after all and I think he might already be as smart, if not smarter, then Ell.

George S T Humphries Laurence, In bioterror the villains were all radical Muslims.

If you have any more Muslim radicals to come, how about introducing a real Muslim hero, who follows the true meaning of Islam of peace to all.

message 72: by Wicked (new)

Wicked He did. The one that figured out the plot was a good muslim that was devestated that they would do such a thing

message 73: by Laurence (last edited Oct 22, 2018 10:17AM) (new)

Laurence Dahners Good point. But he only did a little bit to fight the problem. It'd be good to have a Muslim who really worked to the good. Bad guys and good guys come from all walks of life but trying to balance everything out would be difficult.

message 74: by Muehe (new)

Muehe I am still waiting for a Chinese hero.
Then I want a politician as a hero.
Actually I like that female president of Ell's. She kind of comes off as an ass (all the people she fired). But I like the way she stood her ground when everyone was telling her she is wrong and then kind of apologizing to Ell.
Side thought/comment. If Oppenheimer made the first bomb and never let the government have it, we would probably throw him in jail as a terrorist. But at the same time I agree with Ell. I would not trust the government with a one ended port.

Good stories.

message 75: by Tyson (new)

Tyson I don't know the details about Oppenheimer, but i suspect he was either working for the goverment or had goverment funding. Ell was entirely self funded in the books and worked only for herself.

So Laury, any news yet? Today is not only my birthday, but also Ell Donsaii's birthday so i figure thats a good omen on which to ask. (Fingers crossed)
I actually wondering, did u select Ell's birthday randomly?

message 76: by Laurence (new)

Laurence Dahners Tyson,
I've finished writing the book, but it needs a lot of editing and I have some things slowing me down. Seems kind of bizarre, but now that I've retired and have more time to write, it takes me longer to finish a book. Lazy days - everything takes longer when you're retired. ED15 should come out some time in November though.
October 23 is the birthday of someone important to me, not just Ell and Tyson.
Laury Dahners

message 77: by Adietz (new)

Adietz Happy Birthday, Ell (October 23)!!

message 78: by Tyson (new)

Tyson Great to hear the book is written. I'll just finish off the last few books of the series i'm currently reading and jump straight into Ell Donsaii.

message 79: by Jennifer (new)

Jennifer It's time to reread the series! Yay!

message 80: by Dan (new)

Dan Yes, I'll start my reread now. Love the Donsaii series. The downside of discovering a great author while they are still writing, is waiting for the next book to come out. The upside is that they are still alive and writing, so the books keep coming. Stay healthy. I'm looking forward to many more years of entertainment from you.

message 81: by Reup (last edited Oct 28, 2018 03:23AM) (new)

Reup I found this movie 'alpha' https://www.imdb.com/title/tt4244998/
that could be a softer and shorter version of the bonesetter

strange

well, I watch the movie, there is in fact little in common with the bonesetter. a guy get lost from a hunt, encounter a wolf, takes it home. I did like the movie because of the setting and the images

message 82: by Laurence (new)

Laurence Dahners Thanks!

Hope you like it.

message 87: by John (new)

John O'Sullivan Ordered

message 88: by Patsy (new)

Patsy Ordered and looking forward to it.

message 89: by Tyson (new)

Tyson I got it pre-ordered! The 3 week wait might kill me though so if I go silent.........

message 90: by Muehe (new)

Muehe Well we use to talk about what other book while waiting for the next one from Dahners.

So i just wanted to mention that the next Daniel Black Book is up for pre-order.

https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B07...

Btw, i also pre-ordered Ell #15 - the wait begins. Well double for me since i pre-ordered both.

message 91: by Jennifer (new)

Jennifer I recommend the Demon Accords series. It's urban fantasy, which I usually don't like, but I love this series.

message 92: by Vikarti (new)

Vikarti Both Ell #15 and Black #4 ordered as soon as they were announced. I hope they will be released before scheduled dates.

message 93: by Roland (new)

Roland Love the Donsaii serie, the other books too ;-)
Question/Idea/Suggestion for Donsaii's ports:
can they be used for manipulation of gravity? IE port on TC or near Jupiter opened on Earth

message 94: by Laurence (new)

Laurence Dahners Roland,
Have already established in book four that gravity doesn't go through ports. Would be pretty complex to understand if it did.
Glad you're interested though!
Laury Dahners

message 95: by Muehe (new)

Muehe Ell seems really worried about bring contamination to the solar system. So Ell universe space exploration will be done by ports/waldos. After I read the synopsis of the next book, I was thinking Ell might someday allow the terraforming of a barren system. But then I looped back to the whole contamination thing. I think Zage is going to have to develop something that will protect the whole biosphere of the solar system (or at least Earth) before she will feel safe. That seems impossible. Zage really needs to start studying the alien biology. He is such a mad scientist. I bet he could do great things.

On the other hand the Vaz universe already has the know how to do a jump drive. Plus the ships are faster. Time to build the Enterprise.

message 96: by Tyson (new)

Tyson I think Ell should have already built remote orbitals around the different stars with research equipment and waldos. She can decontaminate all the equiment and isolate the orbitals from both planets and still study alian DNA. I'd espesally do this with the Vergies and Sigmas, although i would place the Sigma lab in a barren system.

message 97: by Muehe (new)

Muehe Dahners,

Did you notice that Terraform it says "Book 14 of 15 in Ell Donsaii (15 Book Series)". Under the review stars, not the tittle part (that says 15).
i checked the other books, they look right.

Maybe it will change when it goes live?

message 98: by Laurence (new)

Laurence Dahners Hah! Thanks for pointing out. I've contacted Amazon and asked them to fix it.

message 99: by Tyson (last edited Nov 22, 2018 10:55PM) (new)

Tyson I'm now finished with my reread! I managed to stretch it out slowly over 3 weeks by spending entirely too much time on youtube and watching TV. Now I'm hoping Terraform will show up on kindle a few days early. :/

message 100: by Laurence (new)

Laurence Dahners Tyson,
Hope you like it enough to feel it's worth the wait!
