A couple of days ago I had an update on Facebook trying to force me to use Messenger on my phone. This has been going on for about two and a half years now, and I’ve held out. When they removed messages from their mobile app, I started bringing up Facebook open in a mobile browser to get to messages. Then, recently, they killed that too. I debated whether I’d ignore messages until I could get to a desktop, ignore messages entirely, give in, or whatever…but I get to continue laughing!
I did a little looking. Though the mobile version of Facebook that would come up when opened from a browser on a phone instead of using the app no longer had messages either, there are ways to force Facebook to load the desktop version of Facebook from a phone. Of course, it’s a little clunky trying to use the desktop version of Facebook from a phone, but I’m managing.
Most importantly, I can still avoid downloading Messenger. At this point, it’s just about thumbing my nose at them for trying to force me.
