It’s been about two and a half years since I decided to play chicken with Facebook on the whole messenger app. As of yet, I haven’t caved. To date, I can still open Facebook in a web browser on my phone rather than have to install messenger. However, I’m now getting warnings that will be going away too. (Update: before this went live access from a mobile browser went down. I still have not installed messenger.)
Not a bad run, two and a half years.
What will I do? Will I install messenger? Will I ignore all Facebook messages until I can get to an actual computer? Will I just ignore them entirely? It’s hard to say. Honestly, it isn’t as if I really have that much against the messenger app, just that I don’t want to be forced to it when they remove features from their main app/web interface. It’s kind of a game at this point.
I still think this whole thing is a bit dumb on their part. Perhaps mine too, but that’s to be expected.
We shall wait and see what develops.
