title run-off

...Not that art is a democracy. But anyway, I'm down to two, and the wire:

A Meeting in Cedonia

Penric's Mission

Any last thoughts?

Ekaser If your marketing persona is set on keeping 'Penric' in the title, then it's no choice. But aside from that, "A Meeting in Cedonia" is far and away the superior title. IMESHO. :-)

Jerri I think I vote for "A Meeting in Cedonia: A Penric Tale in the World of the Five Gods" or some such. And please release it soon!

message 3: by J.M. (new)

J.M. Ney-Grimm A Meeting in Cedonia.

Love the Penric stories!

Something like "Penric & Desdemona #3" will appear on the vendor-page ad copy, if anyone stops to read it. So that's covered.

Ta, L.

message 5: by Matt (new)

Matt Braymiller I like "A Meeting in Cedonia" as well. Between the two, that one suggests and teases me with questions. "Penric's Mission" leaves me a bit flat.

Though, honestly, you could title it "Bran Flakes" and I'd still read it.

message 6: by Lizabeth (new)

Lizabeth Tucker I like A Meeting in Cedonia. It just seems more intriguing.

message 7: by Ed (new)

Ed Bear Since, as you say, "Penric & Desdemona 3" will be on the page, I'd say go with "A Meeting in Cedonia." A title like that grabs my bump of curiosity with all four claws and a VERY good set of fangs.

message 8: by Erik (new)

Erik I so want to keep "Penric" in the title, but I must admit that "A Meeting in Cedonia" is a better title.

"Penric's Mission" sounds like generic YA fantasy.

message 9: by DebL (new)

DebL Another vote for A Meeting in Cedonia.

message 10: by Karl (new)

Karl One vote for "Penric's Mission."

message 11: by Aoife (new)

Aoife While last time I voted to keep Penric's name in the title, I have to go with 'A Meeting in Cedonia'. I think it would be far more likely to pique my interest if I spotted it while browsing.

message 12: by Amy (new)

Amy As an independent title, I prefer "A Mission in Cedonia" but as a person who is always catching up and losing titles in series, starting with "Penric" again strikes me as a good title, too.

In a list, it sounds great -- Penric's Demon, Penric and the Shaman, Penric's Mission, etc, etc, etc, (as I hope there will be many Penrics to follow!).

So I vote for Penric's Mission.

message 13: by Christy (new)

Christy I agree with Amy. The first two titles suggest a pattern, so let's keep it going.

Unless it's going to be a very, _very_ long series. Then you might need to allow a little more variety.

message 14: by Sylvia (new)

Sylvia McIvers if the other 2 had the Penric's name in it, this should too.

message 15: by Sylvia (new)

Sylvia McIvers Christy - the 'in death' series has gone on forever and a day, and kept the title format. Other long series also, and helped keep readers clued in.

message 16: by Plankuton (new)

Plankuton A meeting in Cedonia is very interesting.

message 17: by Christy (new)

Christy Sylvia wrote: "Christy - the 'in death' series has gone on forever and a day, and kept the title format. Other long series also, and helped keep readers clued in."

True, but the problem with that kind of series is that after a while, it can get harder and harder to remember which title is which.

message 18: by Caroline (new)

Caroline As Matt said, even titled 'Bran Flakes', I'd buy it ... a Bujold is, for me, an auto-buy.

That said, my vote is for A Meeting in Cedonia.

If I consider the book titles individually, I think that A Meeting in Cedonia is the more appealing & intriguing title. As part of a series, I'd generally prefer to keep the link that the name Penric provides in Penric's Mission. However, since the series title is Penric and Desdemona, I don't really feel that the individual titles need that link.

Elizabeth McCoy *ponders* With a choice between those... I think I'd just be looking at the line nearby, that says "BUJOLD" on it, and ignoring the rest. ;)

Lois Bujold Elizabeth wrote: "*ponders* With a choice between those... I think I'd just be looking at the line nearby, that says "BUJOLD" on it, and ignoring the rest. ;)"

Yes, but I have to choose, or you won't be looking at anything.

Softness Cedonia is such a pretty word. :)

message 22: by William (new)

William Wottlin For what it is worth i like Penric in the title. Do you reread "the unstrung harp" when completing short stories?

I reread The Unstrung Harp now and then; it is wonderful.

message 24: by Kelley (new)

Kelley While I would love to keep Penric in the title, "A Meeting in Cedonia" is by far the more intriguing title.

Can't wait!

I dunno: "Penric & Desdemona #3: Insert Title Here, by BUJOLD"
*everyone clicks BUY*

;)

message 26: by Jon (new)

Jon Someone mentioned what a marketing person would think. As one, I would suggest Penric's Mission

message 27: by Jo (new)

Jo A Meeting in Cedonia: A Penric Tale in the World of the Five Gods

message 28: by Margaret (new)

Margaret "Meeting in Sedonia", then Penric and Desdemona #3
---or "Bran Flakes" by LMcMB.

message 29: by Kosigan (new)

Kosigan I hope that Penric may have more than one mission, so I'll go for "A Meeting In Cedonia". That's the better-sounding title, to my inner ear.

message 30: by Deb (new)

Deb F I prefer Penric. If you told someone the Cedonia title, they'd almost certainly search for it as Sedonia, which may mean they can't find it.

message 31: by Jan (new)

Jan I'm more for keeping Penric's name in the title, given that the first two did.

message 32: by Beth (new)

Beth Penric's Mission. I agree with Deb about trying to spell Cedonia.

message 33: by BJ (new)

BJ I confess that A Meeting in Cedonia echoes SM Stirling's A Meeting in Corvallis a bit too much for me.

message 34: by Danny (new)

Danny Penric's Snafu in Cedonia

message 35: by Mai-Anh (new)

Mai-Anh Since Encounter in Cedonia didn't make it, consider me Team A Meeting in Cedonia! Hopefully I was more helpful this time around, haha.

message 36: by Rene (new)

Rene Arnush Hmmm. I like 'A Meeting in Cedonia' better than 'Penric's Mission' but I think 'Penric in Cedonia' would be better than either. Not that that's a choice, but still.

message 37: by Ann J.M.S. (last edited Oct 29, 2016 08:40AM) (new)

Ann J.M.S. Harlan I also vote for a choice not on the list... I want Penric AND Cedonia OR Encounter in the title, but I also vote for release soon. :)

Why not Penric's Mission to Cedonia (or in Cedonia) or Penric's Encounter in Cedonia. Penric's Meeting in Cedonia sounds too businesslike, but 'encounter' suggests the happenstance flavor of 'A meeting'. I also like Penric in Cedonia. But that's not what you asked...

Penric's Mission. I have a strong preference for ease of search in all naming conventions.
