Match Me If You Can by Susan Elizabeth Phillips
Humorous Sports Romance
Match Me If You Can is book 6 of the Chicago Stars Series. In this story, Annabelle, a "professional" matchmaker, has been hired by Heath, a wealthy sports agent, to find his perfect match. In the beginning, Annabelle can hardly stand the sight of the cocky, emotionally unavailable man, but as she gets to know him, she discovers his softer side. Determined not to get involved with her client, Annabelle introduces Heath to women that fit perfectly into his high-profile lifestyle, however, he rejects them one after another. When Annabelle and Heath go on a weekend retreat with mutual friends, their relationship heats up, but afterwards, Annabelle pushes Heath away, believing that she's not the one for him. This is the first book that I've read by Phillips and I have mixed feelings about it. I liked the main characters, but some of the side characters were distracting to me. I usually enjoy romantic comedies, but some of the humor felt overly contrived. Perhaps if I were more of a sports fan or if I would have read the first book in the series, I would have been more engaged in the story. That said, if you enjoy lighthearted sports-related romance, you may like Match Me If You Can.
