Touching Family Story
Where We Belong is a general fiction novel by the author of
First Comes Love. Marian and Conrad fall in love at age eighteen, even though they are from vastly different worlds. It is the summer before college and when Marian "accidentally" becomes pregnant she is devastated. Faced with difficult choices, Marian decides to break off her relationship with Conrad (without telling him about the pregnancy) and decides to give the baby up for adoption. Fast forward eighteen years, and Marian's life is upended again, when her beautiful daughter Kirby Rose, shows up at her doorstep. Marian and Kirby slowly form a relationship and it doesn't take long before Kirby wants to find her biological father. Together, they embark on a journey to find Conrad, which unleashes long-buried emotions from Marian's past. This story was warm, and touching, and real. Giffin switches back and forth between Marian's and Kirby's point of view which worked well. By the end of the book, I felt emotionally attached to the characters and the outcome. If you haven't read anything by Emily Giffin and/or you like family dramas, I would highly recommend
Where We Belong.
