How Do I Do It?
It’s interesting, but I’m often asked how I do what I do. The thing is, I’m very busy with a thousand things going on at the same time, but I prioritize my time based on my schedule. If I have research papers to work on, I wake up early and start on it straight away. If I have schoolwork with my son/student, I do it at a reasonable hour. If I have cooking and cleaning, I do it in between other work. If I have writing/editing/publishing/marketing, I try to do it at times when I will not be interrupted or distracted from my work (typically late at night or early in the mornings). There is a careful balance to things, and I treat my school, work, and writing like jobs, because they ARE! On the weekends, I catch up on everything that I wasn’t able to complete over the course of the week.
Case and point, this weekend was spent moving things all around the house and rearranging furniture in several rooms. It truly exhausted me, but it had to be done. Not only that, but this is the best time to do it, because fall is on its way! I have to get some of these things started while there’s enough sunlight and motivation for me to do them. Because, there are always days when doing anything is like pulling teeth.
Again, every one of us is busy with their own unique lifestyles, but we have to find what works for us. I find that even when I’m working from home, setting an alarm to remind me to do certain tasks at specific times, helps me to get plenty of work done. I’m my own best boss, because I know what I need to do in order to be the most productive. It’s a matter of setting a goal (or goals) and going for it!
