S2M for Locals: Let’s wrap up and get ready for Phase II!

It’s been about a month since we started the ‘S2M for Locals’-pilot, and man oh man has it been a busy, interesting, exciting and impressive month! So many learnings, so many new people and so much serendipity; it has truly been a great success. We really want to thank all of the people that opened up their homes and participated in the pilot, and of course also all the people that booked a workspace there!

I travelled wide and far (well, for Dutch standards) to visit all the pilot locations, and each was a true adventure! Read up on my experiences in these blogs:

Together they will create World Peace- and they met through S2M for Locals! Amsterdam, ‘House with a view’

How an author, a graphic designer, a music student and a neuroscientist ended up in the same room Utrecht, ‘het Stadshuisje’

Working at (not on) a massage table Utrecht, ‘Peona’

My first S2M for Locals experience Vinkeveen, ‘Sunny Waterfront Villa at Marina’

Not only are we (S2M) enthusiastic about the pilot, the surveys and evaluations showed that everyone involved really liked the concept and that people really enjoyed working at these locations. ‘Serendipity at your own kitchen table’, it started off as a hypothesis, but it has most certainly been confirmed! On average people rated the locations with a 9.5, stating that the Locals-environment really gave rise to good conversations and opportunities to explore each other’s relevance. All the hosts really want to continue as a Locals-location, claiming that it makes them feel more integrated and part of the larger S2M community.

What now? We have now concluded the first phase of the S2M for Locals pilot. We’ll take a short break, implement some changes, make it even better, and then we’ll continue in September! Based on the surveys and feedback we’ve decided it’s best to focus on developing a business model, meaning that new hosts can choose to offer their kitchen table in exchange for social capital ór monetary capital! Additionally, in order to further facilitate and instigate personal contact prior to arrival, we’re going to work on developing the booking system. This development will focus on facilitating personal contact and connections between the host and the booker, by adding a chat function throughout the booking process.
