My 2011 Reading Challenge Goes On!
Well, I'm 50/65 books for 2011. I'm 23 books (34%) ahead of my stated goal of 65 books. Now Goodreads suggests I jack up my goal. H'm. That's certainly an idea, isn't it? But I'll have to think twice about doing it.
Stuff keeps coming up, and you just never know what ill wind might interrupt your reading schedule. I once took a paperback Western to the dentist's office. The scene I finished reading just before I was called back described a leg amputation or something as grisly. The dentist asked me if I was all set for my gum graft.
"Uh, no, not really," I replied.
"Why is that, Mr. Lynskey?"
"Well, I just read a leg amputation scene."
"But it was just fiction, right?"
"Uh-huh, but I take my fiction pretty seriously."
The gum graft didn't hurt at all until they presented the bill for services rendered. Ha-ha.
Summer is my favorite season to read books for fun. The longer days have something big to do with it. Reading by natural sunlight is more rewarding to me than by artificial lamplight. Easier on the eyes. Plus which, vacation makes for a sweet time to loaf and read for pleasure.
