Sagging in a romance?

Now that's something you don't want to read, nothing worse than a sagging hero but that's not quite what I'm talking about. I'm talking about what us writers refer to as the 'saggy middle'. I has it. *sigh* Well Steve and Doc have it actually. At least I think they have it…. Damn. I honestly don't know anymore. I've hit the mid-point of Coyote Whispers and I honestly think it's f**ked. I'm looking around wondering where the hell we're going, who the hell is Tatum and more importantly why has she shown up six months pregnant with TWINS!!! Can anyone say 'who's your babies daddy?', oh and maybe if you could answer too.

Here's the thing, Steve and Doc are complicated. They have history, they have tension and they're trying to find their way even though they both know where they're going. How they get to that happy-ever-after is supposed to be the 'meat' of the story but what happens when they kinda get there in the beginning? Can the obstacles in their way be enough to make the story worth reading? I guess I dive back in and see where it is we're going because the thought of ditching 20,000 words just makes me want to cry. :(
