He's back!

Our pileated woodpecker was right outside my office windows today, knocking at a tree stump.  He's large and robust (stouter than the bird in this photo) and determined -- a real joy to watch.  I love me wild birds!  (Did I ever mention how uneventful my life is?)

Tam I'm really annoyed that blogger is down. Grrrr. So I'll post here.

My ex and I used to go birdwatching/hiking a lot. It was fun to see how many birds we could find. Pileated woodpeckers are not that common here, we did see one once in the forest though. It was a highlight. (Okay, my life is not that exciting either. LOL)

K.Z. Snow Wow, Tam, that doesn't sound like something you'd be into. Not sure why -- maybe because you seem so cosmopolitan. :)

We've always had hairy and downy woodpeckers around here, but that pileated is the first I've seen. I'm glad he's hanging around. The hawks and sandhill cranes are a treat, too, as is the occasional eagle. (Gah, listen to me go on about birds! See? You're not alone. *g*)

Tam Hey, I used to take the kid camping, in a tent, by myself. But I love fancy hotels too, like I'm in right now. :-)
