Thoughts on setlock week 5.
Week 5. Episode 1 is running long, especially as we don’t seem to be finished yet, as Claire tweeted last night, May 6th:
So what did this week on setlock reveal? Not that much to be honest, but lets look.
A lucky girl spotted Benedict in all his Sherlock glory at the Welsh Senedd on Sunday. We had a distant photo, but it was indeed the man himself. Later in the week Rachel tweeted a photo of Arwel sitting in the Senedd building, which appears to be from the same time BC was there. Therefore we have Sherlock visiting the halls of government, those halls were Lady Smallwood and Sir Edwin meet with Mycroft. This ties in nicely to the scenes from last week of Sherlock on Vauxhall Bridge and outside/inside MI6. We are getting international case vibes here. He is also alone, with a hint of John within MI6, so is John being protected within the walls of Vauxhall Cross? Is Sherlock trying to save his damsel yet again? Does Sherlock have to go to meet with the government in their offices in Whitehall [Welsh Senedd] to discuss the dangers/plans? Does any of this tie in to Moran and the threat in TEH to blow up Parliament? It all feels very ‘ongoing theme’ to me. It’s as if we are completing a thread of the story started in TEH. Which is all leading back to Mary being AGRA.
The more time goes by with this first episode the more I believe our three words are adventure, romance and terror. This first episode is packed with adventure.
Arwel tweeted a ‘reflective’ photo of what appeared to be Mary on the day they filmed the SoT ‘horns’ scene in 221B. Close to end of filming episode 1 series 4, we get a call back of sorts to that thumbs up, devilish smile pose with the horns coming out of her head. Almost prophetic, bringing things full circle? Arwel was triggered into thinking about that photo from setlock3, there is certainly something to this.
Filming appears to have been in the studios all week. Pinewood Wales and Roath Lock, which means they kept everything behind closed doors and we had very few hints. We know AA was working, as was BC, but it was crickets when it came to MF. Not one mention in Cardiff or even sighting of him in London. Wonder if he was gone on that other filming project? Dominique Arthur hinted next week that the costume dept may have a weeks’s break so that may tie in to some hiatus in filming? If Martin was MIA then we have scenes with just Sherlock and Mary filmed this week, final confrontation?
Mark stayed in a hotel over the weekend last week, didn’t have time to go home [as Sue did on Friday evening] Mark was unwell apparently, but he appears to have recovered. Was he filming in the Senedd on Sunday? Makes sense as Mycroft works in Whitehall. Wondering if Lady S and Sir E are back?
Beach Baby! Yes, we are seeing recce shots of the beach, I think Southerndown Beach in Bridgend. Of course our minds run, full steam, to Devil’s Foot, arguably the most romantic of all the canon stories. Our men are off to the coast, quiet cottage on the cliffs, Watson in full nurturing mode, so concerned over a weak and recovering Holmes. Long walks on the cliffs and the beach, just the two of them, content, a preview of how retirement could be. Add in the image of Jeremy Brett’s Holmes finally quitting drugs and symbolically burying the needle in the sand, and we have a beautiful story of love and ROMANCE. There it is our second word. If I were Mark or Steven, after I tackled STUD, SCAN, HOUN, SIGN, CHAS and FINA plus nods to various other canon stories in my show, I would do DEVI and 3GAR. Especially at this stage in my AU. Following TAB they have to produce the pay off, and the build up to the relationship needs to be over and the goods delivered. You do that with DEVI and 3GAR. Produce the goods I say!
