Layers and layers…and if that's not enough, add a few more.

This is going to be a quick post. I've got to write. Finally, after wasting way too much time trying to figure out what was missing with my WIP, it hit me.

The story had tons of layers. Enough to make a wedding cake worth a good chunk of change.

The problem? I was giving the reader nothing but icing.

It makes me think of an analogy I heard once, of how books are like icebergs. The audience gets whats above water. The writer needs to plan out the whole gigantic form. What's difficult is knowing when you're giving too much, or holding too much back. I was doing the latter.

So now that I've figured it out, I have to find a smooth way to hint at the extra layers, give the story some depth and still not overload my audience with information. Not an easy task, but I think I'm up to it. :)

Note: I've updated my contest page with the details of the Noble Author's Blog Tour. Haven't heard of it? Go check! It started April 5th. I'll do a post about it tomorrow if I get a chance. Right now I'm a busy, busy author!
