Into Deep Waters audio now whispersync'd

IntoDeepWatersv3

When I released this book on audio, I didn't expect it to ever be discounted. Audible.com sets the price for audio books, and the ebook from which it was created has been free for years on Amazon. However... it turns out that Audible has now whispersync'd this title, without changing the free price of the ebook.

That means you can now download the ebook on Amazon at no charge (www.amazon.com/Into-Deep-Waters-Kaje-...) and then add the audio narration for $3.47 to $5.50 (depending on where you live, exchange rates and taxes.)

I hope this will encourage people who've held off to consider checking out Kaleo Griffith's amazing narration for this story. He made me cry and chuckle with my own words, and that never happens. He's seriously talented, in this his first M/M audio title. (http://www.audible.com/pd/Fiction/Int...)

This story pays homage in fiction to some of the gay men who served in the US military, and who not only risked their lives but who risked being exposed and punished for their love. Day by day, year by year, decade by decade, these men won their acceptance from friends and co-workers, and hoped for a place in their families, and helped all of us move toward a more LGBTQ-friendly world. And, in my story, found love to last a lifetime.

Jason Oh I loved this one. I've been wanting to re-read it. Think I'll try Kaleo's narration when I do.

⚣Michaelle⚣ Wow, that's a really deep discount! Audible has it priced as $19.99 and it's listed at $17.95 for 1-click audio book buy.

While I'm glad more people MIGHT get it at a more affordable (for those of us without freaking jobs, anyway) price & possibly expand your audience - which your work deserves - I hope it's an oversight & something Amazon plans to fix.

Otherwise, that might turn out to be a really expensive error. And from reading Keira Andrews' recent Q&A entry, choosing to release an audio book can be hard to budget for. If it's an endeavor paid for up front (recording & narration costs at least, I'm guessing ), then you guys shouldn't lose money on the back end.

*Whistles* I feel slightly guilty that I'm gonna take advantage of it even though I really do know better...just gotta wait for the SigO to get home to get his card. (Sorry.)

Kaje Harper Go for it. Buy it cheap! If I didn't want that, I wouldn't have publicized the price drop all over, right? I mostly want it to be heard, and I know $19.00 has been a lot of money to spend.

Yeah, it took me aback at first, because the free ebook means no income from that. So I'm a bit nervous about how it will play out in the royalties (the audiobook production cost almost $2000) but at the same time, this is my favorite of my stories, narrated by a guy who gave it exactly the feel I wanted for it. So I'm going to go for the hope that if word gets out, it will be bought in a quantity that will trump the low price and it will all work out for the best. If not, well, a learning experience and more people meeting my favorite guys.

Riva That is really generous of you Kaje. I just don't understand why some books are Whsp'sd and others are not. And what is best for the authors? I like a deal as much as the next person, but not if it means the author will get short changed. I bought this book with my credit when it first came out and it was worth it. But I do agree, more people should hear it, it is one of the best.

<3 As I understand it, Whispersync is a bit arbitrary (and at AZ/Audible's discretion.) If the audio and the written differ too much (eg. if there is promo material or excerpts or editing between them) they will never whispersync. If they are very similar (I think I heard 97%+) then it may.

As for what's best for the author, darned if I know. With normal whispersync, the author gets the ebook royalty plus a little perk for the audio on top. Not sure how it compares. And there's always the issue of quantity versus higher price.

Since it's out of my hands, I'm going to be an optimist and look at it as a chance for exposure in my first audio, perhaps to some new listeners.

Riva Well that's disturbing to know authors have no control over the pricing of something they have to pay for up front. I wonder if that is the case if an author uses Audible Studios to do their recordings. However I can validate your view that this exposure may lead to new readers. There have been a number of authors and series I have purchased in ebook format after listening to their audiobook. Alexa Land's First and Forever series is my latest example. After one audio book I've now purchased six ebooks of the series.

Kaje Harper :) It has received a couple new ratings since it went down in price, so I'm hopeful.
