But Take Heart

There’s a great verse in the book of John that describes two overlapping realities about life:

John 16:33  I have told you all this so that you may have peace in me. Here on earth you will have many trials and sorrows. But take heart, because I have overcome the world.

Trial and sorrows will happen. And we’re not talking about your favorite basketball team lost kind of sorrow. We’re talking about the kind of trouble that makes you wonder if there is a God. This is the kind of trouble, pain, or crisis that can rock you to the very core of your foundation.

But notice that he says he’s telling us this so that we can have peace. Anyone interested in this peace he offers? He says “in me” you may have peace. When you immerse your current reality into his reality, that is where peace is found.

We are not exempt from trouble. We are not exempt from hurt and brokenness, but we do have a confidence that Jesus has overcome the world and our past. There is hope in surrendering to him.
