I’ve Joined Consented!

Greetings folks,

As anyone who is following the mischief I’m frequently getting up to will know, I’ve spent the last few months mouthing off about certain political hot potatoes. I decided that I should really make sure that these opinions and ideas are reaching the right people. This has led me to scoping out an alternative media website where I can post articles relating to the types of issues I feel compelled to cover. As somebody who writes socio-political satire with ultimately serious messages about the state of the world, I feel that it’s important for me to contribute to the expanding chorus of dissenting voices.

I am therefore pleased to announce that I have found a place where I’ll be posting my journalistic articles in the future which is over at Consented. Consented is an online media site with a diverse group of contributors. What all of the contributors have in common is that they’re critical of the narrative spun by the establishment and the cheerleading corporate media, and instead are engaged in reporting on and challenging the advancement of neoliberalism and the erosion of our democratic rights. I am aiming to have something up with them every couple of months or so depending on my commitments.

So from here on I will update my WordPress blog with links to any articles I write for Consented as well as general updates regarding my fiction writing. Meanwhile my Goodreads blog will be mostly focusing on my fictional writing endeavours and not so much my polemical output.

I’d like to give a big thanks to Steve Topple for his help with this development and also the folks at Consented for the opportunity to write for them. For those who are interested you can find my first article for Consented here:

It’s about the EU referendum...

Massive thanks for your continued support and I’ll be back with an update soon enough.

Harry Whitewolf Great article Rupert. It would be great to have referendums on issues like that, and you've picked 5 that really should be had.

Rupert Dreyfus Cheers, Harry! There are many more premises, but these were the most immediate ones that came to mind.

Harry Whitewolf I often think, as I'm sure we all do, that the most important debates are never had and that referendums should be held for all manner of things.

And the EU referendum? Nobody seems to really give a crap, and they've managed to confuse the issues so much now that no one knows what they're voting for. I got a leaflet through yesterday explaining why we should stay in - loved how it was labelled 'from the government' (as opposed to being from the Tories)!

Rebecca Gransden Great to see Dreyfus spreading like a virus - one with beneficial symptoms :) Makes complete sense to compartmentalise the different aspects of your writing and opinion, easier for those who want to follow different strands of the Dreyfus universe. Which is great - though it's all good from my perspective. Harry is right about our upcoming supposed to give a shitness regarding the EU referendum. I'm one of the the ones who wants to be engaged with it, but feel I know less now after hearing point and counterpoint than I did before trying to take an active interest - and I knew virtually nothing previously so where does that leave me? I'm in two minds whether to vote or not as I think I'll essentially be left with going with my gut, when I'd much rather make a decision based on insight and substantive argument. Idealistic I know :P

Looking forward to your future contributions. I've signed up to the newsletter so I don't miss any, but I have a feeling you'll let us know when an article is imminent.

Rupert Dreyfus Cheers, Becs! And thanks for the support.

I'll probably post future articles as status updates here rather than blogs. I'll keep GR more in line with my fictional writing endeavours.

Leo Robertson Great stuff! Congrats! :D

Catherine I'm not into politics at all...in fact I find it extremely boring. However, I enjoy reading satire on the subject..it is always good to see all those bigwigs in a humourous light. Although, sometimes life is more humourous....depends on who your watching.
