{pretty, happy, funny, real} ~ Easter recap

What is this {pretty, happy, funny, real} you speak of?

Capturing the context of contentment in everyday life ~

Every Thursday, here at Like Mother, Like Daughter!

We ended up with a fairly quiet Easter celebration here at our house, despite plans for a houseful of guests. We had our realtor come by to look at the house and talk to us about putting it on the market, so everything was sparkling clean by Holy Thursday.

(Which, by the way, is when Maria Von Trapp says your Easter cleaning should be finished by. Score!)

I had the meat marinating and was using up the butter as fast as I could move it from the freezer to the fridge. I was working through my prep lists. We were on track.

Our girls were finally getting over a slow-moving bug that kept them cranky and feverish on and off for the better part of two weeks.  (What is it about holidays that makes kids get sick?) We decided we weren’t going to derail their recovery by keeping them up late for the Holy Thursday and Good Friday liturgies, but thought we should be all set to go Easter morning. But then Pippo finally succumbed on Holy Saturday, and we had to split up for Mass and cancel our dinner.

That is, we told our guests not to come.

But we (along with my brother-in-law, who was already up here from Dallas) still feasted!

I downgraded my food plans a bit, and stuck a few things in the freezer for another time, but mostly we just enjoyed it all, then enjoyed it again for lunch and dinner the next day, too! (We’re still working on the desserts. There are worse problems to have than a backlog of sweets during Easter.)

The girls were super cute in their matching dresses from Habibti, and even though a pajamaed Pippo meant I wasn’t even going to pretend to attempt an official family photo, I got Capt. P to take some pictures of all three of us girls in our Easter dresses.

Poor Pippo did rally a bit in time to spend a few minutes outside with us and eat a little dinner before retreating back to his little nest on the sofa.

Now we’re all pretty much on the mend, and trying to finish up all our Easter desserts (it’s a difficult job, but someone’s got to do it) in time to make some birthday cake this weekend. (Fun fact: Nora has celebrated two Easters in her first year!)

Did your Easter Sunday go as planned? I hope you are still well-supplied with chocolate.
