Rainbow Snippets – March 26th 2016

This time, I am returning to one of my NaNoWriMo efforts with my latest Rainbow Snippet. For those of you who don’t know,  Rainbow Snippets is a Facebook group where you share six sentences of a work that has LGBT related content. If you want to check out this great community for yourselves, be sure to check them out here.

This week’s Rainbow Snippet is from the work in progress supernatural urban fantasy novel named The Shifting Secrets: Written in Blood. Here is the original synopsis, which was posted in 2012.

A world where the supernatural creatures exist, and they are met with prejudice in their quest to survive.

The city of Shinelake exists in the middle of England. It has tall buildings, a forest in the suburbs, and a turf war between two species of vampire. In the north, there exists the Graiabluds who respect human life, and the Crimbluds to the south desire to control them. Caught between the two factions are the wereshifters, who are trusted and revered by most of the Graiabluds, but dispised and brutalized by the Crimbluds.

In a sacred ground between the two towns, there is a sanctuary named Talon’s Claw. Within these walls, wereshifters can deal with the traumas of their change, their training to learn control and affinity with their beasts and most of all, keep their well-being and positive attitudes. Alex Marsden is a young man who assists the shifters using his talents, against the wishes of his Crimblud supporting father. Although the laws prevent any kind of persecution against his beloved shifters, Alex is about to learn in a town where you’re caught on the wrong side of a social prejudice, things can take a turn for the worst.

Especially when a horrifying secret is revealed from his family’s past, that involves a darker power than even the Crimblud vampires themselves.

This segment is set seven years before the present day of the novel, in which a 17 year old Alex has just escaped from a group of Crimbluds. He has run into a strong bodied werelion named Lanley Shane, and fallen to the floor because of it.

Strands of golden silk fell from his head, covering his eyes in a matter that seemed to suggest he was used to being admired. The stranger was over six foot at least, and in the middle of his sculptured face, sat two sapphire irises in two stunningly white eyes.

Before he could move, Alex felt his head being lifted by one of the man’s soft hands, and his upper body being supported with the other.

“Are you alright?” he asked, his voice as soft and golden as his hair.

Words failed him for a moment, but a rush of heat flooded his face and spread straight to his cheeks. With a warm smile, the man pushed Alex forward, and then his knight in cotton armour planted his lips on his, brushing the tips of his teeth with his soft lustful tongue.

Once again, I would like to thank every member of the group who has offered me kind words so far. Your support and friendship mean the world to me. I hope you enjoyed everyone enjoyed this little snippet, and are looking forward to another brief glimpse as well as the final release.
