Education should grow along with the societal changes

Education nowadays is slowly changing, at elementary school and high school the books are gradually being replaced by tablets and EBooks. In fact, one third of the Dutch schools already work with these ‘new’ technologies. This change is very big in the education sector, namely because the education has been the same in the Netherlands for years. Even though the schools finally adapt to the technological changes, the structure that they use stay the same.

Transition to Society 3.0

At the moment we are in the middle of a transition phase, old structures cannot survive within this new networking society. The crushed structures within companies will not exist anymore. The value networks will take over and social capital is what is important now, creating the society 3.0. A company that taps into this market is Seats2meet, where visitors pay with social capital.

Nyenrode New Business School

We are Anne Rein and Viviana, students at the Nyenrode New Business school in Amsterdam. We are following an extra course, minor, which teaches us about trends and paradigm shifts in society and business. AmsterdamConnected, a Seats2meet inspired location, was kind enough to host us for one of our paradigm shift days.

Taste of having education in the society 3.0 style

Remarkable of the course is that we are educated in a very different and interactive way. We, and many other students, noticed that with this way of educating we have learned more than other traditional courses offered at schools. We do not only see different and inspiring places such as AmsterdamConnected but we also meet different and inspiring people.

Education should also adapt to this new society

After this enlightening moment we began to question ourselves why this way of teaching is not known and applied yet? Politicians argue that Dutch people need to be smarter to keep up in the more knowledge oriented international progress, thus more people need to study. Maybe this new way of teaching is what we need. Instead of just listening to a professor and process the information he or she gives the lessons should be more interactive, let the students share knowledge. Meet at places such as AmsterdamConnected, this enables students to see how it is in practice and to meet other people to share knowledge with one another. Why should only companies adapt to this new society? In our opinion, schools also need to adapt to this society 3.0.
