First American Book on Canadian Rock Band The Tragically Hip

On August 20th, 2016 11.7 million Canadians stood transfixed, watching the final concert of The Tragically Hip, and the rest of the world asked, “Who is this band?” New York Times best-selling pop journalist Marc Shapiro answers that question in the first American book about this Canadian rock band that largely shunned the spotlight but has become the standard bearer of a resurgent sense of Canadian pride and patriotism.

What is Hip? The Life And Times Of The Tragically Hip delves deep beneath the surface of this rock and roll story to discover how a band that spent more than three decades in the rock and roll trenches selling millions of albums and opening for the likes of The Rolling Stones, The Who and Led Zeppelin’s Page & Plant, remained almost unknown outside their home country, even as they rose to the level of rock royalty in Canada.

Through extensive research and some well-placed sources, author Shapiro has put together a complete look at The Tragically Hip’s rise from humble Kingston roots to endless tours, the internal struggles to keep their music fresh and the fanatic loyalty they fostered in millions of Canadian fans of all ages and generations. Fans that would unite to honor the band and shed more than a few tears when it was announced that singer Gord Downie had been diagnosed with brain cancer and that The Hip were about to embark on what may well be their final tour.

“What drew me to The Tragically Hip was a lot of questions I had,” author Shapiro said. “The most enticing to me being ‘How did they do it?’ “This was a band that almost completely avoided compromises creatively and business wise. And to be honest, their career might have turned out easier and different if they hadn’t. But you’ve got to admire anyone, band or mortal, who forges their own path regardless of the consequences. I had to know what makes rugged individualists tick and this book answers those questions.”

Welcome New LPA Agent, Ben Grange

The L. Perkins Agency is thrilled to announce that Ben Grange, formerly the assistant at the JABerwocky Literary Agency, has joined the Agency where he will be representing authors of both fiction and some nonfiction.

Before joining the L. Perkins Agency, Grange had a varied publishing experience. He was a publishing intern at a small publisher in Salt Lake City, Utah, and then completed internships at three literary agencies before his most recent position as the assistant at JABberwocky.

At the L. Perkins Agency, he will be representing middle grade fiction of all types, and is particularly on the lookout for exceptional author-illustrators who write middle grade or young adult. Grange has a penchant for young adult science fiction and fantasy, particularly weird or slightly dark stories (à la The Raven Boys by Maggie Stiefvater). He loves epic fantasy and science fiction, and although his focus is on middle grade and young adult, he won't say no to a great fantasy or sci-fi. He is also interested in pop culture nonfiction for authors with established platforms.

“I'm thrilled to take this next step in my journey as an agent, and can't wait to roll up my sleeves and get to work. There are big things happening in children's fiction right now, and I'm glad I get to be a part of it."

Said Agency founder and President, Lori Perkins, “We are excited to have Ben join the team, as his interests compliment those of the existing six agents. This is going to be wonderful expansion of the agency’s place in the publishing industry.”

About the Agency
Founded in 1987 by Lori Perkins, a former newspaper publisher and editor, the L. Perkins Agency specializes in many different genres with seven agents representing approximately 100 authors to the publishing industry. The agency also has agents in many foreign territories and works with an established film/television agency to maximize exposure for our clients. The L. Perkins Agency’s seven acquiring agents have a diverse range of tastes and are currently looking for material in a wide spectrum of genres and subjects. Lperkinsagency.com

Persephone's Beastly Lover, Book 3 of Werewolves of Rebellion, Just Pubbed!

Riverdale Avenue Books has just released Persephone's Beastly Lover, book 3 of the Werewolves of Rebellion series, by Ana Lee Kennedy. Werewolves of Rebellion is the "True Blood" meets "Sons of Anarchy" sexy adventure you've been waiting for!

Persephone Jones is part of a paranormal investigation team out of Detroit. She manages all the information the team gathers on cases, but everyone suspects there’s more to Seph than she’s letting on—she’s a medium, a powerful one. When the team is called by Jack Henessy, a member of the Werewolves of Rebellion MC, to investigate disturbances in his new home, Seph and Jack are possessed by the entities and inadvertently participate in a kiss that rocks them both with its intensity and sets them on an intertwined path.

Jack finds that he will do anything to protect Seph, anything to claim her. However, he’s uncertain if she feels the same way about him. Seph’s past is shrouded, even from her, and she’s hiding something buried so deeply that it takes an explosive night of sex to unlock the secret. However, someone has a bone to pick with Jack. A stalker targets him, then goes after Seph. Between bags of weed planted in his home and a shooter taking pot shots at him, Jack must learn who has a vendetta against him and why. When Seph is nearly killed by a few Wraithkillers, it plunges the Werewolves of Rebellion into the path of the most unexpected culprit of all.

It will take Seph’s mysterious past and the kindness of an abused spirit to save Jack and his MC family. Once Seph’s true identity is revealed, there’s no turning back.

Downloads of this book are available at RiverdaleAveBooks.com and also at Amazon, Barnes & Nobles Nook, iTunes, Kobo and where digital and print books are sold.

A Beast's Bell, BDSM Beauty and the Beast, Just Pubbed

Riverdale Avenue Books has released A Beast’s Belle, a BDSM retelling of the classic fairy tale, Beauty and the Beast, by first-time novelist j. Gambardella. A Beast’s Belle’s release coincides with Disney’s live-action version of the movie that opens theaters March 17th.

A Beast’s Belle offers a twist on a classic story; Isabel is the daughter of a widowed inventor and tinkerer, but leaves home to join the indentured staff of a manor. Upon arriving, she explores the rigid structure of domestic servitude and discipline in the manor, and eventually grows fascinated with the Master of the house, a feral man with curious proclivities and voracious appetites. Isabel tries to find her way in a new life at the manor, but quickly finds herself bound up with the Master of the house and engrossed in the lifestyle and ritual the manor’s occupants share.

“Beauty and the Beast has become a classic story, constantly retold; my goal here is to change some of the elements of the story to explore the emotions and personalities of the beloved characters more deeply, as well as find and express the romance in BDSM and power dynamics that are such a compelling (though often under-appreciated) motif in the story," said the author.

“A Beast’s Belle is a classic fairy tale told in a new light,” said Publisher Lori Perkins. “This novel reminds me of Anne Rice’s Beauty Trilogy where she retells the story of Sleeping Beauty with BDSM themes.”

Downloads of this book are available at RiverdaleAveBooks.com and also at Amazon, Barnes & Nobles Nook, iTunes, Kobo and where digital and print books are sold.

About J. Gambardella
J. Gambardella was born and raised in northern California, where he was fortunate to be raised around a rich library in a single-parent home, affording him enormous time to read. As a young adult, he had the opportunity to work in a bookstore where he interacted with some of the greatest literary minds northern and central California had to offer, taking their advice and applying it to his own fancies and fantasies. He adopted a pseudonym to work in erotic romance, and looks forward to an illustrious career sharing his perverted and idealistic imagination with a new audience.
