Writers' Event at Morris-Jumel Mansion on Sat. 6/25
Please join us on Saturday, June 25th for our Morris-Jumel Mansion Anthology Writers' Gathering, from 6:00pm-7:00pm in the Octagon Room of the Morris-Jumel Mansion, featuring gourmet pizza, wine, and other refreshments. I am also happy to announce that we are extending the deadline for submissions to the Morris-Jumel Mansion Anthology of Paranormal and Fantasy Fiction until Friday, July 8th, to give you a little more time to write, should you need it.
On Saturday June 25th we will provide a tour of the newly renovated Morris-Jumel Mansion interior, which has been redecorated to reflect the Mansion during the time of Eliza Jumel. This change in decor may affect details of your stories, so if you haven't seen the renovations, please do come and take a look at how the Mansion has changed.
Our meeting will be followed by a Paranormal Investigation, 8:00pm-11:00pm, which I highly recommend. If you wish to attend the paranormal investigation, call the Mansion or email Vincent Carbone, their paranormal investigator, at publicprograms@morrisjumel.org. July 25th is also the day of the Romance Literary Festival, from 2:00 to 5:30pm, so please consider making a day of it and getting fed by us between events!
Please RSVP to this email to let us know you're coming (we want to be sure to have enough pizza!), even if you decide to come at the last minute. If you know any other interested writers, please pass this information on to them.
We look forward to seeing you at the Anthology Writers' Gathering on July 25th at 6pm!

LOST AND FOUND, Autobio of Mother/Child Reunion by WoW/NY Times Bestselling Author Micky Neilson
Riverdale Avenue Books just published Lost and Found, the autobiography of Micky Neilson, a 20 year-veteran of the World of Warcraft franchise, which the publisher describes as The Glass Castle meets Of Dice and Men, to tie-in with the international box office release of the Warcraft move.
Lost and Found: An Autobiography About Discovering Family, is the harrowing and inspirational memoir of the successful contributor to World of Warcraft and N.Y. Times best-seller Micky Neilson, who was kidnapped by his schizophrenic father as a toddler, spending his earliest years on the run and his teenage years as a foster child. This autobiography chronicles Micky’s experience serving in the first Gulf War, the meteoric rise of Blizzard Entertainment and, most triumphantly, his reuniting with the family that was stolen from him as a child.
"No one who reads my fiction today or plays the video games I've contributed to knows that I was kidnapped at eight months old, that I grew up with a schizophrenic father, that I didn't attend school until 7th grade, or that I never knew my true identity until I was reunited with my family after 38 years,” said the author. “It's such an honor to finally be able to share my life story."
“As soon as I heard Micky’s story, I was amazed.’ said Publisher Lori Perkins. “I know that thousands of adopted and foster children are convinced that their parents are still alive or looking for them when everyone else has given up. Micky’s story is an overwhelmingly cathartic experience, with a happy ending that needs to be shared.”
Neilson added, "what I want people to take away from this story -- of me overcoming years of struggle to reunite with my family and achieve success, is this: believe in yourself. Every human being, regardless of circumstance or hardship, can make choices that will lead to a happier, better life. But it all starts with believing in you."
About the Author
Micky Neilson is a two-time New York Times best-selling author whose graphic novels, Ashbringer (#2 on the list) and Pearl of Pandaria (#3) have both been published in six languages, selling especially well in the German, Korean and Brazilian markets. As one of the founding writers of Blizzard Entertainment, he has more than two decades experience in the cutting edge of the gaming industry. He is currently working on a graphic novel, Rook, as well as a horror novel, The Turning, and a number of film projects.

RAB Publishes Erotic Wonderland Anthology to Tie-in with Disney Movie
As Disney prepares to release its latest retelling of this classic, Riverdale Avenue Books brings you the erotic version.
Below is an interview with the anthology's editor, J. Blackmore
How did you come up with the idea for this anthology?
I honestly can't remember if this theme was assigned, or if I chose it because that's the kind of erotica I wanted to read. I usually come up with anthology ideas based in what I feel like reading. I know the idea to do two--one light and dreamy, the other dark and nightmarish--was something I asked for because the submissions demanded it. There were too many good stories with conflicting themes to only do one collection.
Why do you think the Alice in Wonderland universe lends itself to constant retelling and fan fiction?
Wonderland is very deep and shifts constantly. It's a dream world, and we all dream, so we all have an idea of what our Wonderland should look like. Also, Carroll left a lot of stories untold, or half told, and it's almost a compulsive need for some of us to know those stories.
Do you have a favorite retelling?
A lot of my favorite retellings are in these collections. The stories here brought the love and lust that I, as a lusty kid, always wanted in the original stories.
Do you think you’ll edit more with the release of this latest Disney version?
I'd love to do another collection, whether or not that's realistic. I was stunned by the original group, and had a hard time picking ones not to print. Since then, I've worked with authors who I would love to see give this a try.

Riverdale Avenue Books Wins Two IP Awards for Best Erotic Novel and LGBT Nonfiction
Chicago, IL (May 11, 2016) – Innovative publisher Riverdale Avenue Books received two prestigious awards from the Independent Publishers’ Association (IPPY) on the eve of Book Expo America (BEA) in Chicago. Riverdale’s Ménage a Musketeer by Alexander Dumas and Jamie Schmidt, an erotic “mash up” of the Three Musketeers classic in the popular vein of Pride, Prejudice and Zombies, received the Gold Medal in the Erotica category on this 20th anniversary of the IPPY Awards.
Finding Masculinity: Female to Male Transition in Adulthood by Alex Walker and Emmet Jack, an anthology on transmasculinity, tied for the Silver Medal in the LGBT nonfiction category.
USA Today best-selling author Jamie Schmidt, who writes erotica under the Lissa Trevor name, said of her win, “It takes a village to build a book and I'd like to thank my editor and publisher, Lori Perkins and all the Riverdale Avenue Books staff for all their hard work in producing my erotic mash-up of Alexander Dumas' book, The Three Musketeers. I'd also like to thank my fantastic cover artist, Scott Carpenter for giving me a gorgeous cover that's worthy of being a poster. And my cover models, Vik, Brad and Steven -- thank you for bringing the hotness!
Ménage a Musketeer is a tale of sword and debauchery. It started off as a way for me to come to terms with D'Artagnan's poor behavior in the original book and what I felt was the unfair treatment of Milady de Winter. In this retelling, D'Artagnan no longer rapes Milady, nor does he seduce her innocent maid. But don't worry, he has plenty of sex and carouses like a musketeer should. In the end, Athos and Milady get a second chance and there is a happily sexy after. All for one and one for all -- indeed.”
Jim Barnes, founder of the IPPY Awards and master of ceremonies at last night’s event, commented that he wished we had brought the cover models. Maybe next year!
Alex Walker was equally eloquent about Finding Masculinity’s Silver Award. “Now, more than ever, transgender stories are in the spotlight, yet the rates of suicide, death and substance abuse continue to remain high in our community. Our goal was to give insight into the experiences of transmasculine individuals navigating their gender identity in adulthood, thus sharing stories that highlighted paths that even though not necessarily easy, were guided by the will to live authentically, finding peace and happiness. We urge you to seek out media that is helmed by transgender individuals - work that sheds light on the struggles and triumphs of our community and work that reflects human experience, no matter what the gender identity.”

RAB Publishes Anthology Queering Sexual Violence
Often pushed to the margins, queer, transgender and gender non-conforming survivors have been organizing in anti-violence work since the birth of the movement. The groundbreaking anthology Queering Sexual Violence: Radical Voices from Within the Anti-Violence Movement locates them at the center of the anti-violence movement and creates a space for their voices to be heard.
Moving beyond dominant narratives and the traditional “violence against women” framework, the book is multi-gendered, multi-racial and multi-layered. This thirty-seven piece collection disrupts the mainstream conversations about sexual violence and connects them to disability justice, sex worker rights, healing justice, racial justice, gender self-determination, queer & trans liberation and prison industrial complex abolition through reflections, personal narrative, and strategies for resistance and healing.
The contributors to this book are a feral and wildly compassionate collection of writers, bartenders, professors, therapists, sex workers, healers, sex positive educators, organizers, musicians, bloggers, non-profit workers, filmmakers and rabble rousers. While systems, institutions, families, communities and partners have failed them, this collection lifts them up, honors a multitude of lived experiences and shares the radical work that is being done outside mainstream anti-violence and the non-profit industrial complex.
Said Publisher Lori Perkins, “This is such an important book at this time when we are re-examining gender in this country, and abroad. It is imperative that these stories be told and heard in their own voices and in their own space.” Perkins added, “The editor, Jennifer Patterson, has been toiling on this book for six years, and she has collected an impassioned collection of essays on a subject whose time has come.”

Celebrate Opening Day with Bronx Bummers: The Unofficial History of The New York Yankees' Bad Boys, Blunders and Brawls
To celebrate the official opening of the 2016 baseball season, Innovative hybrid publisher Riverdale Avenue Books (RAB) has just released Bronx Bummers: The Unofficial History of the New York Yankees’ Bad Boys, Blunders and Brawls by Daily News staffers Robert Dominguez and David Hinckley.
Whether you love the Yankees or loathe them, even the most casual baseball fan is well versed on the team’s nearly 100-year lineage of legends that span the decades from Ruth to DiMaggio to Mantle to Jeter. Most every book on the Yankees, therefore, heralds the unparalleled winning tradition of the famed Bronx Bombers. This is not that kind of book. In Bronx Bummers: The Unofficial History of the New York Yankees’ Bad Boys, Blunders and Brawls, the authors shine a light on the dark side of the team’s otherwise illustrious history.
In 50 lighthearted chapters, Bronx Bummers begins with the tale of the Yankees’ first colorful owners in 1903 — one was a former New York police chief widely considered the most corrupt cop in city history, the other was Manhattan's biggest owner of illegal gambling dens — and continues through the sordid exploits of some of the team’s earliest stars, including a slick-fielding first baseman run out of baseball for throwing games; a good-hitting pitcher who derailed his Hall of Fame-bound career with his brawling and boozing ways; and even the great Babe Ruth himself, who regularly led the league in HRs, RBIs and STDs. And while most baseball teams have a history of bench-clearing brawls, Dominguez and Hinckley, veteran New York City tabloid reporters, chronicle how the Yankees hold the unofficial record for most fights between teammates — not to mention the most front-office blunders. From the bad old days of the team’s origins as the Highlanders all the way to the Bronx Zoo years and beyond, Bronx Bummers divulges what really went on behind the boxscores of baseball's winningest franchise.
Author Robert Dominguez explained the genesis of the book. “The seed of the idea for a book detailing the ‘human’ side of Yankee heroes goes back at least 45 years, when I was growing up near the Stadium. Back in the early ’70s you could easily sneak into the players’ parking lot, and even as a wide-eyed 10-year-old it was easy to see who the really nice ones were (Thank you, Mel Stottlemyre, for your autograph), the not-so-nice (Screw you, Mike Kekich, for promising me one and then driving away) and even which of the married ones were out trolling for groupies. So while I’m still a diehard and devoted fan to this day, it was a blast to delve into the Yankees’ rich history and uncover some of the sordid stuff that people either don’t remember or don’t realize happened.”
Co- author David Hinckley added, “baseball is a game where the core challenge is to overcome imperfection — to get a hit three times out of ten, to advance four bases when most of the time you won’t. That’s why it was so much fun to dig back into moments that did not have a good outcome. It’s what baseball is about, as much as the moments that do. So we looked on these remembered tales as twofers: a consolation for Yankee haters and a reminder for Yankee fans that the HRs and Ws taste sweeter when you endured a few Ks and Ls along the way.”
Publisher Lori Perkins said, “As a native New Yorker and a life-long Yankees fan, I thought I knew it all, but Dominguez and Hinckley really unearthed some great ‘bad Yankees’ tales. I couldn’t put the book down.“

The Morris-Jumel Mansion, in collaboration with Riverdale Avenue Books, will be publishing an Anthology of Paranormal Romance and Fantasy Fiction based on the Morris-Jumel Mansion.

An information session delving into the fascinating history of the Morris-Jumel Mansion and its inhabitants will be held at the Mansion for writers, including a walk through of the house and property, a historical overview, and question-and-answer session, on Saturday, March 12th at 5pm. Light refreshments will be served. To RSVP, please email mjmanthology@gmail.com. Also, please use this email for any questions you may have, or to schedule a private tour with the anthology’s editor.
Attached please find a useful list of incidents and inhabitants at the Morris-Jumel Mansion, and a short biography of its controversial inhabitant, Eliza Jumel.
Submissions:
The deadline for story submissions is June 30th, 2016, with the book scheduled to be published online and in print by the end of October, 2016.
Stories should run between 2000 and 5000 words. If you have something longer, please email mjmanthology@gmail.com to discuss the parameters of your story with the editor. Submission does not guarantee publication. Authors will be notified if and when their story is chosen for publication.
Brief History of the Mansion:
The Morris-Jumel Mansion is the oldest house in Manhattan. Built in 1765 by Royalist couple Roger Morris and his wife Mary Phillipse (of the famed Sleepy Hollow and Yonkers Phillipses), the house went through phases as a quarter for George Washington during the Battle of Harlem Heights, a Royalist barracks for soldiers loyal to George III, a tavern, and the home of the famed Madame Eliza Jumel, who, despite humble beginnings, became the richest woman in Manhattan due to her financial prowess. The daughter of a prostitute, Eliza was born in a brothel in 1775. Through her intelligence and initiative she raised herself into wealthy circles. Her first husband, Stephen Jumel, was a French wine merchant. The couple purchased the Morris-Jumel Mansion as a country estate. After the death of her first husband, Eliza married Aaron Burr, and he came to live in the Mansion. Burr, who had been vice president under Thomas Jefferson, is best known to modern students of history as the man who killed Alexander Hamilton in a duel. It may surprise some to know that he was also an early supporter of women’s rights and anti-slavery. He was a complex and ambitious man, who, along with his famous opponent, is portrayed to powerful effect in the Broadway musical “Hamilton.” Eliza divorced Aaron Burr, citing infidelity, and he died the day the divorce was finalized. Eliza Jumel died at the age of 90, though some say her spirit still inhabits the house. After Eliza’s death, the Mansion and its contents were fought over by rival familial factions for 20 litigious years. In 1903, the Mansion was purchased by the City of New York for preservation.

I am thrilled to have published Ethan Mordden’s Passionate Attention of an Interesting Man. Ethan’s story collections Buddies and Everybody Loves You were books I read while coming out, their distinctive Stonewall Inn Editions logo on the spine announcing “gay fiction!” to anyone in the know.
Passionate Attention is a clever, fun, sexy read featuring a brand new novella and four stories. While not quite erotica, it’s still hot!—or as Ethan describes it, “Every one of the stories deals with the relationship of a dominant and submissive male, the daddy and his ‘boy,’ the top man and the vassal.”
In one of my favorite passages, a character says, “Jutter Flexx was not a porn star. He had done some modeling for Colt, and he did become one of their most exploited figures, with his own calendar. In the gay world, this is like being elected President of France.” How can I not love a brilliant line like that?
