New Short Story - Bedroom Max!

Hi folks,

You can now read my new short story Bedroom Max alongside a flattering introduction by Sue Jones over at Politics & Insights.

Sue writes incisive articles about the political misuses of psychology, human rights and welfare (among other things). She's well respected in psychologist circles, regularly appearing at seminars across the country for professional psychologists. If you're interested in cutting through the bullshit propaganda of our times, I'd encourage you to check out her articles.

All that's left to say is big thanks to Whitewolf and Topple, and an extra whopping thanks to Sue Jones over at Politics & Insights.

Enjoy!

My First Article for Scisco Media

Hi folks,

This is my first article for Scisco Media:

https://sciscomedia.co.uk/revolution-...

It would be great if you could set some time aside to read it and let me know your thoughts.

As indie/ small press authors, I think this is something we should be talking about quite a lot more because there's a wall between us and the wider audience and it's about to get smashed down.

I know I frequently come across like some anarchist nutjob who is completely detached from the real world. This is true. However, the paragraph under the sub header 'Safeguarding Free Expression' hopefully makes it clear that I want us all to be creatively free no matter what we choose to write about. This isn't just about me being able to write about how much of a cunt your boss is.

This distinction is an important one because this is about taking control of our own culture and doing exactly what we want rather than allow corporations to shape it for us.

I'll shut up.

Cheers!

I’ve Joined Scisco Media!

Hi folks,

I hope that your place in the Universe is treating you kindly.

I’m pleased to announce that I’m going to be joining Scisco Media which is an exciting, relatively new alternative media hub. You can find their website here:

https://sciscomedia.co.uk/

I will be working on their arts and culture section which is something I’ve been looking for for quite some time. I am already friends with a handful of contributors at Scisco and they are among the most talented, freethinking, compassionate and switched on writers I correspond with. I look forward to meeting the rest of the team in due course.

I will be aiming to write positively about culture and counterculture, safeguarding free expression, commenting on cultural events, encouraging people to pick up a pen or a paintbrush or an instrument, and will also be promoting alternative artists, writers, poets, musicians, filmmakers and other creative souls from across the world to help unite those people looking for alternatives and those people who are already creating it.

As people are abandoning traditional media in droves, these are exciting times for free expression. For too long our culture has been hijacked by the wrath of the free markets which has helped to dull people’s inherent creativity, making them accept that their role is to consume art rather than create it. With the rise of the internet I’m now confident that we can begin to create our own culture alongside our own media which can only strengthen movements for real change.

I will also continue to put out articles with my friends over at Consented. They will mostly be relating to anything other than arts and culture. I’ll have something up with them in the next couple of months.

I’ll keep you updated on all major developments. Meanwhile keep being thoroughly disobedient.

R.D

Spark Review by the Morning Star

Hi folks,

I’ve been on holiday and now I’m back to annoy you all.

The only news I have is that Spark was reviewed by the Morning Star and you can read it here:

http://www.morningstaronline.co.uk/a-...

They had both positive and negative things to say about the book which is dumptacular. Regardless; big thanks to the Morning Star for their exposure.

It’s uncool for authors to criticise reviews but I’m a regular gobshite. In fairness my only real gripe with this review is the comment on revolutionary literature and how Spark fits into it because I feel it misses the point entirely.

As the blurb tries to make clear: I write what I decided to term guerrilla fiction. I’ve stated in numerous places that I borrow from satire, transgressive fiction and black comedy as a means of getting something said about these times. Shit jobs, horrendous bosses, a political system that doesn’t serve us, loneliness, rebellion, poverty, drug use, escapology, criticising mediocrity… these are the recurring themes and you’ll find them all in Spark and everything else I write.

Or another way to put it is: think of a pissed off, politically-charged punk album in literary form and that’s what I aim for. As far as I’m concerned I don’t set out to write ‘revolutionary literature’. I wouldn’t even know what that is and would probably argue that most stuff getting called revolutionary literature isn’t the revolution I want so it’s just another way to divide us. My books are an anti-establishment alternative to what your workmate Derek in the canteen is reading. That’s all.

As Rupert Dreyfus the human being I loathe authority, I loathe neoliberalism and I want the obedient members of society to wake up a bit. But as Rupert Dreyfus the author I only ever set out to take entertaining swipes at this rotten system, the arse crack of the status quo and anything else which people of a certain mind-set will appreciate. Pure free expression. I’m not bound to the limitations of whatever revolutionary literature is supposed to be.

Feel free to let me know your thoughts. I’m off to give a copper grundy and hope it kicks off a revolution

A New Interview/ Book Review on The Canary with Rupert Dreyfus

Afternoon all.

I have a new interview/ book review on The Canary. This is a big deal because the website attracts the sorts of people who would be into what I'm about (left-wingers) and it gets something like a million unique visitors a month.

Here's the link:

http://www.thecanary.co/2016/08/19/ra...

One point is that Christopher Zinn should actually be Howard Zinn. I've let the journo know about that so it may get changed. My fault for not clarifying in the interview :-)

Feel free to bat some ideas at me on any of the discussion points so we can get this revolution underway!

Speak soon!

New Consented Article

Hi folks,

Here's my new article for my friends over at Consented:

http://www.consented.co.uk/read/as-pa...

It's about neoliberalism preventing democracy from happening and what we need to start thinking about in order to change things.

As always; feel free to discuss anything raised in the article or anything loosely related to it. I'm always up for nattering about these matters with friends and readers on here. Don't be shy: we need to organise and it starts through dialogue.

Meanwhile the paperback of Spark is very close to being released. Very soon I'll be collecting addresses off those people who I've promised a copy to. I'll also be firing out as many copies as I can afford through Goodreads give aways and the usual online harassment.

Chat soon.
