Anchored Hearts .99 for Kindle Friday and Saturday

I’m back writing and now it’s Ryan’s turn in Repairing Hearts, Book 2 in Surrendering Hearts. I can’t wait because I’m dropping a major secret. How to get there, well, that will keep me busy.
While you wait, I want everyone to have the opportunity to read Book 1, Jordyn’s story, in Anchored Hearts. I am so proud of this book.
The series premise is what if a family with a unique birth story stayed in the national spotlight due to tragedy? Each sextuplet gets their own story, and Jordyn is first. She’s used to managing her dad, siblings, and everything about her job. Then her life implodes when her dad remarries, her siblings go their own way, and she learns she’s co-hosting a morning show with Spencer Collins, someone with issues of his own. Can these two surrender their controlling ways and find a happier-ever-after?
.99 is a steal. Grab it now and please let your reader friends know. If you enjoy it, please leave a review. The more reviews a book receives, the more visible it will be on Amazon. Thanks so much!

Match Made in Heaven Free for Kindle Friday and Saturday

I remember writing this book when I was single, a new Christian, and not even 25 years old. Back in the day I worked with senior citizens and they often brought their grandsons, sons, and even a stranger to my office with their matchmaking attempts. I thought it would make a fun little story, but I shelved and forgot it after I got married and had kids.
In 2019 I had bronchitis and a sinus infection and I was miserable. Writing from scratch was impossible, I tried. However, I wanted to get something out there so readers would realize I was actually an author with something to market. I remembered this story and updated it. Beyond the matchmaking, I gave Beth a health issue she blamed God for. In my own fiction reading, I rarely see a heroine with a rare diagnosis. Beth’s thyroid condition mirrors what our daughter has.
I’ll be taking Match Made in Heaven beyond Amazon soon, and that means this is the last time I can promote it free for Kindle as a promotion. So grab it now and tell everyone you know who loves a sweet romance with a redemption thread.
The promotion starts Friday, September 2 at 3am Eastern and ends Saturday at 11:59pm Eastern. Be sure to double check price.

A Fallen Sparrow by Lynne Basham Tagawa

This month has been exhausting. But joyful!
The last installment of the Russells trilogy launched this month, and it has been a long road—starting with the first book in the series, The Shenandoah Road, set during the Great Awakening of the 1740s.
The events in A Fallen Sparrow take place during the American Revolution. What’s the relationship between a revival and a war?
As a result of the preaching of the revival, a Christian worldview shaped the thoughts and actions of Patriots and Loyalists alike, even those who were not actually Christians.
Americans were keenly aware of what they called “natural rights.” “We hold these truths to be self-evident …” says the Declaration of Independence. These are rights given to us by God, not man. These issues really mattered to the colonists.
In my story my characters wrestle over the issues relating to natural rights and what a Christian may do under tyranny. Is there a situation in which we may resist—biblically?
Excerpt:
She found herself standing near Jonathan, who was rolling his shoulders and blinking up at the sunshine.
“How d’ye bear it, all the redcoats about?” he asked.
Ruth glanced about the yard and surrounding streets. Three red uniforms dotted the small crowd that milled about, conversing.
“They are the King’s servants.” She didn’t want to argue.
His gaze seemed to drill into her. “Precisely.”
“We ought to give honor where honor is due.”
Jonathan adjusted his waistcoat, which fit him well, but he seemed uncomfortable in it even so. “I agree with that. I ken the scriptures.”
Somehow, his agreement needled her. “You can’t mean that every law and decision should be subject to your approval before you obey it?” Her voice emerged loud to her ears.
Aunt Betsy looked her way, lifting a brow.
“Not every decision is legitimate. Not every law is lawful,” he said.
This was the one point where Ruth stumbled. In theory, she knew he was right. But how—
“The King is subject to the law,” he said. “We see that in the Magna Carta.”
Mr. Shirley side-stepped closer.
“I know my history!” she hissed. Now she was angry. He was treating her like a child.
“Sir—” Mr. Shirley objected in an undertone.
They were creating a scene, but she didn’t care.
Jonathan stepped closer. “The Parliament is out of bounds—”
“Who are you—”
He kissed her. Soundly.
Someone clapped.
“Dinna act shocked,” he growled into her cap. He drew back and locked his gaze on hers. “Too many overheard you.”
The fog dispersed from her mind. Her lips tingling, she nodded.
He tucked her arm in his elbow. “A wee argument with your beau is all they’ll remember.”
Heat flooded her cheeks. “I’ll get you back for this, Jonathan Russell.”

Lynne Tagawa is a wife, mom, and grandma to five who loves coffee and chocolate. She especially loves including gospel truth in her historical fiction. She’s also written a Texas History curriculum, Sam Houston’s Republic, in narrative (story) form, because history is interesting and history books should be too!

A Harvest of Blessings by June Foster

A Harvest of Blessings: The Story Behind the Story
A Harvest of Blessing was inspired by a real life couple my husband and I met in Pensacola, Florida. Several years ago we were traveling and living in our RV full time. Since my husband is retired army, we generally stayed on military posts in their RV parks. This year we stayed at Pensacola Naval Air Station and attended the military chapel.
One Sunday we got to talking to a great couple and wound up going to lunch with them after church. Their story amazed me. They were both visiting the graves of their dead spouses when they met. They even pointed out the graveyard as we passed on the way to lunch.

Cupid went to work, and they eventually married. Their story has been on my mind for several years, and I finally got the chance to tell it in A Harvest of Blessing where my hero and heroine who’re in their mid fifties meet in a graveyard. But that’s where the similarity ends. I deviated from the real couple and made Nadia’s husband a jerk and Jared’s daughter an obstacle between the two of them.
In the story, Nadia’s son David is serving a tour of duty in Germany. I put him in Germany because my husband and I were there before he retired from the army. Wood carvings abound in the European country, and I thought it would be fun to have David bring one of the lovely pieces—like the one I own—back home for his mom. The real wood carving used to hang on my mom’s wall. Today it sits on a cabinet in my dining room.
The carving is special to me as it is the artist’s rendition of a loaf of bread and a chalice, an important element in Christianity—communion or the Lord’s Supper.
I loved writing A Harvest of Blessing as this is the first book I’ve penned where the characters are middle aged. I hope you’ll enjoy reading it as much as I enjoyed writing it.
After the death of her husband, Nadia Maguire never expects to meet handsome Jared Abrams in the cemetery where she visits her dead spouse’s grave. Though she falls for the handsome bank president, his daughter hurls a wedge between them. Will her life be a harvest of blessings or a season of drought?
When bank president Jared Abrams falls in love with one of his tellers, Jared’s daughter does everything in her power to keep them apart. Will he reap a harvest of blessings or a season of drought?

Life After Dallas

Nearly two years ago I shared that while back in my hometown caring for my mom, my sister, mom and I started re-watching Dallas, the Friday night soap opera that originally ran from 1978-91. I was probably a tween when I first started watching, and watched through most of my teen years. I loved the writing back then, and was invested in what would happen next. I even remember without knowing what an introvert was, that I said no to going to a party because I honestly wanted to be home to watch my show.
Fast forward and I finished the series. Every episode. Fourteen seasons. Sadly, mom passed away in January 2021 and one of the last things she talked about with my sister was when were they going to watch Dallas again? They both enjoyed the re-watch as much as I did. When I traveled back to NY throughout last year, binging Dallas eased our grief and stress. Once I returned home, I made a rule where i could only watch if I was exercising. I’ve logged a lot of miles on my recumbent bike!
It’s been interesting to watch as a 52 year old versus the 16 year old. Here’s what I walked away with.
Original watch: I loved Jock and Ellie.
Re-Watch: I couldn’t stand Jock and Ellie. Jock comes from the era where women were to be seen and not heard, and their purpose was to birth babies and make dinner. Ellie was such a strong character with a rich history and we don’t see that at all until Jock is gone. I was really surprised by the mad respect I had for Clayton. He was the consummate gentleman but he was no fool. I really liked his pairing better with Miss Ellie.
Original Watch: I loved Jenna Wade.
Re-Watch: I loved Pam. The author in me was so impressed that the writers, my guess is all or mostly male, created a character in Pam who worked full time and was a force in the business world. Bobby learned a bit of his father’s archaic thinking, so he would have preferred Pam be home. Ha. Not Pam. Even better, she was just as strong standing up to JR and her brother, Cliff. Her story went sideways a few times, but I gave her grace because of her first season. Once Victoria Principal left the show, it was never quite the same.
Original Watch: Bobby is everything.
Re-Watch: Patrick Duffy probably had the hardest job. As a teen, I swooned over Bobby like my mom probably did, LOL. He was the ultimate gentleman and do-gooder. He was a great foil for JR. This time around, I read an article that where I believe Larry Hagman said Patrick Duffy had the hardest job because as the ultimate good guy, that’s hard to portray. Given Bobby’s longevity on the show, that’s 13 years of doing the right thing. In the soap opera world, that gets old for an actor. Larry Hagman always had a new angle to explore with his constant conflicts and consequences. As an author, I found that interesting.
Original Watch: There’s nothing odd here.
Re-Watch: What are they doing???? There were a lot of things I picked up as an adult I completely missed as a younger person. Probably for the best. Ray started out as a ranch hand fooling around with the teenaged Ewing grand-daughter, Lucy. There’s the that’s illegal angle because Ray was clearly an adult and she is in high school. That would not fly on TV today. More than that, later on Ray learns he is a Ewing and poof, Ray is now a protective uncle to Lucy. No mention of their exploits because double ewwww.
Then there’s the episode where the Ewings are held captive in their home. I missed this the first time because I didn’t start watching until after JR was shot. I believe this was the original cliffhanger, at least that I was made aware of, and when the show started, I was eight. Bad enough I started watching around ten! Anyway, JR stepped out on SueEllen with some country girls and their men found out. The men travel to SouthFork for revenge. At one point they make SueEllen put on her bikini from when she was a beauty queen and sing. Oh, it was painful to watch.
Wes Parmalee. This is when I stopped watching the first time. Even back then I smelled a lousy plot and this was one. Jock Ewing had been dead for years but now this character shows up named Wes who might be Jock. He might not be. It went back and forth with even Miss Ellie believing he was, creating drama with her new husband, Clayton Farlow. Suddenly, Wes is gone. I read the viewers hated the storyline and made it loud and clear, so the writers axed the plot. Again, painful.
Also painful was the beautiful storyline between Ray and Donna where they lose their baby and consider adopting a child with special needs. It was heartwarming and so well done. Then Patrick Duffy decided to return to the show, and that meant Bobby needed to be alive. The famous shower scene happens, and every storyline is erased. That meant Ray and Donna never met the child. Those characters never recovered. Neither did I.
The last season. I personally think the show needed to end around the time SueEllen left. It had an amazing run and they were out of good ideas. Watching Bobby mope around the country grieving the loss of his new bride was excruciating. JR was a shell of who he used to be. Even Miss Ellie was gone. I did enjoy Cally, what a breath of fresh air she was. But the ending was disappointing, especially after a 14 year run. Like Seinfeld, I consider the second to last episode a true finale.
Next up I hope to find the reunion movie they did in 1996. I was a newlywed so that was never on my radar. Then, the 2014 series. I watched that as well and I remember overall being disappointed. It will be interesting to see if my opinions change.
So if you are Gen X and love nostalgia, this was an interesting project. I can think of a lot more productive uses of my time but I have no regrets. It was a time where Dallas connected my parents and my sister and I in the best of ways. I have great memories, and it really was fun to look back. JR had amazing one liners and faces that I don’t think anyone else could pull off as well as Larry Hagman did. Plus, I got good workouts in!

Pizza for a Good Cause

Growing up, there were a couple pizza franchises that you knew delivered a meal that was affordable, but that was about it. Well, decades later those same places have upped their game. The prices remain reasonable in this crazy economy, but the taste is amazing. Little Caesar’s is one of those franchises.
Even better is that Little Caesar’s offers fundraising opportunities. Our grandson participated earlier this year, and what we ordered was shipped to our house and was amazing. We feasted for real.
This year the youth group I help out with felt God wanted them to raise $10,000 for Speed the Light. STL is a ministry that provides transportation for missionaries across the nation and throughout 180 countries worldwide. Whether it be a bike, camel, or auto, monies youth groups give help missionaries take the gospel to the remotest of places.
Our group is near halfway there.
I created this fundraiser with my daughter as an easy way for our teens to share a link to their friends, neighbors, family members, even social media for people like you to order delicious Little Caesar products. Like I wrote, they are shipped to you and I can attest, it’s GOOD. You can prepare right away or store in your freezer. Most of all, your purchase helps missionaries receive needed transportation through Speed the Light.
It would mean a lot if you would check the link out and share with others. It would mean everything if you purchase. Youth ministry is my favorite age group, and Speed the Light is more important than ever.
Thank you!

Beryl’s Blessing by Edwina Kiernan

Frederick drew a deep, troubled breath as he ascended the steps of the church.
The past week had been a whirlwind as he and his father had completed the furnishing of the new house and procured a new staff. How strange it still was to think that in only a few hours he would travel there with his new wife to begin a daunting new chapter of his life.
It does not have to be daunting, he reminded himself. Perhaps she will be a pleasant young lady.
Perhaps, someday, we might even fall in love.
Yet as he advanced toward the altar, with each step forward, the oppressive weight of guilt bore down upon his shoulders.
He didn’t deserve love.
He didn’t deserve any of this — a wife, a house.
Life.
Drawing yet another deep breath, he came to a stand at the front of the church. His elder brother, Algernon, stood beside him — distant and sullen, as always. Though their father’s fortune was hardly a substantial one, Algernon would inherit the lot. Hence, the contracted marriage for Frederick — and the dowry that accompanied it.
Frederick cast a quick glance around the place. His parents sat smiling in the front pew nearest him, and his father nodded encouragingly to him upon catching his eye.
A few strangers occupied the front pew on the other side of the aisle. Two women — one who looked incredibly sour and serious, and a woman with a smug expression who seemed to thrill with delight every time she caught anyone looking in her direction.
His new wife’s family. The thought made him stiffen as the reality of the situation flooded his mind.
He was about to unite in permanent solemnity to an absolute stranger.
Guilt clawed at his heart. The people who had perished at his hand would never experience a wedding of their own.
His fingers twitched as he felt a longing in his chest for some liquor. His mouth was dry, his pulse racing. The air in the church seemed heavy and dense.
A creak behind him made him tuck his head down, his eyes widening in fear. An instinctive reaction to potential danger — one of the many foibles he had gained from his time on the battlefield.
Frederick glanced furtively around, hoping that no one had noticed his irrational behaviour. He swiftly regained his posture as he turned to face the back of the church. The thick, wooden doors were opening, and smaller creaks escaped into the air as they continued to move in their giant arc.
The strains of stringed instruments floated through the air as Frederick trembled and blinked, still recovering from his startle. Squeezing his eyes shut, he scolded himself inwardly.
Pull yourself together, man.
Upon opening his eyes, he saw a man with a pleasant smile nod to him as he strode up the aisle. Frederick half- nodded in return before his gaze travelled to the young lady at the man’s side.
All he could see from his vantage point was one elegant hand and arm. The smiling man obscured the rest of her.
A few moments later, he caught a brief glimpse of her face, and the orangey-brown curls framing it.
His heart picked up speed. She was prettier than he’d imagined.
The man still blocked most of her from sight, but as Frederick observed them as they drew closer to him, he noticed an unsteadiness in the young lady’s gait.
Compassion squeezed his heart. She must have injured herself somehow. He hoped she hadn’t tripped on the steps outside and twisted her ankle. He had almost stumbled on them himself, and his boots were much more forgiving than the delicate slips of shoes that ladies wore.
Instantly, the sneering voice in his head mocked him. Did those people die only so that you might ponder the advantages of your boots?
Apprehension drained through him. He swallowed hard, steeling his jaw.
He wished he could turn and bolt from the church, from all the people — from the towering commitment that he was here to make.
Yet, in his heart he knew — all too well — that one cannot run from one’s own mind, nor the memories that seize it.
The smiling man stepped back a little as he and the young lady reached the place where she would become Frederick’s wife.
Finally, she stood before him, unobscured and mere inches away. Brown guarded eyes darted a glance at Frederick, then quickly returned their gaze downward.
As candlelight illuminated his bride’s hair, it looked to be the colour of bright, warm flames, with a few darker strands intertwining here and there. The blend was a stunning display.
The lady was indeed a beauty.
As the clergyman began to speak, Frederick stole another glance at his bride, guilt plucking at his mind.
How much better a husband she deserves than a man with blood on his hands.
