Jayde talkes about Paradox – Progeny Of Innocence. Book 2 in the Paradox Series.

Did you have a favorite female character in book 2 and if so why?

My favorite character was Grace. I loved her in Book One because, even though she was young, she seemed clever beyond her years. I could feel right from the beginning that there was more to her than the eye let on. She conveyed mysteriousness, importance, and by the end of Book One I knew I was right about her being sweet and kind.

In Book Two, Grace is a teenager facing all the difficulties teenagers face such as finding out who they are and becoming comfortable with themselves and the attraction toward the opposite gender. But Grace has more on her plate than the usual teenager does because she's plagued by nightmares and memories she still doesn't understand. I really liked the strength she showed in the face of dangers and obstacles, and I rooted for her that she finds out who she really is.

Did you have a favorite male character in book 2 and if so why?

My favorite male character was Grace's love interest, Damon. In the beginning, I wasn't sure what his true intentions were (still am not quite sure but I have my suspicions), and I'm eagerly awaiting the next book to see whether I'm right about him. I think Damon is one of those characters that have various facets to them, so you really don't know what is going in his head, however, I find him irresistible and hope he's one of the good guys.

Who was another one of your favorite characters and why?

Grace's best friend, Angela, because she's easy-going with a positive attitude toward life, and she's also funny. I like characters that aren't afraid of making a fool of themselves.

Is there a particular evil character that you love to hate?

I thought all evil characters in Prodigy of Innocence had both good and bad sides to them. I, somehow, understood their intentions and why they acted the way they did, which is something I prefer in a book because it makes it so much more interesting and fascinating.

The author did a brilliant job at showing the characters' various layers and motivations. If I really, really were to choose one character, I'd go with Abaddon because I find his scheming to become Reign Supreme and the way he keeps everyone in the dark about his affair with Pandora absolutely brilliant.

What part of the book did you enjoy the most?  The Ancient world or The New World?

I was a fan of the Ancient world before and I still am. The balance was just right. The part I enjoyed the most was Grace's first kiss. Her emotions were palpable. I could feel how overwhelming it was for her to experience love again after losing the most important person in her life.

Who or What are you hoping to read more about in future books in the series?

I'd love to read more about Keyla because her background's fascinating (she belongs to an ancient race, the Bakhna Rakhna, who seem to deal with magic). She's quiet but with a mysterious flair to her that promises well-kept secrets that I suspect will be revealed in future books. Keyla's definitely one of my favorite characters.  Jayde Scott  5 stars.

What a way to start the New Year – I Want To Thank You!!!

A huge thank you to all those that have read and reviewed Paradox – Progeny Of Innocence.

I am always so very appreciative to those that read and review my books.   Take time from their precious day to let me know what they thought.  Thank you!  Your words are so incredibly inspirational.

Here is a little of what some readers had to say – that had me smiling this New Year.

Paradox – Progeny of Innocence

I had read "Paradox-The Angels are Here" and looked forward to reading the second in the series and Progeny of Innocence did not disappoint.

This book had such a captivating story woven intricately between the pages that this reader could not put down the story until its completion.

I enjoyed the richness of the characters and all the facades of their personalities. The characters come alive and you can picture each and every one of them with the descriptions the author gives.  All the questions I wondered about with the first book were answered.

In the book Juliette narrates and you learn how she was reborn repeatedly and finally settled in Grace. Grace doesn't recall all the details of her past lives though she doesn't sometimes get glimmers through dreams and impressions. She knows that she must recall the past when strange things start happening around her and a killer is loose. She is drawn to the new boy Damon and can't understand the instant attraction.

I also really enjoyed  the introduction of Keyla of The Bakhna Rakna who is fighting the bad angels on her own terms. I look forward to finding more about her and her fight and how she and possibly Grace will come together in the next book to save the world in the battle between the warring Angels.

I truly enjoyed this book and if you like paranormal books with intricate plots and a rich story you will too.

Patti Roberts weaves a wonderful tale of magick and love in her Paradox series. I was pulled in by an 11 year old Grace in the first book, The Angels are Here, who was shattered by the loss her father. Now she is a teen who must find a place in the human world to better understand the spirit world and how to deal with her visions of a young woman who comes from her own past life.

Through Patti, you get to travel into the supernatural as fallen angels hunt for Grace, and she begins her journey in the bloom of her life as a young woman getting to know a boy named Damon, all rolled up with learning her way with dealing with spirit.

Patti keeps you on the edge of your seat with a very real as you see these fallen angels through her writing and feel Grace's emotions as they come to life through her words. I didn't want to put this book down as I was pulled into Grace's world, and I gave this book 5 stars as a must read!!

I absolutely loved this book. when it first started i was confused by all of the explaining and detail on characters i thought were insignificant to the story line but when you jumped back to grace and everything started to play out i fell in love with this book as i did the first one. can not wait for book 3

Review by: Natshane on Jan. 01, 2012 : star star star star

An original and beautifully written story, Progeny of Innocence took the term 'rebirth' and 'souls' to a whole new level!

The series never failed to awe me with it's creativity, originality and vividness. Patti Roberts has a way with words and it left me breathless. I've read many kinds of books, encountered many kinds of mythical creatures and nail biting scenes, but Progeny of Innocence left me with such a deep impression because the writing was detailed and sophisticated. Trust me, Patti could definitely describe 'YA gore' and 'Viciousness'.

If you liked The Angels are here, then you will love Progeny of Innocence.

I adore the characters in the story, actually, it was more of I adore the 'souls' in the stories. It seems that every character in the story was an reincarnation of an old soul, and each of them played a vital part in the story. Each character was distinct and unique it was such a fun to read about them! And the evil characters portrayed was evil enough you could actually shudder.

But my favourite part of the book was actually the fighting scenes. Do you know the books where the fighting scenes were so dull you wonder what was the point of even building up the climax? Well, Progeny of Innocence was quite the opposite. I was scrolling down the pages faster than I could remember when it comes to an adrenaline junkie scene. The description was so graphical and such a rush!

Progeny of Innocence exceeded my expectations, and the cliffhanger made me ache for the third book. I can't wait to see what Patti has in stores!   Reviewed by,  Natasha Anne

This review is from: Paradox – Progeny Of Innocence (Kindle Edition)

This book was so hard to put down, it was SO good. It was even better than the first. I found that it explained some things that were left unanswered in the first, and I loved how it went more into detail in the past. I'm SO excited to read her next one!

Review by: Jayde Scott on Dec. 16, 2011 : star star star star star

I absolutely adored the first book of the Paradox series, The Angels Are Here, and naturally had to pick up the second one as soon as soon as it was available in the Amazon UK store.

Progeny of Innocence was an even more amazing, wicked read than The Angels Are Here.

The novel begins with a brief account of the background story and is narrated by Juliette. Juliette is an old soul reborn in the body of a young girl, Grace. In the first book, Grace was just a girl, now she's a 16-year-old teenager who's plagued by visions she doesn't understand even though she desperately tries to put the pieces of the puzzle together in order to find out who Juliette really was and what exactly happened to her world.  But soon things start to get strange and it's obvious there's a killer on the loose, though it's doubtable that he's human. I could feel the spark between Grace and Damon, though I'm not yet sure whether he's good or bad.

One of my favorite characters was Keyla, who is a secondary character and the bearer of magic of the ancient race, Bakhna Rakhna. There was some sort of mystery surrounding her and I can't wait to find out what her story and role is in the ancient battle between the angel houses.

All in all, this was such an amazing, well-written read I thoroughly enjoyed and can only recommend. I'm astounded by the writer's imagination, the rich writing and beautiful prose as well as the intrinsic plot.

If you're hesitating, get the sample first. I'm pretty sure you won't be able to put it down.

Review by: Booketta on Dec. 15, 2011 : star star star star

This is a series to watch (and read)! I enjoyed the first book which set the scene, introduced the characters and gave us an introduction to the two worlds that Grace sees.

This book is even better and the story really takes off. We are given an understanding of some of the central characters who featured in the first instalment. There is a real presence of evil at work, with the blackest of characters you could find. There some new characters introduced and it soon becomes apparent whose side they are on.

Very descriptive writing which really draws you in to the plot. I cannot wait for more. My interview with the brilliant Patti Roberts can be read here.

Review by: Tea on Dec. 09, 2011 : star star star star star

Firstly, I should say that the attention to detail in this book is every bit as good as in the first.

Roberts clearly hasn't forgotten what made Angela so interesting to her readers, and she definitely provides some comic relief when needed, even when she's clearly not trying to.

Roberts really has a gift for keeping the story flowing nicely, and giving enough away to keep the reader in the loop, whilst they're still hanging on to find exact details.

For anyone who hasn't read the first book, both books are available in a double pack special edition now, and I'd totally recommend that to them. However, if you have read the first book, I'd totally recommend this – I really enjoyed it.

Review by: Megan R on Dec. 03, 2011 : star star star star star

The Paradox Series continues in Progeny of Innocence. The second book in the young adult series by Patti Roberts takes off where the first book left off.

The ancient world is in the middle of an all out war. The fallen angels, the Grigorians, are fighting their angel brethren, the Burgardians, and things are only getting worse. Chaos is still rampant under Grigorian Lord Cerberus', house; however he is last to notice as his wife, Pandora, and his brother Abaddon scheme against him.

The Grigorians are keen on a triumphant victory even if that means sacrificing whoever gets in their way.

Meanwhile, Temulun and Bakari, must help the strange newcomer, Keyla, discover her heritage and master her abilities. The young girl might be the only way they can put an end to the Grigorians once and for all.

In modern day Australia, Grace has grown into a shy, quiet teenager who is about to turn 17.  Grace tries to hold it together and keep up the appearance of being a normal teenager but she feels anything but. Her visions have only continued to get worse and she's still not quite sure what they mean.

Grace is also anxious to meet the right person and fall in love and the dashingly handsome Damon Draco seems like her prince charming. Sure, she has an odd flashback when she first meets him, but she is inexplicably drawn to him. For once in a long time, things are starting to look up. That is, until some of her neighbors and classmates begin to go missing; their bodies to be found later, mauled and mangled by what looks to be a vicious animal.

It is only a matter of time before the Grigorians catch up to Grace, but how long can she manage to hide if she doesn't even realize she's being hunted?

I enjoy this series mainly because it is a fresh take on the idea of angels and good versus evil. The plotline is very unique in that it's never been done before and yet it works so well.

Progeny of Innocence delves deeper into the ancient world and the lives of the Grigorian royal family. Roberts truly has a gift for writing that is evident from page one. I love it when can you read what an author's written and you almost feel like you're being transported to another world just by reading the words on a page.

There are a number of new characters introduced in the second book, including more Grigorians who are getting closer to finding Grace on earth during modern day. We're also introduced to Bakari, Temulun and Keyla. A trio who I have a feeling will play an intricate part for the battle for good in the future. Keyla is part of an ancient race of people called the Bakhna Rakhna who were almost killed off during The Great War. There are also some implications that Keyla can use magic, a skill that I am sure will be useful in the near future.

There is more attention on the secondary characters; including Angela, who along with Grace, is one of my favorite characters. Angela's wit tends to add comedic relief to the storyline even if she doesn't intend to.

Damon also caught my interest. I'm not entirely sure about his motives yet, but he seems to genuinely like Grace. I have a feeling that he and Grace's relationship will face some bumps further down the road especially as Grace begins to learn about who and what she is.

Some of my suspicions about Wade and a few of the other characters are also confirmed in the second book but I don't want to give too much away. I really liked how Roberts handled his character. Too often I've read stories where the same situation didn't work so well. I'm purposefully being vague since I'm trying really hard not to spoil the book.

Progeny of Innocence also has a lot more action and suspense than the first book. Between the "wild animals" that are attacking Grace's friends and a number of showdowns between the angels, there's enough suspense to keep you on the edge of your seat and anxious to find out what will happen next.

In the third book, I think Grace will finally discover her purpose to the angels and their world and I plan on being there for the ride.  Megan.

So, If someone was to ask me what the highlight of my New Year was….  well, I think I have just answered that question.

To all my readers, Thank you.  I look forward to writing the next installment of the Paradox Series this year.  Patti Roberts.

And Now For Something Completely Different… David Oxley!

David Oxley's life seems to be going from bad to worse.  He's divorced, lives in a share house with the landlady from hell and his boring dead-end job is literally driving him around the bend…

Then, after a young girl goes missing in the dead of night and chance encounter in a rundown café early the next morning with a blond woman called Tracey, everything changes…

On the road, you never know who you're going to meet!

David Oxley has a pretty uneventful life really.

It isn't a bad life, all things considered.  Things could most certainly have been a hell of a lot worse if David chose to think about it.  And he did, often, but it never got him anywhere.

Dave's a healthy forty-year-old guy with a weakness for potato chips and a glass, or two, of red wine – a beer on a hot day.  So, to combat such vices, David swims lengths at the public pool and works out at the gym a few days during the week – time permitting.  On Monday nights, he goes into the city to learn how to dance – Gene Kelly style.  None of that dirty dancing that Patrick Swayze made so popular in the eighties.  On the weekend, he picks up an old guitar, has a couple of beers and sings away until the neighbourhood dogs join in or his house mate starts banging on his bedroom wall.  As much as he would like to be as talented as rocker Jon Bon Jovi… he most certainly was not!

He has a job that most would think was boring – selling par baked bread products, and generally; that assumption would be correct.  Yes, I know what you're thinking… 'And I thought my job was boring…'  No arguments there on either account.  Maybe your job is boring… but enough about your problems; we can talk about that another time.  Right now it's about David and his enthralling world of par baked bread.  You would be surprised at how many people complain about the size of a bread roll.  I know.  It's mental, right.  However, some days even a complaint about size, get your mind out of the gutter, can be seen as a welcomed change of pace to Dave's otherwise soul destroying daily routine.

He has an ex-wife you know, Laura, and two great kids, Ben and Sarah.  Well not really kids, young adult I believe the preferred term is.  Ahh, to be twenty again and know what we know now.  Wouldn't that be nice?

Anyway, let's not dwell on things we cannot change.  As much as we would all like to turn back the hands of time; it isn't going to happen.  And believe me when I tell you, that I have tried.

David resides in a basic run-of-the-mill three bedroom house in the suburbs that he shares with the landlady, Bess.

Bess is a funny old thing with her own set of peculiarities.   For instance, everything has to be switched off at the wall at night.  Kettle, toaster, microwave, television…  You name it.  The refrigerator is the exception to this rule.  Dishcloths have to be spread out, not folded on the kitchen sink.  No dirty dishes left in the sink and the cleaned dishes are to be put away immediately.

When water restrictions were in full swing, Bess has been known to stand outside the bathroom door with her arms folded across her ample bosom and her eye trained on the clock.  A sharp rapping on the door was to formally notify you that your three minutes were up.  Water off!

The lawn has to cut a particular way… not too long, not too short.  And the lawnmower catcher, well don't get me started on that.

All the windows have to be kept locked, even though each and everyone is fitted with security screens to keep out any would-be burglars'.

With all these rules and routines you could easily be lead to believe that Bess is a bit of a fusspot, a perfectionist.  But with all of Bess's perfectly orchestrated procedures & routines, Bess does in fact have a flaw.

She leaves floaters in the dunny!  Yes you heard me right.  Bess.  Leaves. Floaters. In. The. Dunny.

Dave can't count on two hands the number of times that he's gone into the loo to find a chocolate coloured water python coiled in the porcelain pond staring back up at him.  And on a hot day…with all the windows locked… one whiff of that and you're a glutton!

Dave put up with that for two years, the floaters, before he eventually told Bess to 'look before you leave'.  And even then he wouldn't have said anything if wasn't for Bess telling him off for leaving a clean coffee cup in the drip tray overnight.

Why does he put up with it you ask?  It's cheap, it's clean (apart from the occasional porcelain python), it's close to his work, his kids, and everything was supplied.  All he had to do was supply his own bed linen, towel and food.

Dave drives a company car, a Mitsubishi station wagon.  And he is glad about that; it's one less expense that he has to worry about.

There are two things Dave misses more than anything in the world since the divorce from his ex-wife Laura a few years back.  Not the house, not the car, not even the widescreen television that he had only just bought before Laura spat the dummy and tossed him out.   He missed spending precious time with his kids…  Sorry, young adults, and Bruce Springsteen, the family pet Alsatian.

Then there's David's best mate, Patrick Madigan, a Detective for Queensland's fraud control.  A good-looking charismatic fellow with a body to die for and a singing voice that actually does sound a lot like Jon Bon Jovi, who went missing about three years ago.  Patrick, not Jon.  And who just happens to be, me.

Oh, and one other little detail that you should probably know.  I'm dead.  But more about that annoying little predicament a bit later.

So, you get the picture, life is pretty ho-hum for our David on any given day.

Then out of the blue, during a run-of-the-mill sales trip to Darwin in the Northern Territory, David's uneventful life took an unexpected turn when he offered a ride to Tracey, a pretty young blond woman he met in a corner café early one morning.

1 – The Flying Horseman

The night before.

A piercing scream rang out into the dark, starless night, awaking David Oxley.  He wiped the beads of sweat from his forehead with the back of his hand and cursed the stifling temperature and the useless box air-conditioning groaning in the wall.

The suffocating humidity was typical during this time of the year in the Northern Territory that was aptly named – 'Troppo Season'.

Every living creature, man and beast alike, lay in wait for the heavens to crack open and unleash their much-anticipated bounty, rain.  The powdery earth below gagged for just a spit of moisture to quench its cracked, parched crust.

David sat up on the still-made bed dressed in a pair of white cotton boxer shorts, a recent father's day gift from his daughter Sarah.  His mind was foggy, vague from another restless night's sleep, a by-product of the seething humidity.

He looked at the bedside table. One empty wine glass, a Citizen wristwatch and a worn 1947 paperback novel he had been reading by James Hilton titled A Double Life that was coming apart at the spine.  Three AM glowed fluorescent green on the face of the built-in clock. He cursed again, this time at the hour as he rubbed his face in his hands; oblivious to what had woken him.

Another scream and the sound of running feet on the loose gravel outside his motel room woke him up completely this time. He quickly snatched a black sleeveless t-shirt up off his bed and pulled it over his head; it was inside out; it didn't matter.  He swung his long legs off the edge of the bed, cursing again as he knocked over the half-empty bottle of red wine that he had been drinking before dozing off sometime around midnight.  The pool of Merlot merged with the previous stains on the blotchy carpet, making it impossible to determine the new stain from the old.  Something to be grateful for he decided; the owner of the place would have only been too happy to add carpet cleaning to his bill.  He cringed as a big, black cockroach scurried across his foot and disappeared into the darkness under his bed.  He didn't want to know how many others were scurrying around under there gleefully.

He reached the door, unlocked it and ran out into the night. Dark clouds hung heavy in the air, threatening to burst at any moment.  Frogs croaked noisily, excited by the pending rain.  A flash of lightning lit up the sky.  He could smell an exhilarating freshness in the air, the scent that preceded rainfall.  He sucked in a long, deep breath and filled his lungs with it.

That's when he saw her, Maggie; the ageing manageress of the motel complex, The Flying Horseman, sitting sprawled out in her floral nightgown on the half-dirt-half-gravel driveway in front of his motel room.

The years had not been kind to her.  Deep wrinkles creased her tanned leathery skin.  She was struggling in a battle against gravity to get back on her feet.  Her rotundas body wasn't making the task any easier for her.

David reached down to help.  "Are you ok?  Here, let me help you -"

"Bastard!"  She spat in her stale coffee-coated breath when she eventually stood.  Her marshmallow feet were crammed tight into a pair of equally pink, I've-seen-better-days, slippers.  The ones with the woollen fleecy trim that kept your feet warm in the winter.  David's own feet began to sweat just looking at them.

"Hey, I was just trying to give you a hand."  David said indignantly as he took a step back and dumped his hands on his hips to glare at the ungrateful old woman.  Sour old cow, he muttered just as another grumble of thunder rumbled overhead.

She looked up at him as she dusted dirt off her nightgown. "Not you, you fool, the bastard that pushed me over just now, one of Tiffany's friends. I knew that girl was trouble the first time I laid my eyes on her.  She's always coming and going at all hours of the night. Didn't you hear her scream just now? Scared the friggin bejesus out of me she did."  Maggie continued to grumble as she headed off like a bull at a gate towards Tiffany's ground floor room toward the end of the brick two-story complex.  She waived her arms around above her head like she was waving away an angry swarm of bees.   "Always late with her rent, and I can do without that headache.  I've got bills to pay too you know."

David fell in silently at a safe arms-length distance alongside Maggie.  No need to upset the old broad any further he figured.  Not that she would have heard he had said anyway.  He could hardly hear himself think over the hullabaloo she was making.  He glanced around, expecting to see the lights in other patrons room flicker on, but none did.  Probably didn't want to get involved. He was starting to think that they were the smart ones.

You wouldn't want to get on the wrong side of Maggie; David decided making a mental note.  As angry as a rabid dog would be the perfect way to describe Maggie's current state.  Probably pissed off from years of being pushed around and abused by arsehole ex-boyfriends and ex-husbands David thought wearily.  That or she was angry about being interrupted from the late night movie she had been watching on television.

He stole a sideways glance at Maggie as they strode closer to the end of the motel complex towards Tiffany's room and decided that Maggie had probably been a beauty, once.  He could kind of see a fleeting evidence of it there on her round face.  A beauty that had long since been swallowed up by the deep crevices drawn in her leathery skin.  The culmination of long hours sunbathing in her teens, before melanoma had become a household word.  Alcohol and cigarettes had contributed too over the years no doubt.  And then came the bingeing on fatty junk food in front of the TV when youth and all hope of something better was eventfully lost.  Suddenly David's own life didn't seem so bad.

Then he also noticed something else about Maggie, and he couldn't help but feel a slight twinge of respect for the woman.  Maggie was neither upset nor scared by the ordeal that had just befallen her like most women would have been.

He didn't realise how correct his assumptions were about the ex's and the interrupted late night movie.

David had a God-given talent of being able to read people, well most people.  It had certainly been an asset in his line of work as a salesman over the years; however, no such talent was evident with his dealings with women.

Years spent on the road as a travelling salesman had taught him how to finetune his sales skills, not his husband skills, not as far as his ex-wife Laura was concerned.

After spending just five minutes with potential customers David could usually tell if he was wasting his time with them.  And time was money.  And David didn't have enough of either.  Not since the divorce five years ago when Laura, his bottomless money-pit ex had taken him to the cleaners.  She had ended up with everything including the two kids, the house, the car and Bruce Springsteen, the family dog.

His old guitar, a garbage bag full of his clothes, and a bread box with a handful of belongings had been left on the doorstep of his ex-house by his ex-wife waiting for pick-up.

David wasn't great at reading women, not where his heart was concerned.

David turned his attention back to Maggie just as another flash of lightning lit the night sky.  The heavily pregnant clouds burst open, dumping torrents of rain on the dry powdery ground below, forming muddy puddles instantly.  By the time they reached Tiffany's room they were both drenched from head to toe.

Maggie's nightgown had become completely transparent and clung to her round form. Thank God she's wearing underwear, David thought and cringed nervously.  A naked Maggie was not a sight he wished to behold on this night, or any other.  He wiped his hand over his eyes and pinched the bridge of his nose, thankful for the respectable coverage provided by big-girl pants.

5.0 out of 5 stars Couldn't put it down. By JDS (London (UK))

Jane's review
This is a series to watch (and read)! I enjoyed the first book (The Angels Are Here) which set the scene, introduced the characters and gave us an introduction to the two worlds that Grace sees. This book (Progeny Of Innocence) is even better and the story really takes off.

Jane's Q & A -Favorite character- I like Grace but I also like Angela, I'm going to have to say both of them. I like Grace's character because off the complexity having to deal with the different worlds/ times she has lived and with growing up as a teenager. Angela is so straightforward, everything is black and white, I just love her.

Who was your second favorite character and why? I like Damon Draco because although he 'appears' to be on the wrong side, there does appear to be some good in him. I'm not convinced that he is really a Grigorian.

Is there a particular evil character that you love to hate?  Theria – I think she is truly evil and dangerous. A very nasty piece of work.

What part of the book did you enjoy the most? The Ancient world or The New World? I like the New World with Grace living the here and now.

What characters did you like the least?  Tony and Eric, I know they had been turned but they were obnoxious anyway.

Who or What are you hoping to read more about in future books in the series? I'd like to see Grace/Juliette develop, what will happen with her and Damon. Also where Riley fits in to the relationship. How the worlds all fit together and interrelate. And of course I want good to overcome evil….  Jane.

The Reading List  Megan's Q & A

Did you have a favorite character and if so why?

My favorite character is probably Grace. She's progressed a lot in the second book. She's lost a lot of her child-like naivety and is slowly coming to terms with the fact that she is having visions and trying to understand what those visions mean.

Who was your second favorite character and why?

I can't decide between Angela and Damon. I want to learn more about Angela and her presence in Grace's life. She and Grace are close friends but I also get the feeling that Angela is protecting Grace. I really like Damon as well. He's Grigorian, but there's something about him that's different from the others. It's obvious that he genuinely cares about Grace and has a connection with Juliette.

What part of the book did you enjoy the most? The Ancient world or The New World?

The Ancient world is very magical and mysterious, but the New World isn't without its sense of mystery. Since they tie in so closely it's hard for me to pick just one. Despite the war, it seems like a breathtakingly beautiful place.

What parts of the storyline or characters did you like the least?

When the book was over… I wanted to read more!

Who or What are you hoping to read more about in future books in the series?

I am looking forward to learning more about Keyla, Temulun and Bakari and their role in the fight against the Grigorians. The ending was such a cliffhanger! I can't wait to find out how Damon and Juliette know each other.

Megan's review:

Dec 2011

The Paradox Series continues in Progeny of Innocence. The second book in the young adult series by Patti Roberts takes off where the first book left off. The ancient world is in the middle of an all out war. The fallen angels, the Grigorians, are fighting their angel brethren, the Bulguardians, and things are only getting worse. Chaos is still rampant under Grigorian Lord Cerberus', house; however he is last to notice as his wife, Pandora, and his brother Abaddon scheme against him.

Meanwhile, Temulun and Bakari, a servant and a guard in the royal house, must help the strange newcomer, Keyla, discover her heritage and master her abilities. The young girl might be the only way they can put an end to the Grigorians once and for all.

In modern day Australia, Grace has grown into a shy, quiet teenager who is about to turn 17. Her father's death still weighs heavily on her mind and she struggles with it almost every day.

Another thing that I enjoyed about this novel was Grace's relationships with the other characters; Wade, Zach and Angela in particular. There are a number of scenes between Grace and Wade that are so adorable and also remind me of the some kind of close relationship that Grace had with her father, Brian. Although he can never replace her father, Wade has become a vital part of Grace's life.

The intricate way in which the author has created and connected these two worlds is beautiful.

Paradox – Special Edition

Two books in one

A journey crossing Two Worlds. One Ancient – One New.

How do the heartbreaking visions experienced by a little girl fit into this Ancient World of Angels, Myth & Legend?

The Angels Are Here (Book 1)

The Ancient World… still reeling from the ravages of a War that still threatens the lives of millions. A World where powerful Beings from Ancient Civilizations still rule. A Realm Where Gods, Angels, Myths and Magic still exists.

The New World

A little girl's world is turned upside down by a visitor, the Angel of Death. She finds herself trapped in a nightmare, consumed by her paralyzing loss and overwhelming grief. The haunting visions and untimely deaths of others are a constant reminder that life and death are only a heartbeat away.

Progeny Of Innocence (Book 2)

Here you will see the return of Abaddon and a host of his most evil consorts… More of the Ancient World and its mythical inhabitants…

Juliette continues to narrate the story from where Paradox – The Angels Are Here, left off…. Grace is not a little girl anymore! And as a teenager, Grace's visions become more frequent, urgent, torturing her life further still. The answers she hopes to find in her visions only leave her asking more questions… Who is Juliette?

When the charismatic Damon Draco begins to take an interest in Grace, it doesn't take long before Grace falls for his alluring charm. A charm she doesn't quite understand.

However, when Riley Rivers turns up in Grace's class one day, she starts to question the feelings she has for Damon.

Then death comes knocking…and when three of Grace's school friends are found burned to death, and their parents die in a fatal car accident that same weekend, some start to wonder if it really was just a coincidence, or a contrived plan to wipe out an entire family?

And if so, why, and by whom? And more importantly, will evil strike again?

It's not very often that I read a book that brings me to tears but I outright bawled on this one.

The Angels Are Here was so beautifully written. I was drawn in and hooked from the first page. Patti Roberts takes her characters and brings them to life for you. It's not very often that I read a book that brings me to tears but I outright bawled on this one. You feel connected to the characters; you feel their pain, their sorrow, and their peace.

I give this book 5 Ravens and I truly can't wait to read more!  Maegan

Progeny Of Innocence (Bk 2) First Review – 5 stars – In the battle against good and evil, nothing is as it seems…

The Grigorians are keen on a triumphant victory even if that means sacrificing whoever gets in their way.Meanwhile, Temulun and Bakari, a servant and a guard in the royal house, must help the strange newcomer, Keyla, discover her heritage and master her abilities. The young girl might be the only way they can put an end to the Grigorians once and for all.

In modern day Australia, Grace has grown into a shy, quiet teenager who is about to turn 17. Her father's death still weighs heavily on her mind and she struggles with it almost every day. Grace tries to hold it together and keep up the appearance of being a normal teenager but she feels anything but. Sure, she has an odd flashback when she first meets him, but she is inexplicably drawn to him. For once in a long time, things are starting to look up. That is, until some of her neighbors and classmates begin to go missing; their bodies to be found later, mauled and mangled by what looks to be a vicious animal.
It is only a matter of time before the Grigorians catch up to Grace, but how long can she manage to hide if she doesn't even realize she's being hunted?I enjoy this series mainly because it is a fresh take on the idea of angels and good versus evil.

I'm purposefully being vague since I'm trying really hard not to spoil the book.Another thing that I enjoyed about this novel was Grace's relationships with the other characters; Wade, Zach and Angela in particular. There are a number of scenes between Grace and Wade that are so adorable and also remind me of the some kind of close relationship that Grace had with her father, Brian.  Although he can never replace her father, Wade has become a vital part of Grace's life.

Zach plays the role of goofy but protective sibling well, but unlike siblings, he and Grace get a long a lot better than I ever did with my brother when we still lived under the same roof. Like Wade and Angela, Zach is also at the Connors to protect Grace and Kate. Also like Wade and Angela, Zach isn't completely human.

Angela has also become a close friend to Grace and they are almost like sisters. Grace doesn't hesitate to seek Angela's advice, particularly when it comes to boys.

Progeny of Innocence also has a lot more action and suspense than the first book. Between the "wild animals" that are attacking Grace's friends and a number of showdowns between the angels, there's enough suspense to keep you on the edge of your seat and anxious to find out what will happen next.

Grace has done a lot of growing up both physically and mentally by the end of the the second book. She's lost a lot of the naviety that she held onto in Paradox:The Angels Are Here; both through her father's death and her interactions with the angels. She quickly has to come to terms with the rapid changes occuring in her life and she isn't so sure what to make of everything just yet.

In the third book, I think Grace will finally discover her purpose to the angels and their world and I plan on being there for the ride.

First Review – 5 stars – In the battle against good and evil, nothing is as it seems…

Grace tries to hold it together and keep up the appearance of being a normal teenager but she feels anything but. Her visions have only continued to get worse and she's still not quite sure what they mean.

Some things in her life have been going well. Wade is still seeing her mother, and the Connors have taken in Zach, an orphan who quickly becomes like a brother to Grace.
