Excerpt from Bound By Blood – Book 3 in the Paradox Series (Oct 28 release)
For a few precious moments, as though frozen in time, we appeared to float, suspended by an invisible thread from the heavens. All at once my hearing became amplified, allowing me to hear the most miniscule of sounds all around me – a twang, the flutter of a bird’s wing in flight, a sizzling disturbance in the air currents. Grace’s breath – a thud, the cracking sound of bones being broken. Then the hissing sound of air escaping from a punctured lung as one of Holly’s arrows tore through the ribcage of the ravenous beast.
A gush of putrid smelling blood and saliva spewed from between the animal’s fangs as it opened its mouth and exhaled one last breath. Then its lifeless body, contorted by death, crashed to the rocky outcrop below.
A bolt of lightening streaked across the sky, severing the invisible thread that kept us suspended, and we start to fall. I am alarmed at how fast the earth below is rushing up to greet us… I turn to look at Damon, searching for answers, but he just smiles, unaffected by our foreseeable death on the rocks below.
For I see now, with absolute certainty, that we have not jumped far enough out from the cliff face. The white sandy beach, which would have cushioned our fall, is still too far away to offer us any refuge from our pending fate.
Was I wrong to put my trust in Damon? Was this his plan all along, to sacrifice Grace’s life in a bid to take me from this place?
Grace, sensing our looming predicament, inhaled a sharp breath then screamed, blocking out the sounds from the thunderous claps of thunder and the smashing waves that are crashing violently all around us – just Grace’s scream, exploding in my mind and the sensation of the salty damp air on my skin as we plummeted earthward… toward a certain death – Grace’s death.

Ella's Book Review:
I do not remember when I have been more spellbound by a fantasy book before.
I thought 'The Angels Are Here' was good, but not quite fully cooked. With Progeny of InnocencePatti Roberts is just showing off. This book delivers on so many levels.
There is so much emotion in this story, so many human traits – the good (love, friendship, bravery and boldness) and the shameful (lust, egotism, self-indulgence, viciousness) all thrown together. But you can never misinterpret the true colour of a person. That weaker characterisation I saw in Book 1 here and there has gone completely.
Patti Roberts has grown up. Her writing skills rival some of the very big names out there and I would be surprised if awareness of her talent doesn't sky-rocket within a few short months.
'The Angles Are Here' was a sweet little introduction to a fantasy world that might or might not be real. With 'Progeny Of Innocence' we have no choice but to believe. It's not a fantasy anymore, it is a certainty.
'It is a shame,' Patti says, 'that real life events very rarely portray the grandiose victories personified in fiction'. Because we know, we feel that undercurrent to all of our lives. We've always suspected there is more to this inconsequential human existence and Patti Roberts makes it easy to imagine what this might be.
The WAFEs slowly awake and remember, and the guardians pull together. Sparks are flying and you find yourself gnawing on your nails with increased anxiety. The good and the evil dance around each other in ever-decreasing circles until you shiver with the imminence of the epic battle you can see will be unleashed in the very near future.
There is a YA tinge to most of the second half of the novel, but it is nicely done and the adult world weaves through it skilfully. There are stories within the story, and again they do not detract, but expertly add to the texture and depth of the main plot.
We see heavy symbolism and original threads too, and a little Shakespearean conflict between the two obvious enemies: Damon, in body, hangs out with the Grigorians but his heart and spirit have long belonged to Juliette.
I must make a special mention. Often debut authors are so eager to get on with their story that they don't spend enough time getting to know their own world, and that shows. Sometimes, they are lucky enough to be able to develop it in an acceptable manner in a sequel, and sometimes it is just so seriously underdeveloped, it is jarring. This is not the case here. Patti Roberts is so comfortable with her creation that it leaves no questions unanswered. You can see the prisoners being dragged in, you can see the forest and its people, you can understand the relationships between the six ancient races and feel their resistance to Grigorian rule.
Paradox is not a story in a place – it is the legend of a whole world.
As far as I am concerned, I don't know how Patti's writing could be improved upon. I'm waiting for the third book in the series and will be counting the weeks to its release. And there is a very strong chance that I might be tempted to sneak back to the Paradox blog page to get my fix and check for news here http://theangelsarehere.wordpress.com/readers-questions-answered/

REVIEW: The Angels Are Here, by Patti Roberts
'A world where there are more questions than answers' – Patti Roberts writes. A warning to her readers. Or it may be a challenge, a test.
Book one of the Paradox Series, 'The Angels Are Here' is an introduction to a world where mortals and supernatural beings coexist, some consciously aware of each other, and most – completely oblivious.
Soon after the opening scene of death and destruction in Altair, the Imperial City, we are introduced to a special child, Grace.

Book Review on amazon: 5.0 out of 5 stars Amazing.
By Shannon
This review is from: Paradox – Progeny Of Innocence (BK 2 in the Paradox Series – Kindle Edition)
This book was so hard to put down, it [Progeny Of Innocence] was SO good. It was even better than the first. I found that it explained some things that were left unanswered in the first [The Angels Are Here], and I loved how it went more into detail in the past. I’m SO excited to read her next one [Bound By Blood]!
Did you have a favorite female character in book 2 and if so why?
My favorite was, by FAR, Angela because she was so… almost adorable and fun.
Did you have a favorite male character in book 2 and if so why?
I’d have to say that Riley is my favorite character in Book 2 because he was so into Grace and he was such a gentleman.
Who was your 3rd favorite character and why?
My next favorite character would have to be Grace because she was so strong through all of the crazy events she had to deal with and she handled the whole predicament with Eric so well.
Is there a particular evil character that you love to hate?
THERIA
What are your thoughts on the Ancient world?
I think it sounds very interesting. You really went all out in this book
And your thoughts on the New world?
The new world was just like the modern teen world. I think you captured a teen’s life very well.
Who or What are you hoping to read more about in future books in the series?
I’m SO excited to hear more about Damien and Juliette! Total cliff-hanger at the end!! I want to read the next one SO bad

Did I say something earlier about what most people could only HOPE to dream of???? Well, I won't be back from what I call "Patti's World" any time soon. Book two was all I could've hoped for and more. I want to be one of Patti's Angels! I don't have one single regret from doing nothing but reading Paradox; Progeny of Innocence for the past two days! Awesome writing Patti Roberts! I will be bothering you endlessly for the release date of book three…

Review by: Natalie Hillier on Jan. 2012 : 5 stars I am absolutely over the moon excited to be sharing my review for this new book in Patti's Paradox Series. Progeny of Innocence is probably the best book to start off your New Year with I kid you not. If you read my review for the first book you will know how much I loved it, but, I love the second book even more and I know you will too. As the book opens we get a much more detailed and in depth feel for the evil Grigorians, the characters she has created are like nothing I have seen so far, for "The Bad Guys" characters even though they are evil, you just want to like them sometimes, Abandon is my favorite of them so far, I mean come on now who doesn't love a bad guy now and again and with his yellow eyes oh yummy yummy, he can look at me any day *blushing* and his brother Lord Cerberus who reins is very much oblivious to the fact that his own wife Pandora and his flesh and blood brother Abandon are in a scheme of their own together to get rid of Cerberus. The fallen angels (Grigorians) are fighting at any cost against any that get in the way, against the Burgardians. Every time I read another book from Patti her imagination amazes me and the worlds and characters she has created are one of the most original stories I have had the privilege to read, as she introduces new characters the story evolves, Temulun, a servant and Bakari, a guard in the royal house are trying to help Keyla a newcomer, to discover the heritage, an ancient race of people called the Bakhna Rakhna, and abilities she has in hopes they can finally put an end to the Grigorians. As the story continues to the present time, we catch up with Grace, Angela, Wade *sighs* oh Wade, ahem excuse me all for drooling over Wade Kate (Grace's Mom) and a few new friends have been introduced Joshua and Zach, and Damon. So I have to stop there and tell you all, *giggles* Patti has honored me with naming a character in her book after me, I am none other than Wade's *sigh* wife, yup I am the big handsome hunky yummy Aussie's wife, now if you go onto Patti's website she has pics there of possible actors if her books ever get turned into a movie, O…M…G I am one lucky wife if that's who she gets to play Wade *sighs while drooling* thank you Patti
that was my birthday present, how rockin a birthday present was that to be named a character in such an awesome series of books. Yay Me!!! Ok back to reality now, so we catch up with Grace who is now sixteen and in high school and just as I loved Grace in the first book, I love her even more now, Patti has left no question from book one left unanswered and if anything expanded with sheer brilliance and ability to bring us right into not only Grace's world and her life but that of the Grigorians and the Burgardians. This book has left me breathless, really breathless, I waited so long to read this one, she has exceeded every expectation I had. I felt like I was right there in the story, few books are able to do that to me, but this one did, I could smell, hear, feel what everyone was doing, the book drew me right into it, I felt like I was able to be with Grace while she was growing up, and watching her bond with Wade grow, and her friendship with Angela get stronger as well, it was nice to see her mom getting back on her feet, I know how that is, it was hard watching my mom get back to herself when my dad had passed away. Angela as always is another one of my favorite characters, she is ultimately there to protect and watch over Grace but also has become Grace's best friend, Angela has no sense of humor, everything she does and says is very matter a fact, but the way she comes out with things she just cracks me up, and poor Joshua has such a MAJOR HUGE crush on Angela, I hope in the next book Angela will see how much he likes her. Now Damon, oh Damon I haven't still even after finished reading made up my mind about him yet, I like him but yet very suspicious of him still, he makes you want to like him though, so I think I'll stay on the fence with him for now, but I also liked Riley, oh Riley I almost forgot about him, a new character as well, comes in as the pizza delivery guy, Riley he's a cutie and also likes Grace, wow Grace is having lots of boy issues in this one
, but I would have to say one more character that I really did like a lot and one I hope I will see more of in the next book is Abe, Grace is babysitting one night and Abe is a little eight year-old dynamo, man he's got her back and then some he's just a little firecracker I just loved that kid, I can't say anymore than that or I'll give some stuff away. I had everything around me in my own surroundings tuned out and all I could hear was what the book was describing. Patti's talent how she describes everyone and everything is nothing short of amazing. Now I can't go on too much more else I spoil this long awaited book for you, and I hate spoilers so I'm not going to go on too much more. I will only say this much more, this is a MUST READ and it's a huge honor for me to be able to review this amazing book for Patti. Patti and I met almost one year ago when she asked me not long after I started my blog to read and review her first book of the series, from that our friendship was born and has grown over this year, I not only recommend this book because she is a dear and wonderful friend, but I recommend this book because she is a talented Author who has done an incredible job creating a world and Beings I have come to love reading about and I can't wait for the next book to come out, I really hope she is writing very fast so I don't go into withdrawals lol. I hope you all enjoy this book as much as I did!!! Enjoy everyone!! (reviewed long after purchase)
Review by: Kerdie on Jan. 15, 2012 :
I am so glad that I started reading this series!! It was honestly one of the best new series that I came across in 2011! After I had finished book 1, I was a little confused!! Most of the questions that I had after book 1 were answered in this book!! Which made me very happy! It also brought up some new questions!! Which also makes me happy because I know that there will be another book!! Yay! I believe that my favorite character is still Grace (and not just because she is the main character and all that!!) I really enjoy how complex she is! She isn't the simple straight arrow female character that is in most YA books these days! I have to say that is a breath of fresh air! I still enjoy Angela, but who doesn't love a super smart female character?? The introduction to Damon Draco…yes please!! I believe what makes him so appealing is the mystery that is encased around his character!! I really hope book three tells more of his story!! I would very much recommend this series to everyone who enjoys good action stories with romance in it! I can't classify this as one genre or the other…but what I can say is that it is AMAZING!! I can't wait to get my hands on book 3!!!!! (reviewed within a month of purchase)
Review by: S.G. Lee on Jan. 05, 2012 :
Paradox -Progeny of Innocence By Patti Roberts I had read "Paradox-The Angels are Here" and looked forward to reading the second in the series and Progeny of Innocence did not disappoint. This book had such a captivating story woven intricately between the pages that this reader could not put down the story until its completion. I enjoyed the richness of the characters and all the facades of their personalities. The characters come alive and you can picture each and every one of them with the descriptions the author gives. All the questions I wondered about with the first book were answered. In the book Juliette narrates and you learn how she was reborn repeatedly and finally settled in Grace. Grace doesn't recall all the details of her past lives though she doesn't sometimes get glimmers through dreams and impressions. She knows that she must recall the past when strange things start happening around her and a killer is loose. She is drawn to the new boy Damon and can't understand the instant attraction. Angela is still trying to protect Grace but it is more difficult for her as Grace is getting older and will not be swayed as easy as she once was. I also really enjoyed was the introduction of Keyla of The Bakhna Rakna who is fighting the bad angels on her own terms. I look forward to finding more about her and her fight and how she and possibly Grace will come together in the next book to save the world in the battle between the warring Angels. I truly enjoyed this book and if you like paranormal books with intricate plots and a rich story you will too. 5 ★★★★★ out of 5 ★★★★★ (reviewed within a month of purchase)
Review by: Triquetra Press Publications on Jan. 03, 2012 :
Patti Roberts weaves a wonderful tale of magick and love in her Paradox series. I was pulled in by an 11 year old Grace in the first book, The Angels are Here, who was shattered by the loss her father. Now she is a teen who must find a place in the human world to better understand the spirit world and how to deal with her visions of a young woman who comes from her own past life. Through Patti, you get to travel into the supernatural as fallen angels hunt for Grace, and she begins her journey in the bloom of her life as a young woman getting to know a boy named Damon, all rolled up with learning her way with dealing with spirit. Patti keeps you on the edge of her seat with a very real as you see these fallen angels through her writing and feel Grace's emotions as they come to life through her words. I didn't want to put this book down as I was pulled into Grace's world, and I gave this book 5 stars as a must read!! (reviewed long after purchase)

Review by: Natshane on Jan. 01, 2012 :
An original and beautifully written story, Progeny of Innocence took the term 'rebirth' and 'souls' to a whole new level! It was a bit hard for me to get into the story because until this day, I was still a bit confused by the concept of both the New World and the Ancient World. However, the series never failed to awe me with it's creativity, originality and vividness. Patti Roberts has a way with words and it left me breathless. I've read many kinds of books, encountered many kinds of mythical creatures and nail biting scenes, but Progeny of Innocence left me with such a deep impression because the writing was detailed and sophisticated. Trust me, Patti could definitely describe 'YA gore' and 'Viciousness'. If you liked The Angels are here, then you will love Progeny of Innocence. Grace is no longer an 8 year old girl who constantly grieves for her father and was going through a tough time, now she is a full grown teen who is haunted by visions that she herself could not comprehend and is completely unaware of her past and the dangers that she was about to face. I was introduced to a sweet, innocent Grace in The Angels Are Here and I fell in love with her almost immediately, but a teenage Grace was even more likable and easier to relate to. I had always liked Grace for her good qualities, she was responsible, mature and independent, possessing the traits of a strong protagonist. However, it was a great change to see Grace transforms into an adolescent who is discovering love and most importantly, discovering herself. When Damon Draco 'barged' into her life, Grace finds herself inexplicably drawn to him, little did she know that they were actually lovers in the past and that a long time ago, Damon made a promise to Juliette, the soul which was reborn into Grace's body. But Damon was bad news, and Angela was keen on keeping them apart. I adore the characters in the story, actually, it was more of I adore the 'souls' in the stories. It seems that every character in the story was an reincarnation of an old soul, and each of them played a vital part in the story. Each character was distinct and unique it was such a fun to read about them! And the evil characters portrayed was evil enough you could actually shudder. But my favourite part of the book was actually the fighting scenes. Do you know the books where the fighting scenes were so dull you wonder what was the point of even building up the climax? Well, Progeny of Innocence was quite the opposite. I was scrolling down the pages faster than I could remember when it comes to an adrenaline junkie scene. The description was so graphical and such a rush! However, I was disappointed to see the lack of appearance of the characters that I have came to adore from the first book. Apart from Grace and Angela, I was hoping to see more of Kate and Wade, seemingly they had grown so much on me from the first book. But I guess the introduction of new characters made me ignore my dissatisfaction. Thank you Patti for giving me an ARC of the book! Progeny of Innocence exceeded my expectations, and the cliffhanger made me ache for the third book. I can't wait to see what Patti has in stores! Reviewed by, Natasha Anne
Jayde Scott says – My favorite character was Grace. I loved her in Book One because, even though she was young, she seemed clever beyond her years. I could feel right from the beginning that there was more to her than the eye let on. She conveyed mysteriousness, importance, and by the end of Book One I knew I was right about her being sweet and kind. In Book Two, Grace is a teenager facing all the difficulties teenagers face such as finding out who they are and becoming comfortable with themselves and the attraction toward the opposite gender. But Grace has more on her plate than the usual teenager does because she's plagued by nightmares and memories she still doesn't understand. I really liked the strength she showed in the face of dangers and obstacles, and I rooted for her that she finds out who she really is. Did you have a favorite male character in book 2 and if so why? My favorite male character was Grace's love interest, Damon. In the beginning, I wasn't sure what his true intentions were (still am not quite sure but I have my suspicions), and I'm eagerly awaiting the next book to see whether I'm right about him. I think Damon is one of those characters that have various facets to them, so you really don't know what is going in his head, however, I find him irresistible and hope he's one of the good guys. Who was another one of your favorite characters and why? Grace's best friend, Angela, because she's easy-going with a positive attitude toward life, and she's also funny. I like characters that aren't afraid of making a fool of themselves. Is there a particular evil character that you love to hate? I thought all evil characters in Prodigy of Innocence had both good and bad sides to them. I, somehow, understood their intentions and why they acted the way they did, which is something I prefer in a book because it makes it so much more interesting and fascinating. The author did a brilliant job at showing the characters' various layers and motivations. If I really, really were to choose one character, I'd go with Abaddon because I find his scheming to become Reign Supreme and the way he keeps everyone in the dark about his affair with Pandora absolutely brilliant. What part of the book did you enjoy the most? The Ancient world or The New World? I was a fan of the Ancient world before and I still am. The balance was just right. The part I enjoyed the most was Grace's first kiss. Her emotions were palpable. I could feel how overwhelming it was for her to experience love again after losing the most important person in her life. Who or What are you hoping to read more about in future books in the series? I'd love to read more about Keyla because her background's fascinating (she belongs to an ancient race, the Bakhna Rakhna, who seem to deal with magic). She's quiet but with a mysterious flair to her that promises well-kept secrets that I suspect will be revealed in future books. Keyla's definitely one of my favorite characters. Jayde Scott 5 stars.
