70 Charlton

With its great West SoHo location, wonderful outdoor spaces and numerous amenities, 70 Charlton provides an excellent selection of one to four bedroom residences.

Architecture

Designed by Beyer Blinder Belle, 70 Charlton offers two contextual towers that are connected by a landscaped courtyard. The exterior of the towers are defined by large-scale windows and steel-framed entries that work in unison with the neighborhood’s surrounding architecture.

Why You Should Pass on Buying a Ground Floor Apartment

A first floor apartment might be priced lower than an upper floor neighbor, even if the space has been completely overhauled. During my apartment search a few years back, I remember falling in love with a first floor unit in a grand prewar building. When I thought long and hard about spending my life savings on that one-bedroom unit, I couldn’t pull the trigger because something didn’t feel quite right. Knowing what I know now about the NYC real estate market, I feel confident that made the right decision to live on a higher floor instead.

53 West 53

If you’re looking for a great building in Midtown Manhattan, 53W53 offers exquisite residences and a long list of impressive amenities.

Architecture

Extending 1,050 feet into the air, 53W53 is being billed as the most architecturally significant addition to the New York skyline in recent years. The talent behind this impressive feat is Jean Nouvel, who succeeded at striking a balance between New York’s classic towers and a future that’s led by skyscrapers. Thanks to its floor-to-ceiling windows and innovative exposed structural system, 53W53 makes for a beautiful modern addition to the skyline.

Neighborhood Spotlight: The West Village

Enchanting and expensive are two words I’d use to describe Manhattan’s West Village. The ultimate walkable parcel in downtown, the West Village exudes a small-town feel and indeed does seem more like a village than a section of a metropolis. Thus, the vibe alone explains the attraction to living here, not to mention its quiet and sometimes solitary streets, and world-renowned restaurants and shops.

A Peek at Mortgage Rates

As the real estate selling season continues in earnest, we look at the trend in mortgage rates. Our focus is on the ever-popular 30 year fixed mortgage, although the discussion can be extended to those seeking a 15 year fixed loan. We will save topics examining adjustable and hybrid terms for a later discussion since these are based off different factors, including short-term interest rates.

The Quest to Buy a Three Bedroom: Where to Look for a Family Apartment for Less Than $2 Million

Space is at a minimum in most New York City neighborhoods, so families with a limited budget often struggle to find apartments that offer gracious layouts but are within a stone’s throw to Manhattan. Limited apartment inventory along with a plethora of eager buyers make the process all the more challenging.

Neighborhood Spotlight: The Meatpacking District

If you want to mingle with New York’s most glamorous, you’ll inevitably end up in the Meatpacking District. Once a hub for the city’s butchers, meat purveyors, and lumberyards, the neighborhood is now one of the most upscale –– in both price and feel –– that you’ll find in Manhattan.

The areas starts on the south end at Gansevoort Street (some say Horatio) and stretches north to West 14th (to some, West 16th or Chelsea Market). The east/west border typically begins at Hudson Street (some say farther east) and goes to the Hudson River.

Best Streets: Riverside, West End and Central Park West

Apart from retail-lined Broadway and bar-jammed Amsterdam, the Upper West Side boasts several exclusive residential avenues. Similar to East End, York, and Park Avenue on the Upper East, these west side streets maintain a certain level of exclusivity, remain desirable spots to invest in real estate, and continue to be pleasant places to live. Known for spacious co-op apartments, these Upper West Side avenues carry some of the most coveted addresses in New York City and have become viable options for families seeking more square footage.
