Final day…If You Hear Her, 0.99

It’s the last day (I think) for the promo pricing on the first book in the Ash trilogy.
A CRY IN THE WOODS
The scream Lena Riddle hears in the woods behind her house is enough to curdle her blood—she has no doubt that a woman is in real danger. Unfortunately, with no physical evidence, the local law officers in small-town Ash, Kentucky, dismiss her claim. But Lena knows what she heard—and it leaves her filled with fear and frustration.
Ezra King is on leave from the state police, but he can’t escape the guilty memories that haunt his dreams. When he sees Lena, he is immediately drawn to her. He aches to touch her—to be touched by her—but is he too burdened by his tragic past to get close? When Ezra hears her story of an unknown woman’s screams, his instincts tell him that Lena’s life is also at risk—and his desire to protect her is as fierce as his need to possess her.

The Innocent…snippet…

Just a few more days…
Even when she slept, Jay kept herself shielded. The low-level shields were minimal, enough to keep her safe, conscious shields she’d developed and maintained through years of experience.
Except she’d lowered them.
Under the bliss of being able to touch somebody and not take in every emotion, feel their every pain and pleasure, she’d lowered her shields and, now, battered by her own pleasure and the sensory shock of finally being able to revel in real physical contact, she slid into an exhausted sleep.
Without her shields.
It wouldn’t have mattered, maybe.
Except there was so much hell around her.
Linc was a solid, blank barrier, his arms wrapped around her, but less than an hour after he’d slid into sleep, her own restless dreams had her rolling away. Obligingly, he grunted something senseless and rolled away, sliding one hand down her back, a wordless reassurance that she was there.
Then he settled more deeply into sleep and she was left alone, curled into a tight ball as everything started to slam into her.
She locked herself down.
It was instinct, more than anything else, that kept her silent.
Perhaps, if she’d been louder with her dreams, he would have heard her when she slipped noiselessly from the bed.
She rarely sleepwalked.
At home, she had an alarm system that sounded if she tried to leave the house and normally, that worked.
His own exhaustion held him captive as she picked up a shirt from the end of the bed, pulling it on without buttoning it, the white cotton pale against her flesh.
The only sound in the room was the soft brush of her footsteps over the floor as she moved to the door, her gaze locked on it, although she saw nothing.
Even when she reached her destination, she saw nothing.
But there was nothing to see, really.
Everything had already happened.
She was just there for the memories.

Movies…

Seen anything good lately?
The guy and I saw Monuments Men which I loved.

From IMDB
There’s this one bit.
“I stepped on a landmine.”
“Why’d you do something like that?”
“It was a slow day.”
The movie was amazing…talked about how art is such a huge part of our culture and why it really does need to be protected, and valued.
“You can wipe out an entire generation, you can burn their homes to the ground and somehow they’ll still find their way back. But if you destroy their history, you destroy their achievements and it’s as if they never existed. That’s what Hitler wants and that’s exactly what we are fighting for.”
See on IMDB
Then bratlet turned 15. She wanted to see Vampire Academy but it was already out of theaters so I guess I owe her the Bluray. We saw this instead.

From IMDB
It wasn’t bad. I can’t remember much from the original, although I’m sure I saw it. So I didn’t have much to compare it to. The storyline was decent, although there were certain things that didn’t ‘hold’ as well. Still, I did like it. Not a bad way to waste a day. Bratlet liked it, too.
See on IMDB
Then the guy rented this.

From IMDB
Tom Hanks can make just about any movie amazing. This is no different, but the guy who played Muse was just as inspiring. He made you almost understand, almost even empathize, although I’m under no illusions that the story was romanticized.
See on IMDB
Now. If only this would come out…

The Innocent… want a copy?

I’m going to give away copies. Not sure how many. Depends on response.
All you gotta do is post a review to Amazon or BN. Good or bad, all I ask is your honest opinion and you don’t have to be a professional reviewer… readers are really just looking for other people’s thoughts on a book.
For a woman he can’t touch, he’ll turn Hell inside out.
An FBI Psychics Novella
There’s only one reason Jay Roberts would set foot in a middle-of-nowhere town like Hell, Georgia. She’s got a bone to pick with her sort-of boyfriend. They only met online, but things got hot and heavy before their cyber link went silent.
She’s here to get in his face for an explanation. But no touching. Her psychic abilities make physical contact…complicated. Yet something about this relationship made her think things would be different. She’s not in Hell twenty minutes before bad vibes have her skin crawling.
Corruption has stained the very fabric of Linc Dawson’s town, and now it’s stolen something very dear to him. The last thing he has time for is nursing Jay’s broken heart.
But Jay isn’t going anywhere. Not only because she’s not giving up on him, because she’s got access to the kind of backup nobody wants on their bad side. And Linc discovers the woman who’s afraid to touch him could actually be his best chance. At salvation, at hope, at life. Maybe even love…
Warning: This book contains a not-so-naive virgin, a pissed-off former cop, lots of frustration, if you know what I mean, and more trouble than either of them know what to do with.
Snippet!
“Into the shower,” he said, pressing a kiss to her mouth, smiling as a long, slow shudder rocked her. She did that, a lot, like his touch was something that sent her very world quaking.
Dealing with his jeans, he urged her into the enclosure and turned on the jets. It was programmed to the temperature he preferred and he watched as her eyes closed in bliss. He was going to enjoy this, slicking her down with his soap, washing her hair. As he slicked the shampoo through her pink- and blue-streaked hair, he was caught off-guard. The rainbow of color washed out and she smiled at him, a sleepy, sexy smile that turned his dick to stone and his heart to mush. “Hair chalk,” she said softly. “I don’t always have the sort of job that lets me walk around with pink and blue hair. Plus sometimes I want orange or green. Or orange and pink.”
“You’re into variety,” he murmured, rinsing the shampoo from strands made dark gold by the water.
He eased closer to the gash, checked the bandage. “Feel okay?” he asked, painfully aware of the rasp in his voice.
“Yeah.” She shrugged. “Just sore.”
He nodded, told himself he should finish this up, tuck her in bed.
He wouldn’t though, not unless that was what she wanted.
He turned her around, stroked his hands down her naked back. Pale skin, swirls of ink. “All these tattoos,” he muttered, pressing a kiss the vining roses that climbed up her spine. “They drive me nuts. Why roses?”
Her breath skittered out of her on a sigh and she glanced back at him, her hair dripping in her eyes. “My grandmother…reminds me of her. Happy memories. There were roses that climbed up the wall to the window of the room where I stayed when I visited.”
There were a lot of roses.
And thorns. Many thorns. “And the thorns?”
“For the pain.” Her eyes clouded and she looked back at the wall. “A lot of it, growing up. I put a thorn for the really bad memories.”
He had counted nearly three dozen thorns.
He paused, his hands tightening on her hips. Just what could linger over from childhood that a woman of twenty-five would feel the need to mark her flesh like this? Over and over? “Are the thorns done?”
For a long, long moment, she was quiet, the only sound the water raining down around them. Then she sighed, pressing her brow to the wall in front of her. “No. I’ll never be done, Linc.”
She turned around them and slid her hands around his waist, plastering her wet, naked body to his. “I don’t want to talk about the roses, the thorns…I don’t want to talk at all. I want you. Just you.”
He hesitated. In the back of his mind he suspected this was a mistake. There were things he needed to do, things they needed to say. And he couldn’t help but think how he planned on dragging this fucking town down with him. Into the pits of a very real hell. Making everybody who’d turned their backs on his daughter suffer.
Jay’s hands came up, cupped his face. “One night,” she whispered. Her lips were cool, soft against his, and the water slicked their bodies together. “We can have one night.”
One night.
He banded his arm around her waist and hauled her against him.
With his free hand, he fumbled and managed to turn off the shower.
If they only had the one night, he’d have her in his bed.
Where he’d dreamed of just this.
He moved out of the shower and she almost made him forget his intentions, almost made him lose his mind as she slid against him, wet and slick, the folds of her sex parting around him as she arched and moved, wiggling almost desperately.
“Now,” she muttered, leaning in to sink her teeth into his lower lip.
“Bed.”
So… want a copy? Just leave your name down below. If you blog and want to post a review to your blog, that’s fine, but I really want the reviews on Amazon and/or BN primarily. If you get a copy, you’re agreeing to post a review to one of those sites…an honest review, that’s all I ask, and I’d like to have it posted in March. It’s due out next week and no, it doesn’t have to be posted then, just sometime this month, if at all possible.
It’s a novella, not a full length book. Also, my FBI books do get kind of dark, sometimes violent, so be warned.
Reviews really do matter. The more reviews a book has, the more ‘discoverable’ a book is…basically, the easier a book is to find during search results, the more it pops up with ‘other readers looked at’, etc, all that crap. This means…more sales. While that doesn’t matter to you, in the long run, it’s good for you, because if you like a series, the series that do well are the ones the author is going to pursue the hardest.
Since I’m trying to build interest in the FBI Psychics, if you dig that series, you can imagine why reviews on these are really, really crucial. The series is kind of a turning point.
While this book is part of a series, I write the FBI Psychics to stand alone. The only connecting theme is that one or both characters will be a psychic so even if you haven’t read any of the other books, you’ll be able to follow fine.
So…interested? If so, leave your name below and thank you…

Bound Temptations … 0.99

So I finally released Tempt Me & Beg Me together in ebook. They’re together in print but I hadn’t gotten around to formatting the book for print.
You can get them now.
FYI…while Tempt Me is just a hot contemp, Beg Me isn’t going to appeal to everybody.
Blurb
Tempt Me
She’s a temptation he can’t resist…
Roxanne ‘Rocki’ Monroe’s life is full of secrets and hidden heartaches. Cole Stanton would love to heal her pain and chase away the ghosts of her past, but she’s just a complication he doesn’t have room for in his life.
Or so he thinks.
It doesn’t take Cole long to realize he’s more than willing to let temptation get the best of him, more than happy to deal with complications if that’s what it takes to get her.
What he has and what he needs are two different things…and what he needs is Rocki.
Beg Me
Beg me…there had been a time when those words made her burn with desire. But now, there was only fear.
Once, Tania Sinclair’s life was almost perfect…But a couple of tragedies later, she’s barely holding it together. A car accident took away her husband, and an attack from somebody she should have been able to trust has shaken not only her confidence, but it’s also stripped away her fantasies and even made it painful to look back on her memories of her husband without fear.
Two years after her attack, Tania is determined to take her life back and the first step is taking back herself…her fantasies, her dreams, her memories. There’s only one person she can trust to do it, too. One person she wants enough…Drake Bennett, her husband’s best friend.
Warning: This book involves light bondage play, rape fantasy & role-playing. The acts between the hero & heroine are consensual, but they may not be ideal for all readers..
A snippet from Tempt Me
He remained silent, his hand stroking her back. Rocki stared at her hand on his thigh and tried to tell herself she needed to just finish up her meal. Have him take her home. They could set up their real date and then see what happened.
Except she couldn’t think about anything but the feel of his hand on her back, of his thigh under her hand. His warmth. The way his mouth pressed against her brow.
“Cole?” She tipped her head back, studying him. “You know, I should probably just get this out. It’s been a while since I’ve dated and all. But I don’t sleep with men on the first date.”
“Ah…” A muscle jerked in his jaw. “Well, I don’t think we’d really even gotten to that point, right? This isn’t a real date.”
“Right. So when you take me home—to either your place or mine-and we sleep together tonight? Just to be clear…we haven’t had a date.”
He hadn’t heard her clearly.
Cole closed his eyes, replaying her words in his head, but they still sounded the same. Lust did bad, bad things to a man’s ability to think clearly, that was all he could figure out.
“Okay, at the risk of sounding like an idiot…what did you just say?”
That smile of hers—oh, hell, it did bad, bad things to his ability to think at all. She tightened her fingers on his thigh, her nails biting lightly into his skin, even through the sturdy denim of his jeans. “Oh, come on now, Counselor…that’s what they call lawyers, right? I think you heard me.”
“I heard you.” He dropped his gaze to her mouth—that wide, sexy mouth—and thought he just might die if he didn’t get to kiss her, seriously kiss her, and soon. “The problem is I think I heard something completely different from what you just said.”
“And what do you think I just said?”
“It had something to do with the two of us going back to your place, or my place. But that couldn’t be what you said.”
Rocki scraped her nails along his jeans. “But it was.” She curled her free hand around his neck. “So. Which one sounds better to you?”
In reply, Cole reached into his back pocket and pulled out his wallet. Blindly, he pulled out some money and glanced at it. Without bothering to do another thing, he threw it down on the table. “Please tell me you’re ready to go now.”

Writer life

Nora Roberts has a post up at her blog. ”A day in the life” and it’s just that… talks about one of her days.
Writing for a living is weird. It’s nothing like what I’d expected it to be. I just planned to write books–yes, from the time I was probably thirteen or so, I planned on being a writer. I had a back up plan, yeah. I’d be a nurse, then I’d somehow make it big…still trying to figure out the make it big part, but I’m lucky enough to write.
But when I was thirteen, we didn’t have email and facebook and twitter…was it easier then? I dunno. Even if we didn’t have that stuff, I’d still have to deal with the non-writer stuff, I guess.
My writing part of my day usually doesn’t start until around eleven or noon, on a good day. My brain doesn’t shift into gear, unless I’m on the downhill slide and wrapping up a book. But I’m working well before that.
And that’s not including being mama…although naturally, that’s there, always. Mama comes first and last and everywhere in between…and that’s why I’m out of bed by 6:30 five days of the week. Kid 1 & 2 are mostly independent now, out of bed on their own and the most I have to do with them is play referee over the bathroom…or judge and jury when they get out of hand.
Kid 3? AKA the infamous baby bratlet who isn’t really a baby anymore? Oh, wow. Different story. Things have levelled out…ADHD and mornings aren’t a happy mix, but we’ve finally figured (or I have figured) out the right way to handle mornings and is usually works. Some days, though, I’m more frazzled by the time she goes than I am after talking with my editor reading the ‘here’s what ya gotta fix’ notes from my editor driving through New York City… I’m just frazzled. I blogged about learning about her ADHD diagnosis a while back…it’s not the discipline issue so many people think and it’s not just being hyper. It is an ongoing learning experience. And sometimes frazzling.
Frazzled or not, come 8:30…ish… my time is usually mine, or mine for work. Email…
Dear ma’am we read your blog and we think you’d be an ideal fit to promote our new product and in return, we’ll supply you with a free sample– DELETE

I saw what you said on twitter about reviews and ranty authors. Don’t you think you’re being a little hypocritical? After all, you rant. Why shouldn’t they get mad about reviews if you get mad about shit? Sigh, scratch head. Save. Debate on replying.
Hi!!! I just read Wrecked and ohhhh, I luv zach sssssoooo much, pls tell me you’ll be writing books for Seb and Zane and the twins. but pls don’t put Zane with Keelie, i hate her. Hey there! Hi,Shiloh! I got the MS in… I’ll be reading it soon and it’s time to cover conference…but we’ve got to consider changing the title. There are a few other books out there with a similar title and… Gaping. Staring in shock at email from editor. But I WROTE the entire book around the premise of that title. IT FITS! Seething. Brooding. Emails friend. Seeths to friend. Ponders. Tosses titles around. Friend helps come up with title that hasn’t been used…will come up with a way to THIS title and make the story play off it more than the other title. And now title will stand out. Fine. But I’ll still sulk.
Takes a break, stares at inbox. Gulps.
Email from assistant… did you get my invoice? Eep! Yes, just finished book, brain leeking out ears. Check in mail, promise.
Goes to play on twitter a little. See GR link to an author meltdown–eyes the email in inbox. #headdesk.
Knock at the door. Jehovah’s Witness. Smile, take flyer. Disappear inside the house.
Sits at desk, tackles edits on RS.
Goes back to twitter. The brouhaha about author meltdown has exploded. It’s approaching critical mass. Tweets funny pics from Depressed Darth instead.
Edits a few more pages.
Almost noon. Hungry. Did I remember to run?
Food achieved, edited 20 pages. Time to write.
Can’t get motivated… I know! Check into twitter…whine about lack of motivation and looking for partners in #1k1hr. Also, tweets funny pics from Jedi Order PR.
Somebody knocks. Fedex. Dumps package on counter. I have partners for #1k1hr. Sixteen minutes in? Phone rings. Bleh. I didn’t need to answer that.
Score! 1400 written. Phone rings. Ignored. Another round of #1k1hr. Somebody knocks… AGAIN. Author is getting rabid. Schwann’s guy. Author has to play human because she needs stuff. Stuff obtained. Back to #1k1hr. Only hit 800 words. Irritation. 15 minute break then back to–stupid phone rings again–answering machine, thank…oh, crap. I have to answer that.
No…he’s not…won’t be home until…oh. Okay. I’ll text him.
All while silently screaming.
Late joining in on #1k1hr. Managed to get 1100 anyway. Getting anxious cuz kids due home soon. Check phone for reply from the guy–might have to leave to meet him early…
Older two kids off bus. Tell them we might have to help Dad shovel snow and leave in a little while. Inwardly snarling. Kids are being loud. Duct tape isn’t an acceptable form of child-rearing, I’ve been told.
Text… that’s fine. We can meet there after work.
Oy. Kick into overdrive. One final #1k1hr. Forty minutes in-phone call. That’s it. I’m ripping it out the wall.
Hey, everybody. Wednesday service is on tonight… somebody came and cleared the sidewalks…
Me. Staring at the phone. That’s what we were supposed to do.
Grabbing phone. Another text. Me. Collapsing into limp puddle.
One day later.
Sticky note pasted to computer for the guy: I ran off to the coffee shop to escape endless door knocking and telephone ringing. Love, your rabid wife.
**#1k1hr 1000 words in an hour.
***kinda sorta written tongue in cheek but the stuff has happened, just not all in one day, except the day where I had the endless phone calls and the Jehovah’s Witness, Schwann’s, and Fedex guy all show up within two hours of each other.

FYI, I think the pricing is restricted to the US. These are set up by my pub and I have no control over it…save for the UK. I retained ebook rights in the UK and it’s territories and I did knock that price down on IF YOU HEAR HER. It will take a day or two for it to take effect, but then it should show up for the equivalent to .99. Wish I could do the same for all territories, but that decision is out of my hands. Bladed Magic (A Kit Colbana Novella)… I need reviews…

A Colbana Files Prequel
The events of this short story take place between A STROKE OF DUMB LUCK and BLADE SONG. It can be read as a stand-alone.
For the first time in her life, Kit Colbana’s life was going just fine. She had a nice, easy job. She’d managed to escape the not-so-loving attentions of a family who’d rather see her dead than look at her. She had a roof over her head and she didn’t have to fight for every little thing she had.
Then she finds herself tangled up with a green-eyed witch by the name of Justin. He’s looking for somebody and for some bizarre reason, he seems to think she can help. All she has to do is say no, and she can go back to her safe little existence. That’s exactly what she needs to do and she knows it.
Too bad she’s not very good at following her own advice.
As you can probably tell by the blurb, this isn’t book 4. This is a prequel, set between A Stroke of Dumb Luck and Blade Song. It’s the story of how Kit & Justin met and how she ended up doing what she does. It’s also a novella.
This book isn’t out yet. It will be. I’m putting it up on Amazon and all the other sites, probably in March.
I would like some blogger help spreading the word.
In exchange, I’m willing to offer a limited number of ARCs…how many depends on the interest. I’m willing to give away quite a few…20 or more doesn’t faze me, but at some point, I will have to cap it.
If you’re willing to post about the book on your blog now…or in the next week-ish, to let people know the book is coming, and then post a review to your blog when it releases in March, please leave a link to your blog in comments below.
Keep in mind, posting below, posting about the book doesn’t guarantee you’ll get an ARC (the book will be provided in PDF form, just so ya know). While I doubt it’s going to happen, if for some odd reason, I had 200 people willing to post, for the sake of my sanity and the constraints on my time, I can’t sent out that many ARCs.
If you don’t have a blog, but are a regular on GR or Booklikes and are willing to post about the book, you can request… just leave a link to your profile in the comments.
And while I know some aren’t fond of it, being willing to post a review to Amazon &/or BN is very helpful, so if you’re willing to do so, please let me know. The more reviews you have on those sites, the more ‘visible’ your books can be in searches…something in the algorithms from what I’ve heard. This is what I’ve been told, and I can definitely see it happening. The reviews ~positive or negative ~ are very helpful to authors, so…well… I want them.
Please note, this isn’t a contest. I’ll do a random giveaway sort of thing closer to. Thank you!

And that’s a wrap…done with Shattered, Zane & Keelie’s book

Finished this on Friday, promptly went out for drinks and dinner with my guy, because yeah, why not?
Now I have to do another read thru and get it sent in. It’s not due until mid-March, but I was getting panicky because I always finish early and I hate not being done, with this off and to the editor by now. But it’s done.
I had to rewrite the first half-almost completely, because it was going too dark and my contemporaries aren’t supposed to do that. I want these to be lighter and fun, but Keelie was a complex character. So I found a way to balance who she was/is with the lighter story I wanna tell with these. Job done, I think.
But that meant I had to delete chunks of the book. There were chunks that had nothing wrong with them…but they didn’t fit with the new direction of the book. So…here you go! A chunk that was deleted.
This is Zane & Keelie’s book, btw, a follow-up to Wrecked.
~*~
Unedited, deleted scene from Shattered, due out sometime…um. Sometime.
She covered his mouth with her own.
If he kept talking, she’d just screw this all up again, she knew it. Maybe she was just suffering from a weird sort of deprivation and once she’d handled that, she could think better. She could talk to him and have a real conversation and…
Wow.
Heated bliss rolled through her and she shuddered against him as he slid one arm around her waist. His free hand settled on her hip and she could feel the length of him pressed against her from chest to knee. This she could without messing it up.
No thought required.
Just feeling.
She traced her tongue along his lower lip and to her utter delight, she felt him shudder.
Then, a split second later, he tore his mouth away from hers, a snarl on his face.
“Zane…?”
“Be quiet.”
She blinked, the growl in his voice catching her off-guard. Awareness started to trickle through her and she lifted her lashes to look at him but then his hands were on her and they were moving.
Moving—
She didn’t have a chance to process any more than that.
She was pinned between two very hard, very immoveable objects. One was Zane—his chest crushing against her. The other, something rough against her back. She felt it scraping through her t-shirt and the sensation only added to everything else as he wedged his hips between her thighs and moved against her.
“Open your mouth.” His hand came up, cupped her face and when she didn’t comply fast enough, she felt his thumb pressing against her cheek. Instinctively, she opened, a whimper falling from her lips. “Yeah…that’s it….”

Sweeter than Sin

here’s the cover
here’s the blurb…
CAN’T FORGET THE PAIN
It took years for Adam to stop drowning his regrets in alcohol, and running the local bar doesn’t make it any easier—especially not when everyone he knows gathers there to discuss the shocking allegations that have shattered his hometown. When another murder rocks sleepy Madison to its core, it becomes chillingly clear that even more vicious wounds are waiting to be exposed.
WON’T RESIST THE PLEASURE
Nothing is sacred anymore, and no one is safe, least of all the mystery woman who shows up in town out of the blue, looking like every fantasy Adam’s ever had. She may have her own dangerous secrets, but she can’t ignore the urgent heat between them any more than he can. As a killer’s quest for vengeance explodes into violence, Adam is tempted to lose himself in the delicious promise of her body—until he realizes he’ll risk anything if she’ll give him her heart…
And…here’s a snippet
Yeah, he wouldn’t have minded seeing just where things might have led with the pretty lady with the big eyes and that top-heavy mouth. That mouth. He was going to think about it more than once, but thoughts would have to suffice, because he’d gotten that message loud clear.
In the blink of an eye, she’d gone from hello, honey to Get me a burger, kthxbai.
Too bad, because standing next to her had done something to him that he hadn’t felt in a good long while. She had a narrow, fox-like face and those cute retro-glasses made him think of sexy, wicked school teachers and he’d just love to have a lesson or two from her…or give her the lessons.
Part of the secrets and shadows series
