Against the wall…

I was over on goodreads the other day and one of the reviews, Maldivian's,  and there's a tag…against the wall smexing…

It tickled me and I still grin about it. Because I'm tickled… I'm posting the beginning of that scene. Just the beginning, though.  If you want the whole thing, you'll have to get the book. Be warned.  I use a couple of bad words.

~*~

"Stare all you want."  She slid her hand higher, toyed with the neck of his T-shirt.  "I want to know what you look like…can I?"

"You can do anything you want."

If anybody had told him that having a woman touch his face could be that damned erotic, Ezra would have laughed.

That was until Lena Riddle put her hands on him, tracing the line of his lips with her fingertips, doing the same with his jawline, along his cheekbones, feathering across his eyes and nose.

She took her time with her tactile exploration of his face, combing her fingers through his hair, even tracing his ears with her fingertips.

Every single touch, every single stroke, seemed to arrow straight down his spine, striking him square in the balls.

Damn it, he hurt.  His cock was rigid, painfully hard and he was ready to do damn near anything if it would get her to wrap those soft, cool fingers around him. He was all but shuddering with the need to touch her, taste her.

By the time she finished and lowered her hands to his shoulders, Ezra was strung tight and hovering on the edge of his control.

"What color are your eyes?"

"Green."  His voice was hoarse, tight.  Hell, he was so damned turned on, it was a miracle he could even speak.  Reaching up, he caught her glasses and tugged them off, setting them on the small table just inside the doorway.  "I want to see your eyes."

She averted her gaze but he reached out, caught her chin in his hand and tugged until she was once more facing him.  "You've got the prettiest damn eyes," he said, staring into the pale blue.  He closed the scant inches between them and angled her chin upward.  "I want to kiss you…if that's a problem, then do me a favor and just tell me no, right now."

A grin flirted with her lips and she swayed closer. "Not a problem. Not at all. Unless of course you plan on deciding in a few hours you're not sure you really want to try this thing out, after all."

Ezra nuzzled her mouth.  "Hmmm.  Not going to be an issue, although I think it's time I apologized.  I'm sorry about that.  Seriously.  Could we maybe rewind and just start over? Try it again?"

"No…no do overs."  She raked his lower lip with her teeth.  "I get why you pulled back.  It makes sense.  Just make sure you really want to go forward before we…do whatever."

"I'm sure.  Damnation, I can't get you out of my head, Lena.  You're everywhere."

Right now, she could touch.

As he ran his hands down over her body, stripping away her clothes, Lena lifted her eyes upward and stared at the sun again.

Lost herself in the warm golden glow and the feel of a man's hands on her body.

She could see…see his face as he guided her to the ground and knelt between her thighs.

She could touch…touch his shoulders and fist her hands in his hair.

She could feel…feel the fiery hot pleasure blistering through her as he levered up over her.

She could hear–

"Help me!"

*

Lena came awake with a gasp. Her heart knocked against her ribs and she shivered as cool air danced over her sweat-slicked body.   A breeze drifted in through the open window.

It was cool…not cold. But she was freezing.

Hearing one low, questioning yip, she held out her hand.  Puck pressed his nose against her palm and she heaved out a breath.  The dog's body was tense–all over tense and he had his hackles up.

"Sorry, boy.  Just had a bad dream," she muttered.   She'd gone and freaked her dog out.

As she started to lie back down, she heard it.

A voice.

"…help me…"

A CRY IN THE WOODS

The scream Lena Riddle hears in the woods behind her house is enough to curdle her blood—she has no doubt that a woman is in real danger. Unfortunately, with no physical evidence, the local law officers in small-town Ash, Kentucky, dismiss her claim. But Lena knows what she heard—and it leaves her filled with fear and frustration.

Ezra King is on leave from the state police, but he can't escape the guilty memories that haunt his dreams. When he sees Lena, he is immediately drawn to her. He aches to touch her—to be touched by her—but is he too burdened by his tragic past to get close?

When Ezra hears her story of an unknown woman's screams, his instincts tell him that Lena's life is also at risk—and his desire to protect her is as fierce as his need to possess her.  Read more

If You Hear Her…Random Snippets…

It was an edgy, burning need, one that crawled around under his skin and tore at him, ate at him.  It was a hunger, a need, an ache and one he had to listen to, or it would drive him insane.  But he also knew listening to it was a bad, bad idea.

Bad idea, very bad idea, he told himself.  Friends, remember?  Just friends.

"Yeah, and as a friend, I can go out there and see how she is doing, right?  I mean, after the weekend she had, what could it hurt?" he muttered to himself.

Trying to talking himself out of that idea, trying to cool the need, the fire in his gut, he decided to stop by the store.   His last grocery store run, he'd been distracted—and without a list.  Today, he was still distracted, and still without a list, but one thing he'd realized he needed was deodorant so he made himself stop before leaving town.

He made it halfway through the store, congratulated himself for not thinking about Lena. But as he stopped in the microscopic health and beauty section—crap, why did they put men's deodorant in the beauty section—he found himself in front of the display of condoms.

Shit. Shit. Shit. Shit.

He did not need condoms for a friendly relationship.

Once more, his focus was right back on her, and this time it had nothing to do with the strange mystery of the screams and everything to do with the shape of her mouth, the round curve of her ass, and the weird way he found his heart skipping when she stood close.  The way he smiled when she laughed, and the way his chest ached when he saw that sad look on her face.

It was almost like the way he felt when he'd first started dating Stacy Traynor back in high school—first major crush—that hot, fiery burn of young love.

But the deal with Lena?  It was worse.  Way worse.

Saturday Snippets…Villain POV

10.25.2011

"…there…."

He stood over her, studied her hair.

The gleaming blond strands were shorn now to chin length, perfectly straight, even as could be.

Her eyes, sightless and fixed, stared overhead.

That blank look on her face irritated him, but he wasn't surprised.  He had seen this coming, after all.  Something about the way she had reacted, the way she screamed.

The life had gone out of his girl and once that fight was gone…

If You Hear Her…Random Snippets…

She couldn't stay in the kitchen brooding about why Ezra King had never called her back.

What in the hell did it matter?

They'd had one date.

One very wonderful kiss.

It didn't add up to much.

So what if she'd dreamed about him quite a few times since then?

In the end, what were a few dreams? A few really, really, hot, sexy, poignant dreams?

Thrills & Chills Giveaway… Jaci Burton Guest Blogging

Oh, suspense, how I love thee. One of my favorite genres to read in is romantic suspense. I love to grab a big juicy romantic suspense and settle in on my sofa for a read. I can lose all track of time. It's even better with the lights off, wrapped up in my pillow and blanket. If an author can grab me by the throat and make me lose all track of time, can make me swoon because the hot hero is right there with the heroine every step of the way, can give me a strong heroine who can hold her own with the guts to face down whatever happens, I'm hooked.

Some of my favorite romantic suspense authors are Nora Roberts, Brenda Novak, Lora Leigh, Roxanne St. Claire, Maya Banks, Stephanie Tyler, Linda Howard…the list is endless.

I also love watching suspense and police procedurals on television. Anyone who knows me knows I'm a huge fan of the genre. My DVR is usually chock full of Law and Order, CSI, NCIS, Criminal Minds, and Castle, and if it isn't fictional suspense then I'm watching reality suspense, because there's nothing like a little real life murder to spark the creative juices.

I've written romantic suspense before—if you've read my Wild Riders erotic romance series, they're a lot of hot romance, a lot of action adventure and a mix of suspense. But I wanted to try my hand at straight romantic suspense, and that's where my Killer series was born.

This is a series about a group of kids who met as teens and forged a bond after a traumatic night. It centers around one woman and the man she loved when she was younger. She's a cop now, which lets me delve into my absolute love of police procedurals and forensics.

So to get a chance to not only write a romantic suspense, but to write one with a cop as the heroine? Total bliss. And not being at all squeamish, I got to delve into murder and all the ugliness that comes along with that.

Murder is ugly business, and I show every side of it in THE HEART OF A KILLER. The physical, grisly, bloody side of it, as well as the emotional impact it has on those closest to the victim. My heroine, Anna, was once a victim, and chose her profession not only to put away criminals, but because she never wants to be a victim again. And when murders start happening that are eerily similar to the trauma she suffered when she was a teenager, she has to put her trust in Dante—the one man who suddenly resurfaces in her life again. Dante is the man Anna once loved, but he left her when she needed him most. And he might be her number one suspect.

In THE HEART OF A KILLER you'll find tragedy, death, betrayal, and a lot of tears and anguish. But you'll also find friendship, forever bonds, and love reunited.

I hope you enjoy the book!
