On A Lighter Note

I've been looking at Cake Wrecks for some time, but surely the horror of this cake has never been equalled.

Yes. That is a cake. I'll be passing out eye/brain bleach in the comments.

On Not Getting to Things

I'm sorry, y'all. I'm discouraged.

There keeps being stuff I want and mean to respond to, and I keep not getting to it. Points worth discussing about BP and what they are and aren't doing. Deeply personal and helpful comments people left about gender and transitioning on those entries, for which I am very grateful. This is one of the things I was worried about when I opened comments on this journal -- that people would leave good comments deserving responses and my lazy ass wouldn't get to the...

Boycott BP

From [info:] mb2u :

Please boycott BP and their other brands:

BP and subsidiaries
am/pm
ARCO
Castrol
Aral
Wild Bean Cafe
Amoco

BP has refused to accept responsibility for the accident that is allowing thousands of barrels of oil to flood the Gulf of Mexico, with no end in sight. BP was slow to act when the leak began, and has not been aggressive enough dealing with what is obviously a major disaster. BP thinks it's the responsibility of the Federal government to clean up their mess. BP has offered contracts...

This Just In

BP sucks even harder than we thought.

Thanks to [info:] infrogmation for the tip, and please see his journal for yet more appalling revelations.

Bad, Bad, Good

I'm sinking into despair. The oil disaster was already enough to make me do so. Then, yesterday, I heard some other horribly disheartening news -- not personal, just some shit I can't stand to talk about. I went back to bed Sunday afternoon thinking I'd take a nap. Instead I slept all day and all night. It was like being in suspended animation; I never woke up hungry or needing to use the bathroom or anything. Finally awoke around 4 AM, just as Chris was getting home. 4 AM is a bad time to be...

Dinner

I finally made groceries after weeks of bare cupboards. Currently trying to decide whether I feel like cooking or not, and if so, do I want to make lasagna or buffalo meatloaf? My friend Harold (from OLGC) is recovering from cancer surgery and eating a low-fat, high-protein diet to help him grow a new liver, so I thought he'd enjoy a buffalo meatloaf because buff is much leaner than beef, yet just as rich-tasting if not better. I got some store-made gumbo in case I don't feel like cooking, an...

Oil Disaster

I'm flat-out sick about this oil spill in the Gulf of Mexico, which, as the link explains, is really more of an oil river. I've been birdwatching at every location mentioned in the link and know some of the areas very well, have seen many lifers and favorite birds there. This is the worst thing that's happened to southeast Louisiana since Katrina and the federal levee failures, and many of these marshes were only beginning to recover from that. Not to mention the fact that the federal governm...
