Blurbs and all that.

It got pointed out to me that I had not posted the blurbs I've received for the The Lady of Seeking in the City of Waiting. So, here they are.

"A grand tour of the city of Shadeside. From the screaming Ghost Clock to tribes of roof-running messengers to the silent warriors of the Black Watch, Shadeside is a fascinating setting, and Jennifer Brozek brings it to life." – James L. Sutter, author of Death's Heretic

"In Lady of Seeking in the City of Waiting, Brozek spins a fantastic tale in every sense of the phrase, layered with vibrant characters, touching drama, and intriguing themes. Read it." – Matt Forbeck, author of Amortals

"An intriguing novella with an unusual premise and a spirited heroine who insists on weaving her own path through an tangle of intrigue, despite that she cannot remember who she is. The layering of present and past mysteries gives the story a richness that helps draw the reader on toward the unexpected but satisfying conclusion." – L. Jagi Lamplighter, author of the Prospero's Daughter series

First Review of Lady of Seeking

So, FantasyNibbles reviewed The Lady of Seeking in the City of Waiting and didn't really like it. They did have a couple nice things to say as well as some interesting-from-an-outsider's perspective.

Gravestone Stories 2 and horror monologues

This one is all about chain link symbols on gravestones - http://blog.apexbookcompany.com/2012/02/06/gravestone-stories-2-chain-link-symbol/

Also, Miss Amber Clark will be performing my monologue "A Message From Mommy" in the Vaginomicon Monologues held in the Rendezvous' Jewelbox Theater on February 24th. And trust me, when I say that it is one messed up horror monologue. I wrote it specifically for Amber and will publish it here after it has been performed. http://www.facebook.com/vnomicon

Writing and Snow

I've been quiet because I've been working on Colonial Gothic: Popham. That is sort of how it is when I write. Not much more to report.

I also have become the calendar coordinator of the HWA. With the help of Angel McCoy, webmistress of awesome, we now have a working HWA calendar of events.

Finally, we have snow. Beautiful, cold, wet snow.

The Lady Of Seeking in the City of Waiting is listed!

The Lady Of Seeking in the City of Waiting will be released in March 2012. It is available for pre-order right now. Eventually it will have an e-version, too. But I don't have that date.

From the moment Jane entered the city, she found herself a pawn in a dangerous game between rivals unknown to her. With no real memory of who she is or where she came from, Jane embarks on a quest to uncover her past as well as discover who it is she promised to meet. Fraught with danger, her journey draws her the protection of the guardsman Derax, the cousel of the great Lady Ellowyn, and the most surprising of all, warning of plots and betwrayal by the most powerful oracle in the city. Along this journey to discover herself, Jane encounters a city peopled by the strange, the wonderful, the terrible...and so much more. By quest's end, she must begin to wonder if Shadeside itself has a stake in her success - as if there could be any doubt...

Also, Alma Alexander has released Weight of World - her trilogy of stories previously published on the Edge of Propinquity.

*An angel offers a frazzled woman a tempting choice of a more fulfilling life, but at what bitter cost? *A sinner finds that purgatory is just another form of hell, and release is centuries or millennia away.*A youth discovers that a careless act of theft has shattering consequences on many worlds.>/I>

Hugo Awards

I am always of two minds when it comes to awards:

Tooting your own horn for awards is arrogant and unbecoming.
and
I worked hard this last year. I deserve to be considered for these awards.

This year, I am opting for #2. I have worked hard and I would like to be considered.

I am eligible for the Short Form Editor Hugo award. I edited five anthologies to good reviews, worked with large and small press and I'm really proud of what I have accomplished this last year. If you enjoyed any of the anthologies I edited last year and/or enjoyed working with me on them or The Edge of Propinquity, please consider nominating me for the Short Form Editor Hugo award.

As a reminder, here are the anthologies I edited last year:
• Beauty Has Her Way
• Human Tales
• Beast Within 2
• Space Tramps
• Human for a Day

I sincerely appreciate it.

To vote for 2011 Hugo Awards, you need to have been a member of WorldCon 2011/Renovation SF, be a member of WorldCon 2012/Chicon 7, or become a supporting member of WorldCon 2012.

Finally, I think some other people deserve Hugo Award consideration:

Novel
Late Eclipses – Seanan McGuire
Honeyed Words – John Pitts

Novella
Countdown – Mira Grant
Kiss Me Twice – Mary Robinette Kowal

Short Story
Cinderella City – Seanan McGuire
The Very Next Day – Jody Lynn Nye
If Dragon's Mass Eve Be Cold And Clear – Ken Scholes
Band of Bronze – Jean Rabe

Gravestone Stories

My new column over at Apex is up: Gravestone Stories .

This year for Apex, I wanted to write a column that was not aimed at authors or prospective authors. I wanted to write something for readers that authors could also use. Actually, that's not true. I wanted to write something specifically for readers to enjoy. As it turns out, authors can certainly use what I write about in Gravestone Stories as part of their research or to hang plots on.

I love graveyards and cemeteries. I always have. There are stories in the stone and peace in the air. Jeff took me to a cemetery to see Rucker's Tomb—something of a legend around here—and I found so much more to see and an amazing sense of history of the Everett (Washington) area. I just knew I wanted to do more research into what I found there.

I wasn't sure that Jason would go for it when I pitched the idea but was very pleased at his "That sounds neat!" response. It is neat and I'm really happy to be working on this project. Also, I'm really happy to be working on it with Amber for the pictures. She is a consummate photographer and a hoot to be around. This won't be the only project I work on with her this year.
