In case that music thing doesn’t work out, it’s good to have a back up plan.

The Writing Life: It's not all sex and glamor

I bartend some on the side for extra money. On a recent shift, this happened.

My co-worker: This Pandora station plays a lot of Clash.
Me: That’s cool, I dig The Clash.
Co-worker: Yeah, my dad really digs them, too.

Such are the hazards of being in the service industry into your forties.

Interview with Bill Loehfelm | Washington Independent Review of Books

Interview with Bill Loehfelm | Washington Independent Review of Books:

"I didn’t choose a female heroine. I chose the best character I had on hand. She’s the right character to take my writing where I want it to go so she got the job. She’s really the result of a long process."

On The Sandman's Exit.

Watching highlights of the last 42’s last home game reminded me that - even after all the controversy, the steroids and the cheating with PEDs, the strikes, the lockouts, the insane amounts of money, the egos, the tarnished records and reputations, and not to mention the repeated failures of my beloved New York Mets far outnumbering their success - I find it impossible to be cynical about baseball. There should always be things like that in our lives, things we are never too cool to love, upon which we lavish our unabashed and childlike affection. Things to which we are senselessly and painfully loyal. If I am a fool, I am a joyful fool, who will always have a reason to look forward to every spring, who not always gets to celebrate a second New Year’s Day, but who for whom there is always a next season.

The Devil in Her Way is not only Bill Loehfelm’s best book yet - it may just be the best mystery novel to come out of post-Katrina New Orleans since James Lee Burke’s The Tin Roof Blowdown. I can offer no higher praise than to say that I finished it and wanted to read more. A gem.”
