Hoppy Easter Blog Hop

Thanks for stopping by Blog Hoppers!
Here's my Contest:
I'm getting ready for my Naughty Hour Party at this year's RT Booklover's Convention and I need questions readers would want to ask erotic romance authors. See below for more information on my Naughty Hour RT party.
To enter the contest, offer three questions readers might want to ask erotic romance authors. The hotter and crazier the questions the better. You can place the question in the comments or email them to me isabelle@isabelledrake.com.
Here's the prize:
Ebook of my latest release, Letting off Steam.
Drawing will random, not based on "hotness" or "craziness" of questions, lol.. (But please still have fun with the questions). I'll do my random drawing on April 9.

The Vampire Lovers

Hot lesbian vampires, a creepy castle, and a decent storyline...that's what you'll get in the first of the three vampire films that make up Hammer Film's, The Karnstein Trilogy. If you're fan of classic vampire movies, you have to watch this trilogy.

This first one, The Vampire Lovers (1970), centers features a lesbian vampire who uses her awesomeness to lure young women to her. It's based on the 1872 novella CARMILLA by J. Sheridan LeFanu. Coolness from back in the day. I'm posting each of the chapters on Tumblr every Tuesday and Thursday. Check out the PROLOGUE now, then come back for the rest.

If you aren't a vampire classics fan, there is another reason to watch this: to see if girl on girl action is hot. Or, in this case, how hot it is. After the popularity of male-male erotica, people started wondering if woman-woman stories could be equally popular. Watch this movie and see what you think.

It's available on Netflix for instant viewing. The best deal I found on Amazon included The Countess Dracula. I'm not sure I'd pay the 15.00 for the two of them. If you don't have instant access, I'd suggest requesting The Vampire Lovers from the library. Even if you have to wait a couple weeks, it'll be worth it. If you do order it from the library-while you're at it order the other two in the trilogy: Lust for a Vampire and Twins of Evil.

No matter how you watch it, plan ahead: red wine and dark chocolate will be a must, to ensure full viewing pleasure.

The trailer isn't as awesome as it could be, but it gives you an idea of the treat you will be in for.

Dear men over forty,

Haveyou ever wondered why your wife/girlfriend/office romance/favorite barista andevery other reasonable woman in your life reads super hot books with to-die-forheroes?
Asidefrom the fact that these books rock, it might be because these women miss dayswhen a man spent more than three minutes trying to get their attention, seducethem, and get them into bed. I know, at forty+ it may seem like there isn'ttime to waste on sexy getting-to-know-you conversation and that split-secondtoo-long-to-be-polite stares might not net a night of sex, but I'm here to tellyou, that the night of sex you do after your effort will be much, much betterif you are willing to put some time and thought in.
Contrastthese approaches:
ApproachA. You see a woman at a bar that you think is hot so you go right up to her.Instead of asking her name, you ask her if she has her own car there. She saysyes. Then, you impress her with, "I'm a dentist because I'm good with myhands; want to go to my place? Okay if we take your car?"
ApproachB. You see a woman at a bar. You think she's hot, so you stare at her. Shecatches you starting and stares back. But then looks away. You move around tothe other side of the bar. You stare again. She catches you again, stares backa bit longer, then looks away. You repeat this two more times. You do not getimpatient. Instead, you get that her being stared at is turning her on. As amature guy, you know if she didn't think you were hot she would not stare back. Finally, when her body language tell you she'd ready to talk--shoulders facingyou--you go up and say hi. You tell her your name. You ask her name. Then, youask her something fun.
Sinceyou are a man, I'll be direct. Approach B is better. Married men, you aren'toff the hook. You still can and should  seduce your wife, so you too aregoing to want to go with approach B.
It'snever too late to switch it up and put some effort in. Next time a woman nearyou is reading something hot and looks up from the page with a misty expressionand a soft sigh on her lips, remember what I told you.

It's okay that I don't like Dr. Seuss

The two books I dislike the most are:

The Cat in the Hat
The Lorax

I know. Everyone loves these. They love them now and they loved them when they were kids. I was supposed to love them too - but I didn't.

Here's what I thought then and still think now:

The Cat in the Hat is a rude jerk. He's the typical toxic friend. He comes in to your life, promises lots of fun, makes an insane mess of everything, then leaves you to justify--or in this case lie about--what happened to someone you love. I know he cleans up the mess, but to me that's not enough. The lie lingers.

I didn't like The Lorax because it is so heavy handed and obvious. The kid in the story who talked to the Onceler didn't do that bad stuff, but he's left to carry the burden of guilt for what happened before he was around. Even as a kid, before I could read, I remember being annoyed that whoever wrote the book could've written something for kids that was positive and fun and uplifting instead of writing something that so obviously sought to make us feel bad. It isn't that I don't think kids can handle heavy topics, but they shouldn't have adult guilt dropped on their small shoulders. Guess Seuss  didn't read Catcher in the Rye.

If you liked the movie The Manchurian Candidate (1962, Frank Sinatra) you have to check out Short Night of Glass Dolls

As usual, I picked this Italian film because it was from the 60's or 70's and looked like it had some *hotness.* As in: sexy outfits, cool, swanky settings, to-die-for interiors, sweet cars...you get the idea. See the movie poster? Yeah. Like that.

It did have those elements, but it also had an intriguing plot that developed slowly enough that I had to actually watch it. For that reason, I'm calling this one a lazy Saturday afternoon or coffee in bed on Sunday morning movie. If you are lucky enough to get a snow day, this would be perfect.

In the opening scene, main character is found in plaza in Prague. He's believed to be dead, because he shows no signs of life, but he is actually conscious. The action of the film is made up of his memories, leading up to the moment his body is discovered, and then the consequences of those actions.  According to what I found by zipping around the I-net, the film was shocking to movie-goers.

If you aren't sure whether or not this is for you, check out the trailer. Despite an orgy scene in the film, the trailer is all ages.

It's available on Netflix for instant view. I didn't find it on Amazon instant, but there were some copies for sale. I also found bits and pieces of it on YouTube. But the better bet, if you don't have Netflix, would be to request it from your library. It'll be worth the wait.

Vampiric Disapointment

Imagine my excitement when I sat down to watch another Jean Rollin vampire movie: Lips of Blood (1975). It's Friday night: I poured my red wine and filled my candy dish with dark chocolate M&M's. After the visual fun of Rollin's The Nude Vampire , I had high expectations.

In one of the first scenes, some thirty-year old guy is at a party. I'm okay with that. What I'm not okay with is him leaving the cutie pie he's talking with to pour his mother a glass of wine. I get that the movie is French, but still. Seriously, I don't care about some guy's mom. I want hot vampires and cool lighting. You know, like in Rollin's 1960's films.

I did watch the whole thing. There were a couple fun scenes, the twins from the earlier movies show up. This morning, I wondered if it was just me. Was I jaded? Too picky? I checked around and found a reviewer who also thought this film was lackluster compared to his earlier ones. It really didn't have the surreal creepiness or the weird sexiness.

If you're curious about Lips of Blood, I suggest you watch the trailer. While it does spoil the surprise of what happens to the twins, you'll get to see that kill joy mom who shows up every once in a while to ruin everything. (Trailer is 18+ only so, FYI)

If you're in the mood for some surreal, weirdly sexy French vampires, I suggest watching Rollin's  The Nude Vampire instead. If you have Netflix, you can find it in the instant selections. If not, you can get it on Amazon's 7-day rental for 1.99 .
