Vorsprung durch papier-falten

early draft of a polar bearI’m doing some teaching and demonstrating at an exhibition in Wolfsburg, Germany next week, called “Mathe x anders – Die Magie der Formen und Muster”. On the menu will be many hundreds of penguins and (hopefully) a life-size polar bear that I’m currently working on. Here’s a picture of an early stage of development.

It looks like an amazing exhibition, well worth a visit. If any of you live nearby, please come and say hello!

Hey Mr Postman

It’s always a thrill when a large package is delivered, is it books? Paper? Models? An unexpected gift arrived recently from Paula Quiñónez, who spent a short time with us in 2012 when she was in the UK. Inside, a lovely 2 piece gift box with a beautiful crane inside.

Thanks Paula!

Flying business card models needed

business card plane

I’m on the hunt for designs using US business card/s (3.5″ x 2″) that fly in some form (ideally planes, but also spins, flips, glides etc). Glue is out, but small cuts *may* be acceptable (I’ll need to check with the publishers).

This will (hopefully) be the follow-up to a book coming out soon on office Origami using business cards.

I’m well aware there are very few (if any) existing designs and I’m coming up witb many myself (one shown here), but it’s always nice to feature the work of others in a book. Have a go!

Angel Origami spreads its wings!

Within a few months of release, the book has been translated into French (pointed out to me by my very own origami angel, Michel Grand, who also has a fine design in the book), Hungarian, Finnish and Portuguese!

Model & image database

my booksMy quest to have a complete database of books I’ve published continues at a moderate pace. You can also see a subset of designs I’ve created. If you have any photos that are missing, or better than those on display, please send them across!

Ori pour des Anges…

angell origami French editionWithin a few months of release, the book has been translated into French, pointed out to me by my very own origami angel, Michel Grand, who also has a fine design in the book. Sadly and somewhat unfairly, I get no extra payment for overseas translations.

Zut alors!

An Elephantine Challenge!

My good friend Himanshu Agrawal was invited by an Indian educational institute to fold 2 large models, one of which was this elephant of mine (read the history of this design). It is folded from a 42 foot (12.8 meters) square, with the final height being 13 feet (3.96 meters). He made this model single-handedly, which is an amazing achievement!

Horses for Compos

Inspired by a facebook competition suggested by Rikki Donachie, I’ve come up with this “Swimming Horse”, inspired by my guru Kunihiko Kasahara
