Xmas Balls

From time to time, videos of my designs appear on youtub. Some ask for permission in advance, most (like this one) don’t. There’s not a lot to be done, without wasting time and energy.

However, this is a pretty festive rendition of my A4 rhombic unit, so I hope you will have a go if it’s new to you.

Then, in the words of the legendary John Boy Walton, you can hang Santa by the balls on the Christmas tree…

Something fishy here!

Paul Jackson & myself, looking hot ;)Paul Jackson has pointed out (very amicably) that I’ve managed to recreate a design of his from 30 years ago, to wit, the fish of recent posts. This was entirely coincidental, since I’ve never seen his original, but I apologise for not being aware of such a great design.

I usually feel a small, warm glow when I discover I’ve independently discovered a design alongside a top quality designer, it shows me we have a common connection somehow.

Here’s a lovely (vintage) shot of Paul and myself, looking very “Yorkshire” ;)

Star Talers Ball by Angelika Schwengers

I met Angelika Schwengers at the recent Didactics convention and she showed me her development of a partly-traditional model, I loved it & offered to make diagrams, so here they are, a perfect model for any Christmas Tree  ;)

Guitar Hero

axe heroI used to play in a band with a guy called Richard, who quit to focus on a new music shop business. A few years later, the business has grown (with his partner James) into the best guitar shop – www.richtonemusic.co.uk - for a long, long way!

They are both strangely fascinated by my work, so I made something to go on their Christmas tree this year, an Elias figure sporting a Gibson Flying V guitar (Richard’s favourite model).

I’ll take a photo hen he is hung by the balls on the tree ;)

Fishy Folds

My Facebook friends have started a series of photos featuring my fish, trouble is, after 6 or so fishes, everyone is confused and the series is expanding sideways ;)

Dadaktiks time!

didak1November is always a happy month, since the annual International Convention for Didactics of Paperfolding for Educators takes place. It has run every year since 2006, organised by a voluntary team of teachers at Freiburg im Breisgau (Germany). The idea of this non-profit event is to develop and record the best modern methods of teaching origami.

I’m flying out on Thursday ;)

Easy Origami Magazine

easy origamiOver the past few months, I’ve been involved with the editor who has produce the UK’s first ever commercial origami magazine, out now, called “Easy Origami”. They have kindly used some models from my books and I’ve written a page of introductory material.

There is mention of the BOS and an interview with Michael Trew, so it should provide a welcome boost to origami in the UK.

The magazine is colourful and unashamedly aimed at “crafters”, perhaps no bad thing if its to be a commercial success!

There are some sample pages on this site.
