Happy Hanukkah

I know I said I was on a short blogcation, but last night was the first night of Hanukkah, and I wanted to share this.

And, my favorite Hanukkah-themed song

Don’t let the light go out! Let Justice Prevail.

(And if you want to give me a present, I wouldn’t mind you pre-ordering In the Crossfire. Or buying any of my books. Or leaving a review. Or sharing that you liked it on any social media platform. You get the idea, right?)

The post Happy Hanukkah appeared first on Terry Odell.

Turkey Tips

Turket Tip Turkey Tips

Here’s a turkey cooking tip from my chef brother. We’ve been using it for decades.

Preheat your oven to 450 (425 if your bird is under 12 pounds). Put your prepared turkey in the oven for 30 minutes at that temperature. After 30 minutes, lower the temperature to 350 (325). Repeat every 30 minutes. (You weren’t going anywhere, were you?). This moves the juices up and down through the breast meat.

Hint: put a couple of inches of water into the roasting pan, because the juices are stayi...

A Thanksgiving Recipe

A Thanksgiving Recipe

Since Thanksgiving is coming soon, I thought I’d re-share my family’s favorite dressing recipe, Curried Fruit Bread Dressing. I found in in a magazine decades ago, and it was stuffing for a goose, but it looked good, so I made it, and the family has been insisting on it ever since. (It used to be called “Stuffing” but since it’s no longer considered ‘safe’ to cook a stuffed bird, I’ve changed the name to dressing.) I know that when the kids were little, if ever I cooked any...

Writing – the Other Side of the Curtain

Writing – the Other Side of the Curtain

In the Crosshairs, Terry Odell

I’ve finished my draft of In the Crosshairs. I’m still giving it another read-through to smooth and tighten. And hunt for typos. That, to me, is all part of the writing process. But, as an indie author, there’s a LOT more to deal with.

First, there’s getting the book uploaded to the sales channels for preorder. For me, that’s five of them. And, just to keep things interesting, they’re all a little bit different, both in what they want and where in the pro...

Food, Glorious Food

CroatiaOne thing I especially enjoy when traveling—okay, anytime, but especially when traveling—is trying new and local foods. Breakfasts and lunches were provided at our hotels and on the yacht. Breakfasts were typical European fare. Meats, cheeses, pastries, eggs cooked to order, assorted breads and rolls, as well as cereal, fruit, yogurt, etc. Not as lavish as the hotels we stayed in before and afte...

My Croatia Trip, Part 7

Part 1. Part 2. Part 3. Part 4. Part 5. Part 6.

Dubrovnik

CroatiaOur official tour ended up in Dubrovnik. Six of us had opted to stay an extra day, so we had plenty of time to explore, both with the tour and on our own. A bus brought us to our hotel, which was within walking distance of the old city, so we wandered around since our rooms wouldn’t be ready for some time.
