Friday Fun

I’ve been busy getting out my newsletter, getting ARCs to my Read and Review Team, and doing the all-important last editing pass on the print proof of the book. A few grins (I hope) are in order.

Happy Friday

Hello 2022

Hello, 2022.

2022Most of us, I think, are tiptoeing into the new year, not sure what it will bring. Yet we continue to think of any new year as bringing new beginnings. Fresh starts. We all enter a new year filled with hope and promises to make it better than the last one. We’re definitely all hoping for that!

Many of us optimistically make a list of resolutions. I gave up that practice long ago (although I occasionally make them for the Hubster—less chance of me breaking them that way). What I’ve l...

Good-bye 2021

Good-bye 2021

Door to 2022It’s been a year highly influenced by the pandemic everyone thought would be over. I’m sure there are a few authors who are wishing they hadn’t jumped the gun and written books set in the here and now referring to the pandemic as a thing of the past. Current research indicates it’s going to be with us for some time.

My choice as an author was to leave the pandemic out of my stories. They’re fiction. I get to make stuff up, and if it means I’m leaving out Covid references, so be it....

Do What You’re Good At

Do What You’re Good At

do what you're good at Image by mohamed Hassan from Pixabay

A follow-up to Monday’s post about my strained relationship with technology. I’ve long been a proponent of advice I received at a conference long ago (and have probable mentioned it here a few times, too.)

Do what you’re good at; do what you love. Hire out the rest.

Given everything’s still in holiday mode, and we’re in that limbo period between Christmas and New Year, I thought I’d try something I neither love nor am good at (other th...

Technology Frustrations

Technology Frustrations

TechnologyI hope everyone enjoyed whatever holiday they might celebrate at this time of year. In a week, we’ll be into 2022, and I can only hope that it’s better than its predecessors.

Technology and I have never gotten along well. I learn what I need for whatever it is I have to do. I still haven’t figured out how to connect Alexa to the new (2 years old now) television so I can ask her to turn it on. Not a major issue unless the remote has gone into hiding.

But it’s the things th...

A Very Merry Christmas

Once again, I’m sharing our family’s Christmas tradition—Chinese food for dinner. Last year it was takeout. We haven’t decided whether we’ll do that again. Omicron seems determined to have it’s way with people, and since we have an international trip planned next year, we need to take extra precautions.

Half-Price e-Books, Free Audiobooks

GiftsTis the giving season.

Every year, Smashwords lets authors discount their books without having to jump through any hoops. Being lazy, and it being the holiday season, I clicked the 50% off column so all my books are discounted to half price. This sale runs through the end of the year, so if you’re looking to fill your e-readers, now’s a good time. There will be a lot of discounts, and I’d love it if you’d give some of my books a try.

Here’s the link to my Smashwords page.

I have more codes for f...

Reviewers Wanted

Read and Review

In the CrosshairsReader reviews are critical for indie authors. More reviews mean the Amazon algorithm bots will make your book more discoverable, and being discovered is a huge thing for authors, especially indie authors. People can’t buy/read your books if they can’t find them.

To that end, I’m putting together a “Read and Review” team. Do you like to read mysteries, romances, or their combination: romantic suspense? Are you willing to leave reviews? Then this team is for you.

You’re too busy, ...

Sneak Peek – In the Crosshairs

In the Crosshairs by Terry OdellI’ve been busy working on edits all week. Not much time for anything else, so today, I’m offering a  sneak peek from In the Crosshairs. It’s a scene where Kiera and Frank go to a local craft market, hoping to get a lead on the person responsible for stampeding Derek’s cattle.

Kiera sensed Frank’s impatience as they worked their way from table to table. Guys didn’t shop, they bought, but she was establishing their cover. And he was playing his role of bored companion, whether he knew it or not, p...
