What’s Cooking Wednesday — Pumpkin Biscuits

I hope all my readers on the East coast are safe. I had no problems getting out of New York on Sunday, but mine was one of the last flights out of the Westchester Airport. I’m back up on my mountain, and our weather up here is delightful. Cold, but above freezing by mid-morning, and no snow yet. Since it’s Halloween, I figured something using pumpkin would be appropriate. These are drop biscuits, because I’m lazy and it’s easier than rolling them out and making a mess. Plus, it’s a sticky, mo...

Walking Among History’s Ghosts

Today I welcome Velda Brotherton to Terry’s Place. She’s been a writer for half of her life, and that’s more years than she cares to discuss. While researching her historical romances, she literally walks among the ghosts who lived so long-ago. She’ll share some of her experiences.

WPA #9 — Bioterrorism

[image error]Looking for some scary ways to kill people (or cities, or countries?) Denene Lofland presented a fascinating hour on bioterrorism. For thriller writers, I’m sure it was a gold mine.

Bioterrorism is defined as the “unlawful use, or threatened use, of microorganisms or toxins derived from living organisms, to produce death or disease in humans, animals, or plants.” What bioterrorists are really trying to do is create fear.

Bioterrorist attacks can be Overt—with immediate impact, but early recogni...

Friday Field Trip — Rocky Mountain National Park

A few weeks ago, Jason led a group of photographers to Rocky Mountain National Park. Hubster was one of the participants, and both are sharing photos this week.

Author Fest 2 — Why Write?

Thanks to the marvels of Cyberspace, I’m posting this from Colorado although I’ll be in New York when you read it. Another keynote speaker at Author Fest was Stephen Graham Jones. He spoke of being interviewed by a sports journal, and they asked him why he writes. I think his answer sums it up perfectly, so I’m not going to add anything more. Please take a moment to go to this site and read it.

What’s Cooking Wednesday — Cranberry Orange Nut Bread

[image error]I’m winging it across the country to the NINC conference in White Plains, NY. While I’m gone, here’s another holiday recipe. Like last week’s pumpkin loaf, this also freezes well.I found this recipe on a bag of cranberries years ago.

The Magic of Endeavour

Today I welcome Phoebe Conn to Terry’s Place. Phoebe is a New York Times bestselling author who adores romance. She writes adventure-laced historicals, futuristic books with heroines adept at space travel and contemporary romances with a touch of suspense.

I love to read and belong to three monthly book clubs. Thursday’s group loves mysteries and avoids non-fiction. Monday’s tends to choose what is referred to as Women’s Fiction. The Sunday group picks far more challenging fiction and non-fict...

Edits vs Revisions

What I’m reading: Deadly Bones (for edits); Spinning, by Michael Baron (Nook)

[image error]I’ve been eyeball deep in edits and revisions for DEADLY BONES. My editor returned my manuscript on Thursday, dripping red Track Changes notations and comments. Because I’m working against a tight deadline, plus I’m getting ready to go to the NINC conference on Wednesday, this will be short.

I’ve worked with this editor on four books, and we both understand that it’s my name on the book, and I’m I I’m not obligated to...

A short while back, Mark Danielson talked about Why Texas? on this blog. Today, he’s sharing some of his pictures, most of which he took on a recent trip to Fort Worth. (This first one’s from Galveston, though.)
