What is the strangest thing you’ve ever done in the name of research?
When I was researching for my first novel, The Gate House, in the city of Lincoln in the UK, I had the opportunity to go on a roof tour of Lincoln Cathedral. We walked on catwalks between the lead roof and the vaulting visitors see from the cathedral floor. The vau...

If They Buy the Premise, Part 2
…They’ll Buy the Bit.
I’m continuing my posts about foreshadowing at the Kobo Writing Life blog. If you missed part 1, you can find it here.
And, if you haven’t already seen my post about donating to the National MS Society, I hope you’ll take a minute to check it out. I’d love to write them a big check — and it can be even bigger because I’ll add $1 for every copy of Pine Hills Police sold through December 31st. What’s Cooking Wednesday — Corn Chowder
Every month, Feebie gets a “Bark Box” filled with toys and treats. In last month’s box, she got a squeaky-crackly ear of corn, and the label included a recipe for corn chowder (for human consumption only). What’s the strangest thing you’ve ever done in the name of research?
I happened on my protagonist’s profession quite by accident, in a microbrewery in Upstate New York. While on the brewery tour, the guide showed us the fermenting room which housed an open fermenting tank, and told us we were not allowed in there because the waste product of fermentation is car...
