In The Interview Room – Sylvie Grayson

Sylvia GraysonToday I welcome Sylvie Grayson to Terry’s Place. Sylvie loves to write romantic suspense in both contemporary and sci-fi/fantasy.

What’s your biggest distraction when you should be writing?
Life. It sounds silly, but work, family, emergencies all add up to a lot of interruptions.

Plotter or Pantser?
I thought I was a plotter early in my career, and set out to organize my first books with notes, a bulletin board full of cards, spreadsheets of characters. The result was a deepfreeze. I couldn’t...

Getting Your Ebook Out There – Part 6 – Kobo

I’m finishing up my series on tips for publishing to the various Ebook sales channels today with Kobo. Like all the other channels, you create an account. For Kobo, it’s Kobo Writing Life. From there, you can upload your books, and the process is straightforward.
Kobo project page
Kobo accepts doc files, but I found their output is clunky. Their policy of using page breaks instead of section breaks is an easy find/replace, but their conversion guidelines also says use manual line breaks, not paragraph returns...

Countdown to In Deep Trouble – 3

Getting Closer! Have you reserved your copy yet?

In Deep Trouble Countdown Another snippet for you:

After washing his hands, he opened the door to the kitchen. Derek’s voice, muffled by the sounds of the machines, halted Bryce’s quest for something to drink.

Derek must have noticed him open the door, and waved him in. “Bryce. Come join us.”

Us. A glimpse of reddish hair told Bryce Grady was there, too. Bryce detoured by the coffee pot—a discussion with the boss and the new kid required more than lemonade. He set the m...

Getting Your Ebook Out There – Part 5 – Nook

Nook LogoSince I didn’t have any new pictures, I’m continuing my series of tips for publishing your Ebooks. You can catch up on the previous posts:

Part 1 Part 2 Part 3 Part 4

Publishing directly to Barnes & Noble for the Nook is easy. I use the file I’ve created with specific links to my other Nook books in my “more by the author” section. There are a few times I’ve chosen to use Draft2Digital to put my books in the Nook store, and I’ll go into that later.

To upload your book to the Nook store, you n...

Openings for Guest Interviews

guest bookI’m once again opening Terry’s Place to guests. Dates are Jun – Sept. Read on for details.

If you’re not familiar with my guest policies (and you should be if you want to have your day here), in a nutshell, these are INTERVIEWS. I will send you a list of questions, and you choose 10 to answer. It’s not a place to tout your book, but I will allow a SHORT blurb. There are hundreds of blogs where you can do your book promotion, but this isn’t one of them. Save us both time and search on Intervi...

In the Interview Room – Jennifer Kincheloe

Jennifer KincheloeToday I welcome Jennifer Kincheloe to Terry’s Place. Jennifer is the author of The Secret Life Of Anna Blanc, winner of the Colorado Gold award for mystery, and a finalist for the Lefty Award for Historical Mystery.

What’s your biggest distraction when you should be writing?
Ugh. Facebook. I love interacting on-line.

What’s the strangest thing you’ve ever done in the name of research?
Strange in a nerdy sense. I obtained a digital map of 1909 Los Angeles from the Library of Congress and blew...

Getting Your Ebook Out there – Part 4 – Draft2Digital

Draft 2 Digital logoContinuing my series on formatting, and using an aggregator. To catch up, here are links to the first 3 posts: Part 1 Part 2 Part 3. Today it’s Draft2Digital

Draft2Digital is relatively new, and one of the big pluses for them is their customer service. You can call them and talk to a real person. They want Word docs, and their conversion software does a great job. They also let you “own” the epub version of the book, so if you want to send out a review copy, you have rights to the file. If yo...
