What’s Cooking Wednesday – Pasta with Shrimp and Greens

I was intrigued by cooking the greens right along with the pasta, so I gave this Food Network Magazine recipe a try. Hubster declared it a keeper. My variations noted in the recipe.

Angel Hair Pasta with Shrimp and Greens

Angel Hair Pasta with Shrimp and GreensIngredients:
8 oz angel hair pasta
8 c chopped mixed “hardy” greens such as Kale, chard, escarole, spinach. I found a bag of these types already mixed in the produce section.
1 pound medium shrimp, peeled and deveined (I had frozen on hand)
t red pepper flakes
S&P
3 T olive...

In the Interview Room – Trevann Rogers

Today I welcome Trevann Rogers to Terry’s Place. Trevann is the author of House of the Rising Son.

What’s your biggest distraction when you should be writing?
That would be a toss up between two elderly dogs that seem to need constant attention and phone calls from elderly family and friends that I am afraid not to answer. Once I’m on the phone that is often the end of my writing energy and time.

What is the strangest thing you have ever done in the name of research?
I write about incubi rock...

Dealing With Beta Reader Feedback

Thumbs Up, Thumbs DownI’ve been hearing from my beta readers, and my critique partners are also finishing their passes through my manuscript. Overall, things have been positive, but it’s still a first draft, and I know this isn’t ready for my editor yet.

I sent the manuscript to 8 beta readers, plus my critique partners have been weighing in since the beginning. I wasn’t looking for proofreaders at this stage. Rather, this was what I asked them to look at.

Does the story hold your interest?
Do you connect with th...

Friday Field Trip – Fireworks

Jason was up to his usual, taking pictures again. These are shots from a fireworks display in Colorado Springs. If you’re interested in learning more about how to take pictures of fireworks, he has an article about it here.

Six Reasons I Won’t Love Your Book

frowny-face-heart

Disclaimer: Note the title of this post says “I” won’t love your book. I’m ONE reader with my own personal preferences, and that’s what I’m sharing here today.

I finished a book by an award winning, best-selling author. I expected to enjoy it. I wanted to enjoy it—after all, who wants to read a book they don’t like? Lots of people enjoyed it. In fact, it won 3 “major” awards.

But I couldn’t excited about it. I finished it, but there was no spark. No desire to read the next one. As an author,...

What’s Cooking Wednesday – Vietnamese Grilled Salmon

Hubster made the recipe from the Food Network Magazine, with only a few switches.

Vietnamese Grilled Salmon

Ingredients:
For the Salmon marinade:
2 T oil + more for brushing (recipe called for grapeseed, but Hubster used avocado oil, which is supposed to have a much higher smoking point)
1 T grated ginger
2 cloves garlic, minced
1 small shallot, minced (Hubster used onion, which is what we had on hand)
1 stalk lemongrass, finely chopped
juice of 2 limes
1 T fish sauce
Salt
2 sides salmon, 1.5...

In the Interview Room – Sue Star

Today I welcome Sue Star to Terry’s Place. She is the author of the Nell Letterly mystery series set in Boulder, Colorado.

What’s your biggest distraction when you should be writing?
My paints. When I figured out that talent isn’t necessary to enjoy painting, I became dangerous with a paintbrush. Now it’s all I want to do!

What’s the strangest thing you’ve ever done in the name of research?
Buying a narrowboat in England. Hubby and I are learning how to live in its 85 square feet and how to n...
