(Pre)Order My Sketches Online. New System.

You can order a sketch from me online now. It's easy. Simply go to the StrangersInParadise.com home page and you'll see an panel to click. You can have the sketch shipped to you or pick it up personally at one of my upcoming convention appearances; a list is there to choose from. I won't be sketching at the conventions themselves anymore, because there is never time to sit down and do so. And, honestly, I'd rather stay on my feet and talk to people who took the trouble to stop by and visit. Besides, I sketch better in the studio anyway—headphones, zoning out, no interruptions, that kind of thing.

I tested this new system out in a small way for C2E2 and Megacon, and it worked out nicely. So this is the official announcement. You want a sketch? No problem. Order it now, pick it up at the next show, no waiting. Or just have it mailed. Prices are $150 for 1 character, $250 for 2 characters… in pencil on 9 x 12 bristol. If you want more than that, you have to email the Lovely Robyn and place a custom order. Mm hmm, I said custom… as in, you're special.

The only request I won't draw is personal portraits, like you or loved ones. I prefer to stay in the world of fiction, please.

And the NEW series is…

Rachel Beck wakes on damp, soft dirt. Sitting up, she sees a foot sticking up from the ground in front of her. She is sitting on somebody. She is sitting on a shallow grave. Rolling onto her knees she claws the dirt away. It is the body of a woman much like her. The clothes are like hers. The face… it's her. Dead.

This is the beginning of my new series, RACHEL RISING.

I've been a life long fan of horror stories. Not the slasher type, but the scary kind. The kind that gives you a chill on a hot night. I wrote my first short story at age 11, and it was a horror story. With two series in different genres behind me, I think I'm finally ready to go back to my first love and have fun with it.

RACHEL RISING will be an ongoing series. I have a strong cast of new characters that live in Rachel's town and I think you're going to get a kick out of meeting them. My stories come from scenes in my head, like a movie. When I can picture scenes I've never seen before in any medium, I get very excited. That's how STRANGERS IN PARADISE and ECHO began, and that's what happened with this new story. When I thought about ideas for the next series, this is the story that kept me up at night. The scenes in my head are incredible, and I can't wait to get started!

Of course, there is the not too small matter of one last issue to go in ECHO—issue #30. That final issue will ship in April.

RACHEL RISING #1 will be in stores this July. You heard it here first. Please spread the word for me. I think this is going to be a blast!

Tuscon Festival of Books

Off to Arizona this afternoon for the Tuscon Festival of Books. Tomorrow I will be on two panels:

Building Comics from the Ground Up

Panel / Sun 10:00 AM – 11:00 AM

Integrated Learning Center – Room 140

Modern Heroes/Heroines in Science Fiction and Fantasy

Panel / Sun 11:30 AM – 12:30 PM

Integrated Learning Center – Room 140

It's funny how perfect the timing is for this, since I just finished a sci-fi fantasy story and I'm in the process of building my next series (the 3rd) from the ground up. You'd think I might have something to say on the subjects. We'll see.

This trip is unique because I've never been to Arizona for a book event before. I'm really looking forward to it. If you're attending the festival, stop by and say hello.

SiP sequel vs ECHO sequel vs New Series… Decision This Week

FYI: I finished Echo #29 early this morning and sent it to Brenner the printer. After a few hours of what I would describe as a brief coma, because it was way too deep to be called sleep, I woke and read the print out of the story. And I have to say, I like it! That's good, since it took me five weeks to make it.

Look for this chilly cover in a couple of weeks at your beloved comic book store.

SiP sequel vs ECHO sequel vs New Series… Decision This Week

With Echo ending next issue, I have been trying to decide what to do for the next series. If I don't blow up the world in Echo 30, I could easily write a sequel but, come on, how maw many chances do you get to blow up the world? Awfully tempting… and I'm weak, WEAK, I tell you.

A couple of weeks ago, just for fun, I posted this question on Twitter and Facebook: What would you choose: a sequel to SiP or a sequel to Echo?

The response was terrific because Echo has an enthusiastic following and it has earned a place in the hearts of SiP readers. Many readers answered both or some sort of crossover, but the overwhelming majority voted for SiP, with the caveat that I not ruin the Happily Ever After ending to the previous series. This last point was hugely important to voters… Don't screw with Francine & Katchoo's happiness! And I couldn't agree more. We all have way too much time invested in that, don't we? Still, the majority of SiP voters said they were suffering from "Katchoo withdrawal".

This doesn't mean I will make a sequel to SiP. No promises. Just… I have ideas. That being said, I also have some kick-ass NEW characters and story ideas just waiting for their chance to join the literary race. They are very insistent, some of them are VERY cute, and I am listening.

So… I have to solicit the new series with Diamond on Thursday. I have until then to make up my mind. Think about me, send good vibrations and whatever floats your protons this way. When I've made the decision, you will hear it here first!

Send bribes to me c/o Arkham Asylum, Gotham City. Don't send chocolate, the guards eat it.

The Digital Beast & more new stuff

My State of the Union address posts today on BrokenFrontier.com and I offer the most rational explanation yet of our new, all-powerful, lord and master, Digital.

RT Book Reviews is posting a nice article on my books today. [image error]

Last weekend I was in Dallas to attend a screening of Todd Kent's comics documentary, Comic Book Literacy. The video as wonderful insights into comics by creators such as Art Spiegleman and Paul Dini.  After the screening before a room full of school kids—which took place at the Dallas Museum of Art and I like that connection—there was a Q&A. Kent posted part of that session on YouTube. About 6 minutes in, everybody strips to their socks and dances, so skip that part if you're squeamish.
