Connecting with Community in 21st C: Nature

At Findhorn Ecovillage we also have deep connections with non-human communities in our eco–region – like the Communities of Nature – it is not just humans talking to Nature – but Nature talks to us too. Dorothy MacLean was our Founder who established links with the Nature Devas. And her influence lives on. I recently have been communicating with the trees around our new Sanctuary – 4 Scottish Pines who agreed to release themselves to become part of the New Sanctuary – they confided they had been meditating with us for 25 years and would like to continue.
And just last week with an Apple Tree who had been grafted as a way to continue a life that couldn’t accommodate the new design. But the Life Force in that tree was so strong it communicated to an ex-Findhornian now living in Mauritius who reached out to me to enable the life force to continue by bringing together the whole village to transplant the tree. We brought together the Hinterland Trust Leader Jonathan Caddy (son of the Founders of FF), tractor, trailer, work party, the whole Park Garden Team, Volunteers, gardeners to prepare the new site, a new garden looking for fruit trees – plus the families and children the tree wanted to be with. We did this all on Valentine’s Day – so the tree is named Valentine now.

Connecting with Community in 21st C: Practise

Findhorn website says from Personal to Planetary Change – so our practices are maturing from the local to the global. One practise I have initiated is the Islands of Calm Meditation – each Saturday. It was started to draw from the strength of the Subtle Realms to help us through the pandemic and lockdown isolation.
The Practise starts with a sharing (of turbulence and/or calm), Guided meditation embodying the qualities of spirit, culture, policy – silence for deep inner listening – and concludes with sharing and checkout of the essence of calm.
This is now growing into Global Cities/Towns/Villages of Calm and Peace on Earth Zones.
Another example is our annual Community Game of Transformation – where we choose individual angels and an Angel for the Community for the next year. This is a strength and reminder that Findhorn spirituality, society and policy are intertwined and that we are inter and intra-connected as a community.
From an Integral City perspective the social connections in our community arise from the interconnection of All for All. It is represented in our GPS – where inner, outer, culture, systems tetra-arise with strategic intelligences and contexting intelligences – all powered by the Evolutionary intelligence that pulses from the centre.

Connecting with Community in 21C: Culture

Over the last year in the Ecovillage Findhorn we have had to come to terms with the changing realities of the Findhorn Foundation (FF). Because of the pandemic and the lockdowns that prevented the delivery of FF’s courses, FF released 50% of its staff. We also suffered the arson and loss of 2 key buildings – the Sanctuary and Community Centre.
As a result FF is seeking to focus on Spiritual Education as it reinvents itself – and as a consequence also release selected assets of land and buildings.
This is opening up opportunities to change how we own, steward and finance key resources in our community.
In this process we are learning how to develop a new Culture of the Commons. We are learning about the 4 types of commons (Built Amenities, Conservation Lands, Green Spaces, Infrastructure) and the 8 principles developed by Elinor Ostrom from her research on cultures who were successful at operating Commons:
Shared identity and purpose Equitable distribution of contributions and benefits Fair and inclusive decision-making Monitoring of agreed behaviours Graduated responding to helpful and unhelpful behaviour Fast and fair conflict resolution Authority to self-govern (according to principles 1-6 Collaborative relations with other groups (using principles 1-7We are connecting in new ways in the community as we research the history of our Commons, Community Organizations and how we steward resources (sharing a report of 12 pages). On February 20, 2023, we gathered 150 people in person and 60 people online, to inquire what Commons mean to us (asking generative questions about our high vision, how we can contribute/participate and finance/resource our recalibrated Commons).
As we are refining our culture of community I notice in Integral City terms engaging through 4 + 1 Voices.
In the Commons meeting we brought together our 4+1 Voices of Resident/Citizens, Civic Managers, Business Innovators and 3rd Sector.

Connecting with Community in 21C: Living

Findhorn is a community that embraces living within both Spiritual and Ecological values.
Spiritually and ecologically our community emerges from the 3 core Principles.
Deep Inner Listening – a spiritual /social/ policy calling.Co-Creating with Intelligences of Nature – a social/ spiritual/ policy calling.Working as Love in Action – a policy/ spiritual /social CallingEach of these is kind of holographic of the other.
When I parse these principles into the Integral City Gaia’s Code of Care, I see the DNA for living:
Care for Self, so we Care for each Other, so together we care for Place and altogether we Care for Planet. We practise these principles and codes through singing Taizé together – both in-person as before pandemic and after on Zoom – and now both.
When we couldn’t eat together we created the Zrunch and now Phrunch – finding a way to connect to each other even though we couldn’t eat together as when we joined a table at our Community Centre.

Connecting with Community in 21st C: Interests

There are many interests that have and can attract people to The Park Ecovillage (TPE) Findhorn – sacred dance, animal whispering, Taizé, The Game of Transformation, or even Permaculture and Ecovillage Design and how to become CN2030.
Until the pandemic struck it was easy to sign up for courses, programs, conferences and residences that offered any and all of these interests. People came from around the world, connecting through their interest with each other. From these interests other enterprises emerged like GEN, Gaia Education and Game of Transformation, Facilitator training.
When lockdown happened the Findhorn Foundation and the community of Findhorn had to reinvent ourselves. We did this by leaning into our capacity for connecting through communities of interest. In the Park the community co-created Covid Action Group, we closed down f2f courses and slowly started online courses – Creating Findhorn Where You Are.
And although we took a Carbon Neutral research holiday for 2 years, as soon as we could collect data in 2022, we started our research again. We even just got our Collaboration Circle (of Findhorn Ecovillage organizations) to support our intention to become Carbon Neutral by 2030. From our Integral City 5 Maps we can track the resonance, coherence and emergence of these many interests.

Connecting Integrally to Community in the 21C: Spiritually, Socially, Politically

We have always believed “If you want to improve the health of a system connect it to more of itself.” This session will disclose the infinite but strategic ways you can nurture communities in the 21st century to connect to more of themselves.
Connecting Communities has been central to the evolutionary impulses that created Integral City Meshworks and is now growing Living Cities: Earth.
From the start we defined community as “a journey to wholeness for a group of people.”
In the last 2 decades our research has explored how to serve and influence communities of interest, communities of culture, communities of living, communities of practice and communities of Nature – online, in ecovillages and in cities and their ecoregions.
Let me share some examples of these community emergences from the Findhorn Ecovillage where I live.

Archipelagos of Calm
Islands of Calm Meditations, on Saturday mornings started on Zoom and continue on Zoom so that we can ripple calm out from Findhorn across the world every week.

From the original disturbance to our systems starting with Covid threats and lockdown isolations, we have become aware how life conditions in the world can impact us as close as the family we live with or friends we walk with or workers we create with. Or change that ripples through our communities, hedgerows, food gardens or tree guardians. Or we can feel the trauma of wars far away or earthquakes across the world. Or climate-change weather turning places we know into flood zones, burning infernos or tornado alleys.
David Spangler proposed that finding an Island of Calm in ourselves, creates the capacity to influence 1000 other people. With the challenges we face in such a turbulent world we have asked ourselves – is this practice what the world still needs? And, in true Findhornian fashion, we found instruction from Eileen that assures us our practice has merit. Eileen says:
There is a tremendous amount you can do to help [the world] by the work you do on the inner in radiating Love and Light … this work which is being done on the inner is simply tremendous. lt is holding the whole world in balance, so never cease, never let up in any way but carry on faithfully. (Eileen’s Guidance, Dec. 30)
So, – no matter our time zones, challenges or opportunities, we have learned the value of co-creating Islands of Calm with others – not only humans – but with Allies from the subtle realms. We feel the comfort and strength of inviting in the Nature Spirits, the Sidhe, Beings from the Four Directions, Landscape Angels and Angels like Love, Grace, Peace and Compassion. With guidance we sit in stillness embodying the qualities we and our Allies bring to the Islands of Calm we nurture in ourselves and each other.
From the single Islands of Calm we started with in 2020, we feel now like we inhabit Archipelagos of Calm that reach out across our spheres of influence, and this week offered the calming essences of: mycelium of love, connection, fellow travellers, circles of care, coherence, awakening and gratitude. We invite you to join us on our Archipelagos of Calm, Saturday mornings on Zoom at 9am GMT. Just send me an email via Newsletter Contacts and I will send you the Zoom link.

Being in the World in 2023

If David had asked me about Being in the World in 2020 I would have had a health focus – being wary of the emerging covid19 – as I was about to depart for South Korea. But I wouldn’t have foreseen a declaration of a global pandemic.
For 2021 I might have speculated about the global economy which was reeling from the almost worldwide lockdowns. But I wouldn’t have foreseen the impact on Findhorn Ecovillage of 2 fires that destroyed our Sanctuary and Community Centre.
For 2022 I might have criticised the lack of commitment to COP 26 climate actions, but I would never have imagined Russia declaring war on Ukraine or the death of Queen Elizabeth.
So, I am naturally cautious to ponder what experiences might lie ahead in 2023. I am seeing such an urge to connect groups and communities across the world – through Community Action Networks, Bright Spots, and Living Cities: Earth. People are discovering connections that make a difference across the street, in their communities, around the world and deep in their souls.
Futurists- including city futurists like me, may predict 2023 through the Visible lenses of 6 Big Challenges–– Energy, Water, Climate, Food, Biogenetics and the Psycho-Cultural. Media headlines may translate these into dramas about inflation, energy, economics and unemployment – stoking fears of scarcity, trauma, unfair competition and lack.
Being in the World in 2023 – facing experiences that arise out of these challenges –leads us naturally to ask, how can we endure these tensions?
I suggest that Being in the World in 2023 – no matter how it turns out – will call forth Gaia’s Code of Care – for Self, Others, Places, Planet – what I call a Care-Ma Yoga practice.
Some of you may know that in mid-2022, I shared in the Rainbow Bridge how David curated the experience of Taizé on Zoom – inventing a form of Care-Ma Yoga.
Firstly, as our individual selfs sing on mute we are privileged to be our own unique version of any of the 4 harmonies – bass, tenor, alto, soprano.
Meanwhile we are conscious of singing with others as we see the entire gallery of global singers accompanying us.
Through our regular encounters we have become aware of the many individual Taizé Places – expanded out from Findhorn/Forres across the UK into Europe, Africa, Middle East, India, North and South America, Australia and Japan.
Through our reminders from Eileen’s Guidance at each session we attune to our local and planetary sacred realities as well as visible and invisible worlds.
Of course, David has encouraged interconnections, drawing out passions, performances and participation from all – and in so doing he has amplified a special form of musical globality.
So perhaps a generative way of Being in the World in 2023 is to become conscious of Being in 4 Worlds – that we live through every day of our lives – the Worlds of Self, Others, Place and Planet. And one way of doing this is to appreciate how our Taizé sacred songs support us in our practices.
Being in the world of self means I love and accept myself exactly as I am. I care to learn how to live wisely and well in all I do-be-relate and cocreate. Our Taizé is Celebrating Self Today with the songs of: “I am one with the Heart of the Mother” and “I am Alive” .
Being in the world of others means expanding my circle of compassion to care for others – family, friends, neighbours, co-workers. I love and accept all beings exactly as they are. In caring for others, I appreciate their gifts, talents and differences that make a difference. Our Taizé is Celebrating Others Today with the songs of: “Kindle a Flame” and “E Malama”.
Being in the world of place expands my circle of compassion to embrace my community, or town, village or city and appreciate the life conditions of geography, ecology, bioregion and built environment that supports 4 or more generations of humanity that co-exist in our places today. Our Taizé is Celebrating Place Today with the songs of: “Between Darkness & Light I Will Always Walk” and “Let Go Let Go, Surrender & Flow”.
Being in the world of planet awakens us to the beautiful living Earth that is our Mother and how all life has been evolved by her. When we honour our relationship to her life, it honours our ancestors and brings us deeply present to the science and spirituality of our Oneness. Our Taizé is Celebrating Planet Today with the songs of: “Let the Beauty We Love” and “If people lived their Lives as if it Were a Song”.
So Being in the World in 2023 has the promise from the start – January 1st today – of our Zoom Taizé generating Care-Ma Yoga – for the 4 voices of harmony from all the human habitats around the world.
Being in the World in 2023 can start and finish with a Care-Ma Yoga Taizé practice which is simply this:
Begin each day with Gaia’s Code of Care –
As you sound OMMM to yourself, ask: “how shall I care for myself, others, place, planet?
And at the end of each day with a closing OMMM of gratitude, Reflect on how you have cared for yourself, others, place and planet.”
May this CARE-MA Yoga become part of your Taizé practice – of Being Well in the World in 2023.~~~Click here to access Blog on How David Robinson Harmonized the Noosphere.Click here to access interview with David Robinson.

Reflective Organ Newsletter December Solstice 2022: Recalibrating (Re)connecting Transitioning

This newsletter is published quarterly using a cycle of perspectives on the Integral City viewed from: Planet, People, Place and Power. The theme of this issue is Power.
S p i r i t u a l E n e r gy a s a C o n t a i n e r
The spiritual qualities and cultures that are revealed in quadrants andlevels become integrated when we see the city is a container for spirituality (and therefore a boundary that contains the panoply of gods, goddesses and God that have emerged from various spiritual traditions). The difference between a container and a quality, is that the container is a holonic structure that holds qualities, elements, configurations and other wholes.
Spiritual containers in the city can be considered in three key scales
Self
Culture
Nature

Integral Cities Upshift: Recalibrating,(Re)Connecting,TransitioningI have been observing 2022 as the Year of Transition and the Year of (Re)Connection. But for cities it may well turn out to be the Year of Recalibrating – or at least the Year of the Eve of Recalibrating.
Recalibration is built into the fundamental Integral Intelligence – it occurs as the 4 quadrants upshift from one level of complexity to another.
Recalibration is necessary to consolidate and integrate our new learning – because we don’t just ascend a new step on the staircase of development and everything we have ever known stays the same.
Rather we must reinvent our operating system to benefit from our new learning. This is necessary for effective capacity building for Meshworking – the Intelligence that responds to life conditions by combining the most appropriate operating system with the most appropriate structures.
Recalibrating asks us to learn how to live at a new frequency of life. (Recalibrating is necessary as we traverse the Power scaffold from Power Over, Power With and Power As – whether that be for individuals or for organizations.) But when we do the work, we will be able to look in the mirror as an individual or look at the group or organization as a collective and see that we have responded to the change of life conditions that brought about the transition from one era or one epoch to another. We will see the path that Evolutionary Intelligence has taken.
So, when we look back at 2022 and recognize the transition points and pattern reconnections that have emerged, we may be able to recognize that our recalibrations were necessary and inevitable in the grand process of change. Recalibrating will open doors to Cities of Peace, to the Unitive Narrative and to Living Cities serving a Living Earth. (Read more here.)

In 2022, the unexpected return to war in Europe has been a shock of disconnection to generations of Europeans who had thought they would never again witness conflict at this scale on their landscape. The ripple effects of the invasion by Russia into Ukraine have upended energy markets, food distribution, manufacturing costs, quality and cost of living , climate change strategies, regenerative economies and probably most of all, mutual trust and respect between peoples. It has given licence to other rebels (like North Korea and Iran) to test the strength of moral constraints of a range of human ecosystems from COP26 and COP 27, to NATO, to the EU and to the United Nations.
As time moves us from 2022 to 2023 we feel the dissonance of our disconnections, while at the same time we sense a deep longing for the promise of coherence in new and re-connections (if not recalibrations).
For all the lessons of incoherence and uncertainty that Covid 19 has taught us – perhaps one of the most valuable lessons is to watch how the biosphere of the virus has transmuted and transformed to evolve new ways of connecting so that it can survive. Contagion itself has been modified so the severity of symptoms we experience is less, even as the propensity for spreading the virus widens and speeds up. These are hard lessons when viewed as biology through a micro-lens – but may be very fruitful lessons when viewed as metaphors through a macroscopic lens. How can we make peace contagious and even imagine Peace Rooms in our cities?
Does 2022 mark the year when we quietly admit that “something profound has to change?” Have we become ready enough to disconnect from life-destroying behaviours so that we can connect in new ways for actions that support Life, Aliveness and Evolution? (Read more here.)
***
Does 2022 mark a Time of Transition on an epoch scale? This year seems not just to be shifting through first order change.
This year seems to have all the indicators of second order change.
Are we living through not just a change of season but the transformation into a different era?
While the traditional media report an unremitting litany of change negatives, tragedies, undoings and threats – around the world clusters of humans (from small to medium to large groups) are experimenting with how to human well (better, best …) (see the list and click on what they are doing here).
In scattered seedbeds we are incubating whole new phases of becoming. We seem to be moving from inward-focusing- individual-thriving-beings to outward-focusing – if not outreaching – and collectively emerging swarms of intelligence.
Could this indicate we are maturing from the species stage of competition that brought us to the state, where we finally can open to stages of cooperation and collaboration because the challenges we have created for Earth, biodiversity, climate change, and pandemic have created sufficient dissonance in our life systems that our very survival is at stake?
Dare we recognize that life can be good, optimistic, and even hopeful?
It seems that the people who belong to these enabling practices – even movements – are beginning to notice that we are no longer practicing on our own. Other groups that we can see across the street, across town, in the same bioregion – and even on the other side of the world, resonate with what we are learning, how we are living, and where we are aiming to go.
Is it possible this is not a temporary transition – but one that is gathering enough energy, information and matter to contribute to a quantum shift?
Is our beloved Spaceship Earth – Gaia – waking us up with seeming disasters of climate change, pandemics and war – so that we realize that for the survival of humans and all life, we MUST change?
Is the Sacred Season 2022, the shift-space/time-wave for body, mind, heart and soul to build into a tsunami of epochal change? Are we ready to start the recalibrating learning journey for the next 100 years?
Living Cities: Earth – a Nascent Emergent City MycelliumIn 2022 we recognize the Collaboratory of Living Cities: Earth as it integrate leaders and institutions worldwide in a global initiative that serves cities through their 4 voices and future generations (unto the 7th). The LCE seed team (and growing core team) is facilitating and AQtivating an Overview Effect for all the energies and strategies regenerating Aliveness in cities and ecoregions.
LCE intends to bring a special wave of energy to growing an ecology of city associations that are using new media to share how cities thrive wholistically when connecting to the living, emergent mycellium of Caring for Planet/Place/People/Person.
As the nodes and connective strands in the network of Living Cities: Earth become visible to one another, LCE will make Living Cities the norm for children, families and all the 4 Voices of the city. LCE imagines that trauma and conflict can be resolved in Living City Peace Rooms and Fully Alive Regeneration Hubs.
Living Cities:Earth intends to meet people where they are at, to support humaning well in harmony with all Nature. The collaboratory begins with an Infograph that captures the people and places who sit in the grand question:
How can who, lead whom, to do what, with what group of people, where, for what purpose?Read more and view the Infographic here .
Integral City Meshworker of Year 2022: Jude CurrivanMeet Dr. Jude Currivan, Integral City Meshworker 2022.Dr. Jude Currivan is a cosmologist, planetary healer, futurist, author, co-founder of WholeWorld-View and member of the Evolutionary Leaders Circle .…
Jude calls us to recalibrate our very Aliveness. She proposes that we:
Think CosmicallyFeel GloballyAct Locally. With this injunction, we can safely say that Jude has gone beyond even meshworking, or meshweaving to “meshworlding” a full story of Conscious Evolution. In so doing she is birthing a whole new order of Meshworker of the Year. In her own words she has linked us up and lifted us up to mature our wholeworld-view of aliveness.
Jude’s insights impact every aspect of the Integral City Frameworks – from the Master Code of Care, 12 Intelligences, 5 Maps, 4 Voices, Biomimicry Fractal Patterns and Placecaring/Placemaking Principles.
Breathing Evolutionary Life into the Master Code of CareJude has demonstrated that all the qualities that human systems manifest at the scale of the human hive, can be traced to scientific evidence. Furthermore, with her initiatives of the unitive narrative and tracing the Story of Gaia as a Conscious Planet, she has demonstrated the “All Quadrant, All Levels” integral wholeness of meshworking at the largest scale imaginable. Jude has dared to bring together Evolutonary Leaders, a cluster at the United Nations, aligning thought leaders from both science and spirituality, at all scales from the individual, to groups, to places to the planet.
As Jude exhales her Big Breath from Consciousness she blesses us all with the energy of aliveness as our natural respiration and inspiration.
In recognition of her service to planetary evolution and aliveness, Integral City Meshworks is proud to award Dr. Jude Currivan with the honour of Meshworker of the Year 2022.
Book Preview: The Story of GaiaThe Story of Gaia provides the scientific and spiritual foundations to create a unitive narrative with which all human systems – including their habitats – can resonate. The value of this book is immense – explaining the evolutionary path of our multiple intelligences (as Integral City calls our GPS), our Integral City maps and the Master Code of Care that holographically nests our caring relationships for self, others, place and planet. Currivan’s explanations of genetic evolution may even point to the roots of the seeming universal patterns we have called the 4 Voices of the City (citizens, civic managers, business/innovators, civil society).
The Story of Gaia offers a foundation for appreciating how Gaia has evolved human systems to serve her evolutionary capacities – perhaps as James Lovelock suggested as Gaia’s Reflective Organs? If we truly appreciate the scientific evidence, gathered by Jude Currivan, we would do well to attune to each chapter as she invites us to do throughout the book. With such spiritual awareness we can never doubt the immensity of connections that interrelate humans to the wholeness all life. We have been in-forming for 14 billion years and all our relations (including our cities) will continue to evolve as new chapters to The Story of Gaia.
